I stood in front of the mirror in my room speaking affirming words to myself before heading downstairs to have breakfast. Stephen was in the kitchen with Aunty Joke, she was packing his lunch, and Vivian was having breakfast in the dining room.

The weekend had gone by faster than I expected,  and I was looking forward to school as usual. Rachel came to my house on Saturday morning and left on Sunday evening and I was able to persuade her to study with me which she subsequently appreciated because she had been slacking on some courses.

I arrived at the dining room and greeted sister Vivian who was all dressed up for work.

"Stephen I think your school bus is here," I said at the top of my voice as I hear the honk of the bus

"He's coming o" Aunty Joke replied and they both hurriedly came out of the kitchen handing him his lunch bag. "Be a good boy and don't waste the food o" She added.

"Yes ma, Bye sis," He said running towards the door entrance

"Byeeee" Vivian and I replied in unison.

"Good morning Aunty Joke" I greeted

"Morning my dear. I dey go market with the car for afternoon, shey I should pick you up from school when you are done"

"Aunty Joke don't bother, I'll come home with my friends when I'm done with school"

"Alright, ko take care o"

"Thank you ma"

"Joke please add toothpaste to the list you are taking to the market. I'm almost out of it" Vivian added

"Yes ma" She replied and exited the dining room

"I noticed you came down late for breakfast, hope nothing?" Vivian asked

"Oh no nothing, ehm I guess I woke up late" I stuttered

"Okay" She replied staring at me suspiciously. I guess I was acting nervous because, of course, I slept late talking to Alex not realizing time had passed until it was 3 am., so when my alarm went off, I didn't realize I had gotten up late than usual.

"Sister Vivian, so how was your date with Andrew. I just remembered we haven't had enough time to talk about it since you came back". I asked smiling trying to ease the atmosphere.

" Amebo don't you have to be on your way to school now?" She answered back laughing

"Sharon will call me when she gets here. Where did you guys go, I need the full gist in detail" I said teasing and my phone rang immediately

"Good thing she's here already. You better start going"

"Don't worry you are telling me everything at night" I replied standing up and heading to the door entrance.

"I hear you. Be good okay"

"I will and you too byeee".

" We have come to the end of today's lecture. No assignment today; however we'll be having our mid-semester test next Tuesday so prepare well for it. See you next week" Mrs. Ajala addressed us after taking us to a two hours class on Genetics II.

Her courses were always lively,  and she always found a way to connect each topic she taught to a personal experience she had in the past

I'm not sure how one person could have so much life experience, but I think we all enjoyed hearing her stories and looked forward to each lesson with her.

"Okay ma" We chorused.

"Omo this test go be oo". I haven't started reading her course and we've already covered a lot this semester" Sharon grumbled as she flipped through her notes realizing how much we've covered for the semester.

"Babe, start from somewhere you'll catch up. Her course isn't that hard" Rachel assured her smiling and tapping her shoulder.

"Yeah I guess so" She answered lazily

"Jane, I'm coming over again to your place this weekend oo." Rachel said

"Oh yeah me too" Sharon added.

"Ehn ehn so you guys know how to read now abi. Rachel, I forced you last week to come over to study, and Sharon, I thought you said you weren't interested and my life revolved so much around my books" I replied air quoting the precise word she said to me the other day.

"But we meant well now" Rachel added.

"Hm, whatever. Well, I'm not sure I'll be around on Saturday. I replied biting my nails and ignoring whatever facial expressions they were making at the time.

"Aunty where are you going to oo," Sharon asked with her face already judging the hell out of me

"Somewhere" I replied taking a glance at her

"See who has started keeping secrets away from her friends" Rachel joined in.

"She's lying Rachel. Jane you don't even like going out, so I don't believe you"

"Guys, I'm serious o"

"Then tell us" Sharon solicited

Rachel nodded

"Okay fine, I'll tell you. So there's this boy", I paused looking at the facial expressions of my friends which got me more nervous. "You see, this is why I didn't want to tell you guys" I said.

"We didn't say anything now" Rachel defended

"Hmm hm" Sharon added

"But your expressions are saying it all already"

"We are just surprised, that's it," Rachel said convincing me

"Yea, Just tell us already we are dying to know" Sharon pleaded.

"Okay okay fine, I'll tell you for real. As I was saying, there is this guy in the engineering department who is in his final year, his name is Alex, and we've been texting each other for a while now. We met at the cafeteria sometime last year, and he collected my Twitter handle and texted me back then. I didn't respond to his message until last week and we've been texting back and forth. He wants us to meet this weekend in person but I haven't given him a response yet."

"So what made you pick up your phone to reply to him after ignoring him for almost a year now," Sharon asked curiously

" I don't know, I probably just felt like and, you two are also on my neck to get a boyfriend"

"So, do you like this guy enough to want to be in a relationship with him?" Rachel asked

"I don't know if I like him that much yet but I guess he's a cool person and we've had good conversations since we started talking"

" Aww, my baby is all grown, you are making me a proud mom" Sharon teased.

"Go away Joor" I replied shyly fondling my fingers. "Don't worry I'll just cancel on him so we can spend the weekend together, studying"

"No no no you can't do that" Rachel shook her head in disapproval

"Exactly! You can't cancel on him. I just said you were making me a proud mom, don't let me take that back girl"

"I'm nervous and I don't even have any interesting outfit to wear for a date"

"That's easy, we can figure out something, or I can even borrow you an outfit to put on" Sharon suggested

"No, you know I don't like to borrow clothes"

"Okay fine, but we can find something interesting in your closet"

"Yeah, I agree with Rachel. Let's come over to your place before Saturday. Oh wait, Jane, I remember giving you this nice slit skirt as a present on your last birthday. I haven't seen you on it yet. Maybe we can work with that"

"Sharon to be honest with you, that skirt is kind of slutty, and I'm not trying to look desperate for any guy's attention".

" Whatever, we are coming over to help you prepare for your first date ever"

"I hear you" I replied lazily rolling my eyes...
