Authors Note: This chapter is basically just free time events. You can either skip it, or read just your favorites. But I'd suggest reading most, if not all
of them. They may play into the actual trials. But you won't know when and how. Either way, have a good time with the story!

"H- hello students. This is a formal a- announcement. The time is now 7 AM. That means that n- nighttime is officially over. Have a g- good day!" Araigu said from the monitor, before it suddenly shut off.

I stared up at it, entirely tired. I'd only gotten the slightest bit of sleep last night because of what happened with Kawata. I wanted to get more sleep, but I knew the promise I made yesterday. I can't just sit around all day. I want to get to know everyone here. I want to make sure I'm proud of who I am.

I got up, and quickly got ready. I was about to look at the time, before suddenly, a stuffed animal appeared in front of me.

"Hirano!" Ressa yelled, jumping up out of practically nowhere. I held back the urge to scream. "You did something that makes me aaaaaaaaannnnnngggggggrrrrrrryyyyyy! Ugh, how annoying! And I can't do anything about it!"

"W- what did I do?" I asked. He glared at me, before disappearing. What was that about?

There shouldn't be anything I have to do today, so, what should do?

-Free Time-

I walked out of my room, and went straight to the kitchen. There would definitely be people there to talk to. I approached someone.

"Why hello Hirano. Would you want to help me bake something?" Otani asked.

Should I hang out with Otani? -Yes- -No-

"Great! I would love some help with this recipe!" He said.

I helped Otani bake a cake. I mostly messed it up for him, getting flour all over the room. But he didn't seem to mind.

I think Otani and I got a little bit closer today. Would I like to give him a present? -Yes- -No-

I gave Otani some measuring cups.

"You'd give this to me? You're so sweet Hirano." He said, a bright smile on his face. "I'm a bit curious, how did you gain your talent?" I thought about it for a moment.

"W- well, not very many p- people like to listen to me t- talk. Teaching people things th- they don't know was the only way I could g- get people to pay attention. S- so, I started l- learning new things and teaching p- people about it." I smiled.

"Well, I would love to hear you talk about the things you enjoy." He replied, giving me a warm grin. Otani is just so bright and bubbly, I can't help but be happy around him.

"W- what about you? How did you g- get your talent?" I asked.

"Well, my family have always been people who want to discover. They've always wanted me to do something I'm proud of, and that I've actually enjoyed. Baking was just something I did in my past time, until my mother entered me into a baking competition. I didn't really want to, but she insisted I try." He said.

"S- so, you didn't want to d- do the competition?" I asked.

"Of course not. Baking has always been something that I've used to make the people I love happy. I don't want to weaponize it for competitive means." He explained. "I ended up winning the competition, which made the public excited. They wanted me to open my own bakery. My family cheered me on, so I did it. But it's always been very stressful. I own the business, but I rarely go there."

"I- I see, I'm sorry you have to deal with that."

"It's alright. It's not to much of a burden." He paused for a moment. "Not to many people are excited that I'm here. I'd like to bake everyone something special. Could you help me set up a time for when we can gather everyone to meet up for food at some point?"

"Y- yeah, I'd love to h- help." I said. His smile grew even wider.

"Thank you so much. I'll talk to you about it later. Have a good day Hirano." He replied.

I walked out of the kitchen into the dining room. Imamura was standing there.

"I can't believe everyone is allowing Taguchi to just do whatever he wants! I protest this whole thing!" She said.

Should I hang out with Imamura? -Yes- -No-

"Um, I don't really know what you'd want to do. But I guess it's fine." She said, angrily looking away from me.

Imamura discussed everything that was wrong with the world. Well, it was more like a rant, but she saw it as a discussion.

Would I like to give Imamura a present? -Yes- -No-

I gave Imamura a beanie made of cotton.

"H- huh? You're giving this to me? Well... I guess I'm forced to take it off your hands..." she said. She was silent after that. If the silence continues, I think she might yell at me.

"S- so, how did you get your talent?" I asked. She glared at me for a moment.

"There are lots of injustices on our planet. If I want to make sure that everyone is safe, it's my duty as a person to protest for the people who need help." She explained. "What about you? How'd you get your talent?"

"Um, p- people only really listen to me if I teach them something." I replied. She almost seemed to be ticked off by that.

"That's exactly it." She said. I stared for a moment.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I fight so people don't get judged off of petty things. Like being a certain gender of race. People judge others before they even know them, and as long as that doubt exists, then we can't move forward in this society." She replied. I don't know how that applied to what I said, but I guess it made sense.

"Th- that's very kind of you to d- do." I said. She paused, staring at me for a moment.

"Yeah... it is. That's why I do it." She snapped back. She stopped talking, deciding looking away from me and mumbling something under her breath. I'm not really sure what to say anymore. Should I just walk away? That would be good.

I walked away from Imamura. I looked around the area for a moment, before noticing someone else. I approached her.

"Hey Hirano! So, you wanna do something cool? I don't really know what we'd do, but I'm just in the mood to do something, y'know?" Morita said with a bright smile.

Should I hang out with Morita Yoshie? -Yes- -no-

"Sweet! Wanna do a race?" She said.

Morita and I raced around the hotel. I nearly passed out halfway through, so she had to carry me the rest of the way. It was really embarrassing, but despite that experience, I think that Morita and I grew closer today.

Would you like to give Morita a present? -Yes- -no-

I gave Morita some fuzzy dice.

"Woah! How'd you know I liked these things! Thanks Hirano! I won't forget to give you something in return!" She said. She paused for a minute. "Hey, Hirano. You afraid of anything?"

"H- huh? What kind o- of question is that!?" I replied.

"Come ooonnnnn! You can tell me you know? I'll keep it a secret! Pretty pleeeeeaaaaase?" She responded. I sighed.

"W- well, I'm mostly j- just scared of people. A- also death. And f- fear itself. I just d- don't like to be in stressful situations..." I explained.

"Ooo, looks like you've got some problems on your hand! Well, I can help you! Since I'm fearless like that." She said, laughing to herself.

"R- really? Your not afraid of a- anything?" I replied. Suddenly, she stopped laughing, her face becoming serious.

"W- what? Are you saying you think I'm scared of something? Well I'm not. So you don't have to keep asking..." she responded, glaring at me.

"I- I wasn't saying that at all! I- in fact, I believe you o- one hundred percent!" I yelled in a panic. Morita glared for another moment, before a bright smile went across her face.

"Good! Then I'll see you later!" She said, all cheery before skipping away. What was that about?

I didn't think much of it, instead walking away to go talk to someone else. Almost immediately, I saw someone I could talk to. I approached them, then making eye contact with me after a moment.

"Why hello there Hirano! Wanna make some mischief? Heh heh heh...." Sugai said, chuckling to himself.

Should I hang out with Sugai Tatsuo? -Yes- -No-

"YES! Alright, so here's the plan..." Sugai replied.

Sugai and I began setting up a prank in one of the rooms. I was very skeptical about the whole things, since the bucket he put on the top of the door could easily fall and hit someone on the head. But it was quickly foiled by Kajiwara, who walked in and avoided the whole thing.

I think Sugai and I became a bit closer today.

"Ugh, Kajiwara always foils everything! It seems like he always figures out my plans. Maybe he's stalking me..." Sugai said, whispering. He put his hand on his chin, seeming lost in his thoughts. "Oh well! Hey Hirano, how's your life outside of this weird hotel thing?"

"U- um... it's alright. My dads pretty nice and I have a little brother at home." I said.

"Ooo, I don't have any siblings. How is that?" He asked.

"W- well, it's okay. H- he's only a baby so..." I began.

"Does he take a lot of your parents attention? Cuz I know that my parents barely even look at me. Must be hard for you to even talk to them!" He said, chuckling to himself.

"O- oh... that's... tragic." I replied. He suddenly burst out into laughter, looking up at me.

"Wow! That was funny! You should be a comedian." He said. I stared at him for a moment. "Anyway, I gotta go plan some stuff out, so I'll talk to you later." Sugai said, walking away. That was an interesting conversation.

I looked over to the person staring at Sugai, shaking their head back and forth. I approached them.

"Sugai needs to calm his urges. He's being to reckless." Kajiwara said, almost his voice quiet and raspy.

Should I hang out with Kajiwara Hotaka? -Yes- -No-

"Very well. I'm not really sure what we should do, but we can do something together." He replied.

Kajiawara and I sat in silence. After awhile, he offered to help me meditate. I think it was because he could tell that I was freaking out, so we proceeded to meditate for awhile.

I think Kajiawara and I grew closer today.

Would you like to give Kajiwara a present? -Yes- -no-

I gave Kajiawara some colorful bandaids.

"Ah, I see. Thank you for the present. I'll make sure to use it wisely." He said. We sat in silence for a little while. It started to make me a bit uncomfortable. Was I the problem?

"U- um, do you have a- any fears!?" I blurted out. After a moment, I slapped my hand into my forehead. Why did I ask that?

"Hm, that's an interesting question. I'm curious, why did you ask that specifically?" He asked. I paused.

"W- well, Morita asked me th- that question a little while a- ago, and so it immediately c- came to my head..." I said. He nodded, putting a hand on his chin.

"Well, I guess you could call me something of a germaphobe. I think it's called Mysophobia. I'm not particularly afraid of germs, but I would call myself a neat freak. It makes me upset when theirs a mess or any sort of chaos." He explained. "Maybe that's why I follow Sugai around, since his disturbances can make me feel unpleasant. I listened to every word, nodding in response.

"That's interesting. I- I'm afraid of p- people mostly. That's w- why I'm so quiet and shy. U- um, is that a- also why you're s- so quiet?" I asked. He stared for a moment, his expression blank.

"No, I just don't enjoy the attention. And speaking loud makes me uncomfortable, along with most loud noises. Any sort of sound above the decibel level of 70 will make me completely defenseless." He said. He stared for another moment. "I don't know if that can be replicated though, besides with a scream."

"Y- you didn't have to tell me that..." I said. He shrugged his shoulders.

"I didn't have to, but I did." He replied. He stood up, walking to the door. "I'll talk to you later Hirano. Stay safe." He walked away.

My mind began to wander. Kajiwara can be disarmed by a loud noise... does that mean I could use that for murder-

I shook my head. I can't think like that. I'm never going to kill someone. I'll help everyone find a way out of here, and we'll survive. Right... that'll... definitely happen.

I walked away, trying to clear my mind. I didn't want to think like that. I wandered to the ultimate labs, hoping to do some studying to regain my focus. But, I walked into someone, which changed up my plans.

"AH!!! OH SHIT DON'T DO THAT!!!" Furuya screamed, making me yell in the process. She took a small sigh. "S- sorry, you just caught me off guard. That's all."

"U- um, it's okay." I said. She smiled, before her eyes lit up.

"OH FUCK HIRANO!!! I HAVE TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING!!!!" She yelled, so happy that she might as well have been glowing.

"W- what is it?" I asked. Suddenly, she grabbed my wrist, and dragged me back into the hotel. I didn't struggle, though part of my mind said that I was going to die. We stood in front of a door, Furuya jumping up and down.

"Okay! Close your eyes!" She said. But before I could even try, she put her hands over them. We walked into the room, my body partially shaking. What was going on? Was this an ambush? Was I gonna die!? Suddenly, she pulled her hands from my eyes, a sense of surprise coming over me.

"Surprise! They have a library! Isn't that so exciting!?" She said. I smiled in response. Furuya was so outspoken about books. I'd almost forgotten she was a librarian, which makes sense for why she would be so enthusiastic.

Should I hang out with Furuya Saki? -Yes- -No-

"Really!? Yes! Let's read a book together!" She yelled.

Furuya brought a stack of books to the table, sitting beside me. We opened a book that she said I would like, and opened it up. We both read silently, me tapping the page when I was ready for it to turn.

I think Furuya and I grew closer today.

Would you like to give Furuya a present? -Yes- -No-

I gave Furuya a book mark.

"Oh thank you! I can't wait to use it! You're so nice Hirano!" Furuya said, a bright smile on her face. We stared at the book for a little while longer. I wanted to say something to her, to break the silence.

"Hey, Furuya. W- where do you like to read?" I asked. She continued to look at the book, before looking up.

"Huh? What's you say?" She replied. My eyes widened. She ignored me? Was it something I did? Was it something I said? Does she hate me? No, she was just reading. I don't have to look into it to much.

"U- um, I asked where you l- like to read." I said. She paused for another moment.

"Well, I go to libraries obviously. But, I feel most comfortable at a cafe or in front of a crackling fire." She said. A smile grew across her face. "Ah, those nights when I can just sit by the fire, with a coffee next to me, listening to light jazz, with snow lightly falling from the sky... I love that feeling so much." I smiled.

"That's r- really cute!" I said, a bright expression appearing. Her face turned pink.

"Huh? W- why'd you say that?" She asked. I smiled.

"W- well, it's just the w- way you described it. I can t- tell you really like h- how relaxing it is." I said. She paused, closing the book.

"Y- yeah..." she stared for another moment. "Maybe we can read together again some time." She replied. I smiled, laughing.

"M- maybe by a fire." I said. She grinned, before standing up and walking away.

I got up from my seat, and walked out of the library. I wanted to talk to one more person before the day ended.

I saw someone walking down the hallway. I took a deep breath. I didn't want to talk to them, but if I could get a better sense of who they are, then everything would be better.

"What do you want..." Yamazaki sighed, seemingly annoyed by my presence.

Would you like to hang out with Yamazaki Kazuki? -Yes- -No-

"I didn't say you could hang out with me. Leave me alone." He said, walking away.

Yamazaki rejected the offer.

I stared, a frown on my face. I didn't really understand why he was being so harsh. Why he was avoiding me. Did he really hate me that much? Was I that much of a burden?

"Hey Hirano! What are you doing here?" Kawata asked, approaching me. I paused.

Should I hang out with Kawata Satoru? -Yes- -No-

"Oh, alright. Would you want to go grab something to eat?" Kawata asked.

Kawata and I walked down to the kitchen, meeting Otani there. We sat down to eat some dinner that was prepared for us. We laughed together, as we talked about our days. After awhile, we had some dessert, and continued to talk.

I think Kawata and I grew a bit closer today.

Would you like to give Kawata a gift? -Yes- -No-

I gave Kawata a magicians kit.

"Woah! This is really cool! I've never really had one of these, but I'll figure out how to use it. Thank you so much." He said, a bright smile on his face.

"H- hey, Kawata, what do you th- think about living here?" I asked. He paused.

"Well, it's alright, despite the constant threat of death. I say we should just stay here. I know that there's so much we could do outside of this place, but it's better than killing off our friends." He explained. I stared at him for a moment.

We didn't really know these people. They could be a potential murderer. Or maybe they have murdered in the past. Especially since Yuutsumi Academy began their rehabilitation program. There's no way that not one person would have some sort of dark past. But... he's a police officer. Maybe he knows better than me.

"I w- wouldn't mind getting out o- of here..." I whispered. Kawata stared at me for a moment.

"Y- you, don't mean that in a murderous way, right?" Kawata replied. My eyes went wide.

"N- no! I- I'd never mean it l- like that!" I cried out. He laughed nervously.

"Yeah, I knew you probably didn't mean it like that, but I gotta check, you know?" He said, chuckling a bit uncomfortably. "I've gotta protect everyone here, you know?"

"W- what do you mean?" I asked. He smiled.

"Well, I'm a police officer, it's my duty to protect everyone here. I'm going to try my very best to make sure everyone is safe." He said, a bright smile on his face. I couldn't help but think about how he used the word try. So, he wasn't confident no one would murder anyone either.

"W- well, thank you." I replied. He seemed surprised, before a bright smile appeared on his face.

With that, we went separate ways. I walked back to my room, going inside and locking the door behind me. I smiled. I made progress for reaching my goal. I laid down in bed, letting my eyes shut. I'd talk to more people tomorrow.

-

"H- hello students. This is a formal a- announcement. The time is now 7 AM. That means that n- nighttime is officially over. Have a g- good day!"

I awoke, squinting at the video monitor. I sighed, picking up my glasses. I would like to sleep in, but I've still got to talk to a bunch of people. I'd like to leave an impact on peoples lives before I die. I hopped out of bed, changing into some everyday attire.

Suddenly, a knocking came from my door. I paused, staring at the door. Without realizing it, a sense of dread came over me. What if they were here to kill me? I slowly approached the door, sweat running down my face. I reached for the door knob, just as a louder knock came from behind the door. I jumped back out of panic, staring at the entrance. I repeated things in my head to make me feel better, before slowly moving the door knob, and moving the door back. The chain lock still on.

"Why hello there Hirano!" Taguchi said, a bright smile on
