"I'm going to assume you're the one who sent the message." Alec said giving the man in front of him a once over.

"I am." The man nodded and held out his hand. "I am Raziel."

"Why did you warn me?" Alec ignored his outstretched hand.

"Because I've seen what you do. You're one of the good ones." The man pulled off his black trench coat and handed it to Alec who was still shivering.

"Thank you." Alec took it and put it on gratefully feeling warmer instantly.

"It's the least I could do. You gave your life for a kid you didn't even know." Raziel shrugged.

"But, I didn't really die, did I?" Alec asked, worried.

"You did, little Nephlim. I'm sorry. I lied when I told you that you'd live." Raziel bowed his head in shame.

"What the hell? By the angel you better be kidding!" Alec was outraged. How could this man have done this to him? Leave it to him to trust an angel. He should have told the others.

"You'll be okay." Raziel tried to touch Alec's shoulder but he angrily pulled away.

"Don't touch me. You lied. You let me die. I gave up my life for this plan and you just threw it away." Alec wanted to kill the man.

"Wait, it's going to be okay." Raziel tried to touch his shoulder again but Alec shoved him away. Alec ripped the coat off his body and threw it at Raziel's feet.

"I want you to leave." Alec raised an eyebrow in challenge, "now."

"Wait, please, let me explain."

"I said leave. The least you can do is let me be dead in peace." Alec turned to walk back to the darkness.

"Why are you so upset?" Raziel asked and Alec wade shocked to hear sincerity in his voice. Alec turned around to face him.

"You want to know why I'm so fucking upset?"

"Why else would I ask?" Raziel looked confused.

"I'm upset because you promised me that if I followed through with that damn crazy plan of yours then I would be okay." Alec poked him in the chest with his finger.

"Yes." Raziel nodded.

"Do I look fucking okay? I'm dead! That's not okay!" Alec yelled at him, so pissed that he started to cry. "I gave up a life with the love of my life to help you and this is what you give me? Darkness?"

"It's only dark because that's what you want." Raziel said calmly.

"No, what I want is to go back to my life." Alec demanded.

"Is that him? The one yippy are talking about?" Raziel asked, nodding towards a chair.

"Magnus?" Alec rushed to the chair where his boyfriend was sitting.

"Alexander, you're okay." Magnus leapt up and kissed him fiercely. "I was so worried."

"I'm fine, I missed you." Alec hugged him tightly.

"I missed you too." Magnus kissed his cheek. "Never do that to me again, you hear me? Never."

"I won't." Alec breathed in Magnus's scent and cried against his shoulder. "I'll never leave you again."

"Good. The others want to see you." Magnus pulled back but gripped Alec's hand tightly.

"Where are they?" Alec asked.

"The apartment." Magnus said as they started walking towards their home.

"Wait a second." Alec rubbed his forehead. How did they get onto the street? Where were they before this? Magnus started to fade.

"Alec hold on, you said you'd never leave me. Please come back. I love you." Magnus's voice trailed off as he disappeared.

"See you can have your life with him. You can be happy." Raziel said.

"It's not real." Alec said, sadly.

"It can feel real. You just have to embrace it." Raziel motioned to a spot behind Alec.

Alec turned around and saw all of his friends and family. They called to him,  especially Magnus.

"You'll never fight. It'll be happy, always. You can go on living with them no longer in pain or fearful of what might happen. You can be married, start a family, be accepted." Raziel waved his arm and Alec saw all of those things and he wanted to take the offer. He sighed. Raziel offered the perfect life; didn't Alec deserve happiness? Hadn't he suffered enough?

"But what about my family?" Alec asked finally.

"They are fine. They'll move on with their lives I assure you." Alec knew that Raziel said that to help make his decision easier but it hit like a ton of feathers; nice from the look of it but crushing in reality.

"No, I need to get back to them. You promised to help me, so do it or get out of my way." Alec demanded.

Raziel smiled. "Alexander Gideon Lightwood, you are as brave as you are stupid but I will assist you. Know that once we leave here you can never come back. If it doesn't work you will be cast out into purgatory til the end of time."

"Then make sure it works." Alec declared.
