*Hazel's Pov*

I flopped on my bed next to Honey while she flipped through an old magazine that my mom owned in the late 80s.

"The fashion from that era was just so eccentric! I'm glad people are bringing back some of the old trends from those times." Honey gazed dreamily at a page showcasing what was popular.

Meanwhile, Julia and Anikah were on my beanbag in the corner giggling at my baby photo album, and Ivy and Violet were trying to pick an outfit for my double date. "Heaven is a Place on Earth" by Belinda Carlisle was playing on Violet's speaker as we all did our thing.

"She should wear something cute and adorable. You know, it really is her style and it just fits her." Violet stated as she pulled out some overall shorts and a pink boxy crop top.

Ivy narrowed her eyes and nodded. "For once I actually agree with you. If she wants to impress and win back Asher-"

I lifted myself onto my elbows and cocked my eyebrow. "I'm not trying to impress Asher and he was never mine."

Ivy ignored me. "Then she has to be herself because that's what he seems to like. Which is good for you Hazel." She said turning to me. "You need to find a guy who likes you for who you are."

I flopped back on the bed. "I'm sure Caleb likes me for me."

Everyone stayed quiet and I knew what they were thinking.

"Anyways..." Ivy said turning back to Violet in the closet. "I agree with you, but I think she can do better than that. At least for a date." She turned back at me. "Where are you guys going?"

"We're going ice skating and then to Sally's. Pretty average date." I didn't know when Sally's became the go-to place, but at some point it did. Or maybe it always was.

Ivy grinned. "Okay, okay. So you can go for something wintery and cute. Or maybe, it doesn't even have to be that wintery, it just has to keep you warm."

I tilted my head to the side in confusion.

She worked like a ninja, pulling out clothes and matching them. She pulled out my multi-colored long sleeved turtle neck, cuffed mom jeans, raggedy converse, and oversized pink fluffy coat. She placed the items next to me on the bed and looked over then. She smiled. "Perfect."

~~~~~~~
I walked out of the bathroom with the outfit Ivy had chosen. I smiled brightly. "Wow, I actually really like this! Thanks, Ivy!" I skipped to her and gave her a squeeze.
"No problem, Babe." She winked at me.
"That's the gayest thing I've ever seen and heard." Anikah piped in from the bean bag.
"As if you haven't seen me." Julia said before tackling Anikah with hugs.
"They're referring to what you just did, right? Not the outfit?" I asked with a laugh.
"Yep. But hey, I'm generally just like that. Anyways, what do you guys think of Hazel's outfit." Ivy asked, turning to the rest of our friends.
"It looks reallyyyyy cute, Hazel! You should totally go with it." Honey said without looking up from her phone. She was texting someone.
I narrowed my eyes and walked to her. "Who are you texting?" I asked as I appeared behind her. She jumped a bit.
"Wait. You're texting Connor! Oh my god! You guys are on the texting phase now? That's so cute!" I started jumping up and down in excitement.
She pulled her phone to her chest. "Hey, this is about you and Asher. Not me and Connor."
I sighed in exasperation. "It's Caleb!"
"Whatever." They all said in monotone unison.
~~~~~~~

I ran outside with my mini backpack all packed when I heard Caleb's car honk.

"Hey, babe." He said in a smooth voice as I hopped in the car.

"Hi, Caleb." I strapped my seat belt on. I didn't know why, but it felt weird to call him babe, so I didn't.

"What podcast do you wanna listen to?" He asked as he searched on his phone.

I nervously fidgeted with my fingers. "Um, what if we listened to music instead."

He looked at me weirdly. "Sure, I guess."

I got excited. "Ooh, can we listen to Panic! at the Disco or Cavetown or Conan Gray or something?!!"

"Who are they? Wait, aren't they those emo guys?" He cocker his eyebrow.

"I mean, no. They're just kinda alternative, I guess. One of them used to be emo but that was in the 2000s. Now they're- er he I guess classifies as pop. The other two are like alt-indie I think?"

He looked at me as if I grew three extra heads. "Let's just listen to what's on the radio."

We ended up listening to some random rappers on a hip-hop station. Don't get me wrong, I liked rap... if it was Twenty One Pilots.

We shortly arrived at the ice rink and spotted Asher and Sheyla.

"Hey, Hazel, Caleb." Asher said, looking between us.

"Hey." We said back.

We stood there until it got so awkward that we forced ourselves inside. We got our skates and sat at the bench right outside the rink to put them on. We all got them on and waddled into the rink. Right when I stepped onto the ice, I slipped.

Yes I'd been ice skating before. No I couldn't ice skate.

I could see in the corner in my eye when Asher rushed over to help me up, but Caleb got to me first. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up.

"Hehe, thanks." I laughed awkwardly.

"Try not to fall too much. I want to be able to skate without having to monitor anyone." Caleb said it in a playful tone, but it made me feel bad.

I fell a few more times and I could see Caleb and even Sheyla getting even more annoyed as time went on. So I said I had to go to the bathroom and stepped out of the rink.

I sat down on the bench and looked at all the little kids playing in the arcade. I smiled and took off my skates to put on my converse. Playing in the arcade would be way more fun than ice skating!

~~~~~~~
"No, I don't care, Jimmy. I won. Now you better pay up. Come on." I held my hand out for him.
Jimmy-a nine year old boy I met at the arcade- pulled the arcade currency out of his pocket. "Man, you hustled me." We were playing air hockey.
"You know it!" I said as he placed the bag of skittles in the palm of my hand.
"Hazel?"
I turned around to find Asher looking at me like I was insane. "Oh, hi..."
"Are you taking candy from little kids?" He looked shocked but, I knew he wanted to join in.
~~~~~~~

"For the last time, Timmy, I won fair and square!" Asher said as he snatched the sour patch kids out of the kid's hands.

"Kimmy, give me the stinkin' m&m's!" I chased her around for the bag.

I heard a whistle and looked behind me. A staff member grabbed mine and Asher's arms and pulled us out of the arcade until we were outside of the building.

"You guys are banned for a week! You can come back when you learn not to steal from children!" The man said as he slammed the door in our faces.

"Well,  fuck you!" Asher yelled at the closed door.

We stood there, bummed out for a bit until I remembered something.

I gasped. "I forgot my backpack in there!"

Asher looked at me and grinned. "Operation save Hazel's Backpack is On."

~~~~~~~
"Just a little higher." I said.
"I'm trying! Hold on." Asher lifted me up higher from his back onto his shoulders. He gripped my thighs as to not drop me and I held onto his hair as to not fall.
We were trying to get into the air vents to retrieve my backpack from inside.
I was almost there... "Got it!" I exclaimed as my hand got a hold of the vents. "Pass me the screwdriver!"
Asher tossed it up to me and I unscrewed all the bolts on the cover. Once the cover was off, I lifted myself into the air vents.
"Pull me up." Asher said from the ground.
I reached down for his hand and used everything in me plus his own strength to pull him up.
We started crawling around once we were both in the vents. I was looking through all the vent covers to see which one led to the main area where I left my backpack.
"Have you found it yet?" Asher asked impatiently.
"If I had found it yet, I would've told you." I shot back as I stopped to look back at him with squinted eyes.
"Yeesh, I'm sorry." He held just hands defensively.
I realized too late that I was on top of one of the vent covers and it gave way under me. I panicked and grabbed Asher's hand to keep myself from falling, but I just brought him down with me.
I groaned as Asher landed on top of me.
"I really need to stop falling out of air vents." He said with a sigh.
I looked up when I heard a bunch of screaming. Oh no. We landed in the birthday party room...
"Mom! Look at them! They ruined my party!" The little girl with the special birthday hat on yelled.
I rolled Asher off of me and jumped to my feet. "I am so so so so sorry! I didn't mean to- I was just trying to-"
"We didn't mean to ruin your party." Asher cut me off as he got up from the floor. He thought for a second and reached into his pocket. "Here, have thirty dollars!" He gestured the money towards the little girl.
Her mom snatched the money out of Asher's hand and put it in her pocket. "Are you trying to bribe my daughter?"
Asher looked down in shame.
"Wait, no! Mom, I can use this for that rocking unicorn I wanted but you couldn't afford!" The girl wiped her tears away and tugged at her mom's sleeve with a giant smile.
Her face turned red. "Fine."
The little girl ran up and pulled Asher and I into a bear hug, even though she only went up to my waist and Asher's hips. "Thank you strangers!!!"
"Don't hug them! They're covered in dust!" Her mom yelled.
The door swung open and the same staff member from before poked his head in. "What is all the ruckus? I know this is a six year old's birthday party but yeesh!" Then he saw us. "You!"
I grabbed Asher's arm and held onto it in fear as the man slowly stalked towards us. Asher angled his body forward as some sort of protection. It made me feel less scared.
"Come with me!" The man said as he grabbed a hold of both of us.
He tossed us outside of the building once again and we landed on the floor with a thump.
He was about to close the door when I yelled out. "Wait! Sir, I forgot my backpack in there."
He groaned."What does it look like?" I gave him a description of the back and he came back a few minutes later and tossed it onto my lap.
"Two and a half weeks! Maybe even three! You're banned!" He yelled.
"Thank you!" I squeaked as he slammed the door again.
Asher brushed himself off and lifted himself to his feet. He put out his hand and helped me up.
"What do we do now?" He asked, looking at me expectantly.
My face fell in worry. "I don't know."
