Warning: Get some tissues ready. And I'm sorry...

"Alec?!" Jace ran to them and sank to the ground clutching his chest. "Alec, please-"Jace's words broke off into a scream.

"Jace, what's wrong?" Izzy touched his shoulder, but she already knew the answer, they all did. Alec was dead. The parabatai bond had broken.

"The girl," Magnus choked out. "Get her and then we'll figure this out."

"Help Alec. Hurry!" Izzy demanded, shaking Magnus's shoulders. "Bring him back!"

"I can't!" Magnus shouted and they all had matching looks of sadness. "Get the girl."

Clary ran over to the cage and Magnus lifted her slowly. "Make sure you don't touch the cage."

"Okay." Clary flew into the cage, wrapped her arms around the girl, and went back to the group.

Magnus, without letting go of Alec's hand, ran his fingers over the girl. "She's sleeping. We'll get back to my place and wake her up."

Magnus created a portal.

"Simon, can you?" Jace groaned. He never imagined being in such pain without being physically hurt.

"Sure." Simon hoisted Jace up and let him wrap an arm around his shoulders. Together they led the group into the portal. Clary carried the little girl and Izzy looked back at Alec and Magnus.

"Go on." Magnus pushed her through and closed the portal.

He looked down at Alec's lifeless body and dropped his head until his forehead rested on Alec's. He didn't care that there were tears streaming down his face; all he cared about was Alec.

"Please, Alexander, I need you. I know it's selfish; I should say that the world needs you but I frankly don't care. Your family needs you to come back. You promised me that you wouldn't leave me; you promised." Magnus hit Alec's chest in anger and pain. "Please, don't make me go on without you. Not like this. I need you. I love you."

Magnus kissed his forehead. "What am I supposed to do now? Everything in my life has changed to our plans. I am lost without you."

Magnus clutched Alec's body against him and he rocked them both as he cried.

----

"Where's Magnus?" Jace asked from the couch where he was sitting. It felt like he was dying himself which made sense because half of him had.

"He didn't come through." Izzy sank to the floor and covered her face with her hands. Clary set the girl down on a couch and sat with Izzy. She wrapped her arms around her and brushed her fingers through her hair.

"It's going to be okay." Clary whispered.

"He's gone. My brother is gone." Izzy sobbed.

Jace was going to say something but then he remembered what Alec had said. He got up and mumbled something about going to the bathroom, but he went to Alec and Magnus's room. He went to the nightstand on Alec's side and opened the drawer.

There was a letter with Jace's name on it. Jace pulled it out and yanked it open so hard that he almost ripped it in half.

Jace,

If you're reading this then I'm gone. I'm sorry for the pain that you must be feeling. Please forgive me.

"I don't care about the fucking pain." Jace muttered then continued reading.

I have been having this same dream for the past couple of months. I know I should have told someone but I just knew that I couldn't. I saw my own death. I touched a cage in the sky and died, but it was the only way to save her, Madzie. I'm not sure how I know her name, but say her name and she'll wake.

A demon is looking for her still; keep her safe until I come back. And trust me brother, I am coming back.

Love, Alec

P.s. Tell Izzy I'm sorry and love her.

P.s.s. Give Magnus a kiss for me and tell him I love him. Tell him to not try anything. I have a plan.

"Jace, what is that?" Izzy asked from the hallway. It was as if she was afraid to walk into the room.

Jace looked up at her with tears streaming down his face. "He knew what was going to happen."

"What?" Izzy cursed and ripped the letter out of Jace's hands. "How could he?"

"He knew he had to go through with it." Jace shrugged. "If he had told us we wouldn't have let him go."

"Damn straight, we wouldn't." Izzy declared. "What does he mean about a plan?"

"I don't know." Jace touched her hand and pulled her into a hug. "Iz, it's going to be okay. We need to get Magnus here."

"Do you really think he'll be back? He isn't dead?" Izzy whispered as if afraid to ask or hear the answer.

"Yes, weboth know Alec is stubborn enough that if he decides that he's coming back, he'll be back." Jace rubbed her back then pulled away. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and called Magnus.

"What is it?" Magnus spit out at him.

"Bring Alec to your house. I need to show you something." Jace demanded and when Magnus didn't respond he continued, "Alec knew this was going to happen. He left a letter. He had a plan."

"It clearly didn't work." Magnus's sorrow cut through Jace's chest like a knife.

"It will. He knew he was going to die. He said that he was going to come-" Jace's words were cut off by the sudden shift in the room.

Magnus leapt out of the portal and ripped the letter from his hands. "Give me."

"That bastard." Magnus shook his head.

"Is there a way?" Izzy asked him.

"If there is I can assure you that Alec will find it." Magnus declared. "And if not then we will. Get these books from my library." He thrust a list into Izzy's hand.

"Jace, get me some tea and my slippers." Magnus waved them both away and started flipping through a book as he sat down on his bed. "Now, what were you thinking Alexander?"

----

"Hello?" Alec called out into the darkness. He shivered from the cold as he wrapped his arms around himself. He had never felt so alone or scared. It felt like he had been in this dark world for days, but he knew it had to be closer to an hour. What if he had made a mistake?

"Took you long enough?" A voice called out as a light slowly appeared showing Alec a path. He walked towards the light and felt the warmth returning to his body.

A/N So? What did you think? I personally didn't kill Alec; the cage did. *scared smile* But, he'll be back. It's going to be okay! I promise; I hope...

It's going to be great though. Love you all! Thank you for voting, commenting, and reading. Thanks in advance for trusting me with this storyline.
