Hajiya Ladidi looked at both her daughters with disbelief, she found what Sadiya said hard to believe.

"Halima what do you mean?" she asked for the fifth time.

"Umma I don't know what is so confusing about everything I've told you, she is not going back to that house and that's Final!"

"Who are you to make that decision? Sadiya we'll wait for your father to return, you can't just be spewing rubbish anyhow." Hajiya Ladidi folded her hands on her chest as she looked at her daughters.

Something must be wrong with their heads, she can't believe she was trying to separate the couple, the marriage was barely two years old, and she felt she must've failed as a mother if her daughter was leaving her husband, especially that soon.

"Umma there's nothing to wait for because Abba will agree with me, that I'm sure about."

The discussion was one-sided for Khadijah as she had to sit down through the one hour argument her mother and sister had when the latter's husband dropped them off, and even now no one was considering her.

Knowing that even if allowed to talk she knew she would have nothing to say was why she chose to be quiet, that and the fact that her face was sore from the multiple times she'd been hit that day, all she wanted to do was sleep.

She quietly stood up and made way to her old bedroom and laid on the bed, silently thanking God that her mother was a neat freak so it was clean, when and how she fell asleep was unknown to her because in less than five minutes and she was out cold.

"No! That will not happen, what is wrong with all of you? My daughter is not leaving her husband!"

Malam Sadeeq pinched the space between his eyes, a habit he'd adopted since he married Hajiya Ladidi, she was a handful.

He knew arguing with her was fruitless do. He let her rant, when she was done shouting or she got tired he would try to have the conversation again.

"Haba, mutane ba hankali, ta ya za ka biye ma yara, in basu da hankali mu Muna da shi."(people are senseless, how can you support these children? If they don't have sense, we do.)she huffed sitting back down.

Malam Sadeeq turned to his wife who kept huffed ever do often, it would take her a while to calm down so he went to pray Isha seeing it was time already, if she wasn't done with her huffing and puffing he would leave it until the next morning, by then hopefully she may give him a listening ear.

Khadijah had slept nicely the night before, not worrying or scared that Suleiman might enter the room anytime and hurt her. She couldn't face her father for many reasons so she stayed in her room most of time.

She'd eaten a few spoonfuls of her dinner, already used to eating so little, she knew Suleiman had messed her up so what's the reason of leaving since he had already scarred her for life.

Finally summoning a little courage, she left her room after praying subh to greet her father, she knew he was in the living room reciting the Quran since it was a little tradition of his.

"Abba, Ina kwana." (Good morning)

she said a little above a whisper, it was a surprise he heard.

He kept the Quran aside and answered her, asking how she slept and her health, Hajiya Ladidi told him she was sick.

They both stayed quiet for a few seconds before he cleared his throat and addressed her.

"Mamana" he called, since she was named after his mother, he always called her 'my mother' instead of her name.

"Nobody is going to force you to return to your husband's house, I'm telling you this so you don't feel pressurised by either your sister or mother, if your husband is not taking good care of you and you feel you can't stand it, you can come back home and we'll welcome you with open arms, but if it because of one of those unnecessary reasons girls these days force their spouses to buy them expensive things, but I know you're not materialistic, then I'm sorry but i don't see any reason that'll make you leave your marriage" he stopped to catch his breath.

"And I'll call your husband in today and have a talk with him, if he can't afford your medical bills, I can and I will pay for it"
He ended, then stood to leave but not before telling her to take good care of herself.

To say she was confused was an understatement, she had no idea what he meant by medical bills, sure Suleiman hated her going to the hospital, he hated her going out in general but that was just so that no one would see the scars and pry, not pondering over it for a while she went back to her room to continue sleeping, that was the most she had slept weeks.

By the time she woke up from her nap, she had already made her decision and only in her favor, it might be considered selfish but that was the one of the few times she was putting herself first in ages, with that on her mind she went to the kitchen to meet her mother.

Before she could bring up what was on her mind, Hajiya Ladidi sat her for down for a mother daughter talk.

There, she realised that it was stupid of her to think she could put herself first, no one cared about her and her feelings.
