Thiago's POV

"Now what?" Marcelo asked and the question was left hanging in the air, no one found anything to reply.

"I'm going." Marina said when no one spoke. I had to admire her guts.

"Not by yourself." Peter said and walked over to her. I saw Bernard eyeing him carefully.

"What are we going to do about the generator?" Oscar asked looking at Carlito who was looking through a closet.

"I'm going to have a look at it. I need someone to come with me." He said as he emerged with a toolbox and a flashlight.

"Okay, let's go." I told him. "And no one leave until we come back." I said looking at Marina. She opened her mouth to protest but I cut her. "I mean it Marina."

"Hurry back." She said.

"Our landline is gone. I know it's futile but keep checking your phones. Maybe we'll get lucky." I said. If we indeed did it would be the first break we'd catch in a while. Because everything else had gone monumentally wrong.

Olivia's POV

"We are going to die here and I won't have told Sarah—" David started yelling, barely audible through the wind.

"Sarah?" I yelled back. "Oh now you remember Sarah! You've been avoiding her for weeks."

"Death puts everything into perspective. So what if she almost got married to some other dude. The fact is she didn't."

"We aren't going to die David." I told him matter-of-factly. "And please remember all those epiphanies when you're sipping hot tea at the shelter and call her already." I said, trying to sound optimistic. The truth was I wasn't so sure we'd find our way to the shelter anytime soon.

The sun had completely disappeared from the sky but the rain kept going hard. It was impossible to navigate through the leaves and branches and somehow we had lost the trail completely. The ground was covered in a few inches of mud and my feet sank in it all the way to my ankles with each step I took. My beige converse were a thing of the past.

Finally we decided it would be fruitless to keep going and instead found a thick bush that blocked most of the water and was relatively dry and we crouched under it.

A few times we noticed the rain slow down a little and we tried to make a run for it but the moment we stepped out from under the bush we got soaked all over again. So in the end we gave up completely.

My clothes were soaking wet and they made me that much colder but in wonder I saw David produce a blanket thingy from his backpack.

"I could kiss you right now!" I exclaimed. "How on earth did you think to pack a blanket with you? You said you thought it'd be sunny."

"It's actually a picnic blanket. But in desperate times..." He said and he took his shirt off. "What?" He asked when he saw me looking at him with my eyebrows raised. "We will soak it with the wet clothes."

He was right. I sighed and took my t-shirt off too, revealing my white, with a green palm trees print, bikini top. I had worn it in anticipation of David's crazy adventures but I never actually thought it would be soaking wet due to a storm.

"Nice bathing suit." David commented, raising the blanket he had put around his shoulders for me to crawl under as well. I instantly felt warmer.

I rolled my eyes at him.

"We should like take a picture." He continued. "It would make one hell of a story, us stranded in the mountain, doing anything necessary to survive."

"Aren't you exaggerating a bit? I wouldn't classify crawling under a bush as top notch surviving skills."

"It's all about how you present it." David said as he searched through his backpack again.

"Isn't this the backpack that keeps on giving?" I commented when he produced two energy bars.

"You know my blood sugar gets low on hikes." He told me. "So chocolate or passion fruits?" He asked showing me the energy bars.

"Chocolate, duh." I said taking one. "Thanks. Do you happen to have a flashlight too?" I asked hopefully.

"Nope. I didn't plan for an overnight stay." He said.

"That's alright. So... I think we'll be just fine. The storm is bound to stop soon and we are safe here. I just hope they didn't send anyone out searching for us."

David nodded. "But knowing our friends, that's just highly unlikely."

David was right. I was just glad that Neymar wasn't in the park at all and he wouldn't be allowed inside in the middle of the storm. Otherwise he'd spend the whole night searching for us in the dark, resulting in a mild case of pneumonia or worse. He must be so worried, I thought, feeling awful for being the reason for his worry. And everyone else's. If Scolari and the rest of the coaches found out about this they would be so disappointed. And Mr. Jones too. God, what if the press caught wind of it? They'd crucify us.

I tried to push those thoughts away from my mind, wishing for morning to come already. Best case scenario? This would make one hell of a story, just like David said.

"Thiago's POV.

"How is it going up there?" I heard a voice but didn't know who it belonged too. I was currently up on the roof of the shelter behind Carlito, having climbed an old frail ladder that miraculously hadn't broken in two while I was on it.

I was soaked wet and I couldn't see two feet in front of me, as I tried to point the flashlight Carlito's way as he tried to fix the broken backup generator.

I knew perfectly well that right now we were like sitting ducks, waiting for a lightning to fry us alive.

"We're trying!" I yelled through the rain. Carlito wasn't looking good. He was old and weak to begin with, but climbing the ladder and trying to balance his feet in the wet roof, while the rain beat down on us had taken its toll on him. He looked sickly pale under the flashlight. I shouldn't have let him climb, I thought to myself. But he was the only one that had a chance of fixing the generator and everyone down at the shelter had freaked out when the light went off. "Carlito, maybe we should give up and head down." I yelled for him to hear me.

"Hold on." I heard him say. "One second."

"Thiago, the others are gone." The voice yelled again and I realized it was Oscar.

Gone? You've got to be kidding me! "Who left?"

"Peter, Dani and Marcelo."

"What the hell?" I yelled. "I told them to stay!"

"Let's go down." Carlito said. "The generator is fried, there's no way to get it to work. We'll have to wait for the main generator to kick back when the weather improves."

"Okay, let's go." I said, taking slow, careful steps towards the ladder. "Oscar, can you secure the ladder?" I looked down, trying to locate him but I couldn't see anything. The occasional lightning was our only source of light.

"You first." I told Carlito, wanting to help him down. In the faint light he looked delirious.

"Yes, yes." I heard him matter. "One more step."

"No! NO!" The voice escaped my mouth, almost savagely, burning my throat. Carlito had stepped into the void and disappeared below. "Carlito? CARLITO? ARE YOU OKAY?" I yelled. "Oscar! Carlito fell!"

I heard movement below and I headed for the ladder, climbing down as quickly as I could.

"Is he okay?" I asked when I located them.

"He's alive." Oscar said. Carlito was moaning loudly. "He could have broken something."

"Did you see him fall?" I inquired. "Did he hit his head?" I knew that that was the worse. Legs and hands heal, but a head injury was serious.

"I didn't see." Oscar said. "We have to take him inside."

"We can't move him!" I said. "Carlito, do you hear me? Tell me what hurts."

Carlito didn't say anything but moaned again.

"He doesn't understand. He's delirious." Oscar said.

"Go back inside; find something to move him with safely." I said and Oscar disappeared. "We need a fucking ambulance." I muttered to myself. How did all of this happen?

David and Liv, lost. Now Peter, Marcelo and Dani out there too. Carlito in really bad shape. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Everything had gone to hell fast.
