(y/n)'s pov:

Harry, Ron and I jumped out of our seats and off the train in the matter of what felt like seconds but probably took longer since there was obviously a lot of students.

"Right then, first years this way, please! Come on now, first years, don't be shy. Come on hurry up!" A big, hairy guy stood holding a lit up lantern. Harry looked over at the guy and a look of relief splashed across his face. Ron and I followed him to the man while taking in our surroundings. "Hello, Harry."

"Hey, Hagrid," Harry replied.

"Woah!" Ron looked Hagrid up and down.

"Ronald quit being so rude!" I slapped him lightly with the back of my hand.

"Sorry," Ron replied while rubbing his arm.

"Right then, this way to the boats then, come on follow me!" We all followed the man to where lines of boats were. Of course, I stayed with Ron and Harry and two boys came with us in one boat. Ron was ~unfortunately~ given the task of holding the large lantern at the head of the boat.

"This is so exciting!" I said in awe when the castle became bigger as we came closer. "I wonder what house I'll be in."

"I know I will be in Gryffindor, it's run in my family, but I don't really know about you. Maybe even though you're not related by blood you'll be in Gryffindor, too!"

"I don't really know which house I'll be in. This is all so new and nervewracking," Harry said with a nervous tone.

"It's alright Harry we'll all be here for you." I smiled at the boy and tried to lighten his mood.

"Wicked," I heard Ron say as we pulled up to the dock.

"Alright, first years, head into those doors and right up the stairs. Professor McGonagall will be waiting for ya!" Hagrid said and walked through a different entrance into the castle.

Harry, Ron and I were in the lead and soon enough, at the top of the stairs, an older woman with a stereotypical witch hat was there to greet us.

"Welcome to Hogwarts," she started, "Now, in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates, but before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses." Ron, Harry and I shared a nervous glance. "They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup."

I hear a weird squeaky noise coming from the ground and when I peer down, a toad is sitting which makes me jump a little into Ron who furrows his eyebrows at my sudden movement.

"Trevor!" A boy shouts and runs up the stairs to fetch his toad. He looks up at the professor, who gives him a look in return. "Sorry," the boy mumbles and returns to where he was standing before.

"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." With those words said, she turns around and walks into a different door than the main ones. I was about to say something to Ron and Harry when a voice speaks throughout the staircase for everyone to hear.

"It's true then. What they're saying on the train. Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." I look to my left and notice the Malfoy kid was the idiot speaking. "This is Crabbe and this is Goyle and I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." The kid walks up to us on a step above and I roll my eyes while Ron snickers. "Think my name is funny, do you? I've no need to ask yours. Red hair and a hand me down robe. You must be a Weasley." My eyes widen as he tried to use our name as an insult. "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort," Malfoy says and looks at Ron when speaking those last words. "I can help you there." Malfoy puts out his hand waiting for Harry to shake it, which I mentally beg him not to do.

"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks." Harry shoots back which makes Draco speechless. McGonagall appears from behind Malfoy and taps him with a roll of parchment paper. With one last evil eye, Malfoy returns to where he stood.

"We're ready for you now, follow me," McGonagall says and we follow her as the two main doors open for us. Two by two we head down the center aisle in between the long wooden tables.

"It's not real, the ceiling, it's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I've read about it in 'Hogwarts: A History'." The Hermione girl says to me as we make our way to in front of the table of professors. On a stool in the front, sat a ratty old hat on top of a stool.

"Will you wait along here please." McGonagall points to the area in front of the stool. "Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." The old man who sat in the middle of the teachers with a long white rose from his seat.

"I have a few start of term notices I wish to announce. The first years please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also, our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you, the third-floor corridor on the right side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you"

"Sometimes I consider it," I whisper to Ron who replies with a soft chuckle.

"When I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses. Hermione Granger!" I turn to my right to Hermione and smile at her even though she was low key in the middle of a freakout.

"Okay, relax," she says to herself and walks up the steps.

"Mental that one, I'm tellin ya," Ron whispers to Harry but I overhear and elbow him a little for being mean to one of my almost friends. Professor McGonagall places the hat on her head and it starts to speak.

"Ahh, right there. Right. Okay. Gryffindor!" Hermione is clearly pleased and makes her way to the Gryffindor table.

"Draco Malfoy." I roll my eyes again.

The blonde boy steps up to the stool and takes a seat.

"Slytherin!" The hat says without even touching his head.

"There's not a witch or wizard who went bad without being in Slytherin," Ron says quietly to Harry and me.

"Oh shut it, Ron, you seem to forget that Merlin was a Slytherin and you don't know if I'll be in that house, so can you please not house shame." He sends an apologetic look my way.

"Susan Bones." A red-headed girl with bangs steps up and takes a seat on the stool.

"Hmm where should I put you... Hufflepuff!"

"Ronald Weasley." Ron turns to Harry then to me with a shocked look on his face, then slowly approaches the chair. He sits down and McGonagall places the hat on his head.

"Ha!" The hat says suddenly scaring Ron which makes me smile. "Another Weasley. I know what to do with you... Gryffindor!" Ron's face relaxes and he makes his way to the Gryffindor table.

"(Y/n) Weasley."
