Ever since Gio and I's little steamy moment, I hadn't gotten a chance to visit him again for more than a week. I had been extremely busy with handling the restaurant stuff including trying to organize that party for that family which Dominic had handed over to me. In addition, I had wanted to strangle both Gio and Dominic. Firstly Gio, because he had marked me as if I was his property or something, and secondly Dominic, because he brought up the fact that I had a hickey every chance he got and saw me for that week.

Regarding me helping with the organization of things for the event, I had no idea that the party would have been that short noticed. It was an anniversary party for a middle-aged couple. They had booked the entire restaurant for that evening and so the other staff and I had worked really hard to make sure that everything was to the couple's liking. Who would have thought that helping to organize an event like that would've been so stressful?

After a week of trying to prepare for that event, I could only hope that everything would be perfect for the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt was a very friendly and nice couple, they were celebrating 16 years of marriage. They had called me right after Dominic had given them my number, then they visited me at the restaurant to settled things and checked out the place in advance.

On the night of the party, the moment it had started and was in full swing, I decided to take a break and headed to my office. I guessed that maybe I wasn't cut out for events organizing because I had felt absolutely exhausted. I went and laid down on the sofa that was in my office and decided to rest my eyes for a few minutes.
I must have fallen asleep despite the loud music that had been playing because I was awakened by my cellphone which rang nonstop. By the time I jumped up to answer it, it had stopped. I sat up and reached for it just as it rang once again. I looked at the caller's ID and saw that it was Marc.

“Marc?” I answered.

“Lexi, where are you?” He sounded a bit frantic.

“At the restaurant, there's an anniversary party I have to supervise. Why?” I asked cautiously.

“Look, I need you to be safe and keep your eyes open for anything strange. Dominic has been shot and...” He began but I cut him off.

“What!? Shot!? When? Is he alright? Where is he!?”

“Lexi! Lexi calms down. He's fine, luckily the bullet only grazed his side. He's at home now, Dr. Lee is attending to him” he told me.

Dr. Lee was our family's personal doctor who also dealt with anything that happened to any member of the group. Long story short, he was well aware of our family being in the mafia.

“What happened?” I sighed, a bit relieved that he wasn't seriously hurt.

“We're not sure. He was shot at home, so we believe it must have been by a traitor in the family. The thing is we're not quite sure as yet because the shooter managed to escape” he said.

“What? What was he doing home? Wasn't he supposed to be at the hotel?” I asked.

“Yeah, but he must've come back to get something from here”.

“So what about cameras, have you guys checked the footage to see who it might've been?”

“We're searching that at the moment, but I just wanted you to have a heads-up. I'll keep you updated when we find more information. Your parents are on their way here now, but you be safe” he told me.

“Okay, do that, and I will” I replied before he hung up.

I got up and made sure that I took my gun from inside my bag and tucked it into the waistband at the back of my jeans. If there was a traitor on the loose who just tried to kill their boss, who knew what else that person could have been up to, especially since we had no idea who the hell he was as yet. I was determined not to take any chances.
