Dylan flashes me a grin, waving his beer in the air as he continues on with how he broke up with Hailey Palmer.

"This is freaking awesome," he chugs the remaining contents of his beer down his throat.

"I'm telling you, dude. It was awesome. I could feel it the moment she walked away from me. All that rubbish I've been feeling for ages just left me. And all I could think about was how free I was. Free! I mean, really free!" he raises his eyebrows at me, encouraging me to celebrate with him.

Noah walks over to us with two beers and hands one over to me. He is still in his jersey,  hours after the game has ended. Noah clinks his bottle against mine, before taking a sip.

"Oh, man," Dylan sighs, smiling much to himself than those he is preaching to - on how girls are energy vampires. His audience consists of Noah and me.

"I really can't believe that I am finally free," he says, a permanent grin etched across his lips.

After today's victory, he had walked over to Hailey Palmer and pulled her aside from the other cheerleaders.

She had begun bitching about how he is a useless captain to the team and he should score more touchdowns.

"But the team won," Dylan had argued.

"But you didn't score anything," Hailey had countered.

That is when Dylan had decided that everything had a limit and his relationship with Hailey had to come to an end.

"I'm better off without her, man," Dylan insists, his lips curled in an ecstatic smile.

Noah nods, his arms crossed over his chest and his head bent low in contemplation.

"She only hooked up with me because I am captain," Dylan continues.

"Girls are blackholes that pull you in and not let you out," he says, looking like someone with a century of experience

Personally, I don't see how any of this is making any sense. Breakups are supposed to hurt. Right?

Not that I would know how it is supposed to feel. But I've seen enough to know that it is not something to be happy about.

When Mom and Dad split up, it wasn't happy. They kept saying that it was a mutual and logical decision, but I could always see that it hurt. Mom would still cry sometimes doubting if it was the right decision.

But that does not seem to be the case for Dylan.

When he notices how unimpressed I am about his big breakup with Hailey, he crocks his head to the side watching me thoughtfully.

"You think that I'm lying." It is a statement.

"No," I say, taking a sip of my beer.

Dylan is not convinced. "Don't tell me you think that I am a bad person for dumping her. It was meant to happen."

"I wouldn't know," I tell him, trying to sound nonchalant.

He watches me for a second too long waiting for me to crack up laughing, but when I don't he raises his eyebrows at me.

"Really?"

"Really," I shrug.

"Oh, man!" Noah laughs, "Don't tell me that you never dated a girl before."

They shake their heads at my uncomfortable silence. Dylan laughs half-heartedly giving me an i-can't-believe-this look.

"What?" I place my beer on the floor, annoyed that they make it sound like I'm a loser.

"We gotta make this right, dude," Dylan says, turning serious for a moment.

Noah agrees, nodding along to Dylan.

"What are you talking about?" I ask.

They exchange a knowing smile which makes me more agitated by the minute.

"A Dare - you ready Jenkins?" Dylan fixes his eyes on me.

I can tell that he's a little drunk but this sounds crazy. A Dare?

"Yes, a dare, Brian. Don't tell me that you are going to say no to a dare," Dylan wiggles his eyebrows at me.

"No," I say, "No dares, guys. That's stupid."

Dylan chuckles, slinging an arm around my shoulders, "You're telling us that you're afraid of a dare, Brian?"

Noah has a twisted expression in his eyes that I can't quite understand. Maybe he thinks that I am afraid of a dare too.

I know that they are poking me, daring me to say no. And it is not my way to let them call me a loser.

I get to my feet, dragging Dylan's drunk weight with me in the process. "Okay, that's enough. I'm not afraid of a dare." I say firmly.

"Yeah, that's the Jenkins we know," Dylan ruffles my hair, grinning widely.

"Alright, here's the dare - Get yourself a girl and dump her in a month," Dylan says, " Trust me, when that happens, you'll be the happiest man on Earth."

I have no other choice. It's not like I'm ready to go down in history as a coward. So before it looks like I'm doubting myself, I say, "Alright, I'm in."

Dylan gives a loud whoop, before settling down to pat on my back.

"But wait, who should the girl be?" Noah pipes in, taking a long swig off his beer, his eyes narrowed into slits

Dylan pats his pockets, pulling out his phone. He opens Instagram, scrolling to the very top of his feed. "Okay, so the lucky girl is...,"

He turns his phone towards me. On the screen is a picture of Hailey with another of the cheerleaders.

"Hailey?"

"Nuh-uh. The brunette."

I glance at the other girl. She's someone I remotely remember from the cheerleaders - a small girl with dark curly hair.

"Kara Merrick," Dylan says pointing at the screen, "She's going to be the girl."

Kara Merrick. She looks like an easy target.

"Alright, the dare's on," I smirk, my eyes fixed on Kara Merrick.

I'm not gonna lose.
