When the doctor came into the room my neck moved so quickly that I could hear the snap.

"Hi I'm Dr.Amble."

"Hi." She glanced at Xavier and me, her eyes fixating on our interlaced hands.

"Are you two his parents?" I blushed crimson and Xavier smirked slightly.

"No. I'm his older sister and this is-"

"I'm her boyfriend." I didn't even blink an eye, because that's exactly what I was going to say. Better he did it than me.

"Where are your parents?"

"His father isn't involved. Our mom is working long hours- we won't be able to reach her." The woman seemed to accept that before looking down at the bundle in my arms.

"I want to examine him if that's alright with you." I nodded.

"Go right ahead." She smiled before unwrapping the blankets revealing the pale, drenched and shivering Jason. Before she touched him, he let out a deep, gut wrenching cough and cried out in pain.

"Charlie-"

"Shhhh mi amor. It's alright. Don't worry." I rubbed his back, trying to get him to sit up as he kept coughing. Dr.Amble began examining him and I tried to read her expression but it was like trying to read a brick wall. Nothing.

"Okay, I want to take some blood work."

"That's fine. What's wrong with him?"

"I want to get the blood work before saying anything." She left the room quickly and I licked my lips, getting more nervous by the second. Checking the time, I saw it was close to twelve thirty. I felt awful, making Xavier stay out this late. I think he felt my eyes on him because he turned slightly and I knew he could see right through my strong façade.

"What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" I could feel my face heating up from the compliment.

"I feel bad, you're out here. What are your parents going to say?" His eyes darkened at the mention of his parents and I wondered if I had misspoken.

"Ah-nothing. They don't mind." I nodded, anxious to get rid of the topic.

"Okay." He gave me a small smile, grateful that I didn't press any questions. What Xavier didn't know, was that I understood what it was like to want privacy, especially with the topic of parents.

"Want me to take Ryan home?" I thought about his proposal.

"Would you do that?" He gave me a small dimpled grin.

"I'd do anything for you guys."  I sighed gratefully and handed him my car keys. Then, my mother popped into my mind. She would most likely come home drunk within the next few hours. Xavier knew too much about my family, I didn't want him learning more.

"Actually, would you mind taking him to your place?" His eyebrows furrowed, obviously in confusion.

"Why?"

"Just can you?" I think he heard my desperation and agreed.

"Definitely."

"Thank you." He kissed me on the forehead before getting up and letting go of my hand.

"Okay, I'll get him up and get him to bed. The poor kid's going to be exhausted tomorrow."

"You'll be too. I'm really thankful you're doing this Xavier. You don't know how much it means to me." He shrugged.

"Don't worry about it. Keep me updated." It wasn't a request- it was a demand.

"Absolutely. Here's my number." Without giving it a second thought, I scribbled my number on his hand using a pen from the table. Then he brushed the hair off of Jason's forehead one last time.

"Feel better buddy." With that he walked out of the room to get Ryan. I sighed, but didn't feel calm for too long because Jason started coughing again, and each breath sounded painful. I patted him on the back and mentally wished I could take all of the discomfort away. I was beyond exhausted, not sleeping almost two days in a row, but I was running on pure adrenaline. I wasn't even going to think about closing my eyes until I knew that my baby brother was going to be okay.

Dr.Ambles came in, took his blood and left, not giving me a time limit as to when she'd be back. I wanted answers, but knew I had to wait. The clock ticked and the big hand slowly moved. Xavier texted me at one fifteen- I had completely forgotten that I had given him my number.

X: Just put Ryan on the couch- he's still sound asleep. I smiled even though he couldn't see, my heart filled with gratitude.

C: Thank you so much. Dr took Jason's blood and we're waiting for the results.

X: Any idea what's wrong?

C: Not a clue and it's driving me mad

X: Don't worry- Jason will be able to sense it and then he'll freak. Stay calm; the Dr's know what they're doing. I'm not going anywhere either.

C: Here she comes :/

X: Breathe

I looked up from my phone when she walked in.

"Jason has Pneumonia." My stomach started getting unpleasant feelings from the worry.

"So what's going to happen now?" She gripped the folder.

"On a scale of one to ten he's a case of 6. We're going to give him an anti-biotic that should work, but he'll be out of school for at least a week." I didn't even think about what was going to happen with school- I just sighed deeply, relieved.

"So he's going to be okay?" She nodded.

"Most likely yes. Just keep a careful eye on him. We'll give him the dosage, monitor him for another the rest of the night and if he reacts positively, we'll get you guys home. " I gave her a tired smile.

"Thank you so much." She patted me on the shoulder.

"You're a wonderful older sister. How old are you?"

"I'm turning seventeen in December." Dr.Ambles raised her eyebrows, impressed.

"You're the most responsible sixteen year old I've seen in a while."

"Thank you." She adjusted the medicine on the counter.

"You're very welcome. Do you think you can sit him up for me?"

"I'll try." I pushed Jason upwards to sit him into the bed as she injected the IV into his arm. He winced lightly and I shushed him.

"Breathe mi amor." He looked up at me, but I knew he couldn't really see me. He was heavily medicated, feverish and coughing his heart out.

"I hate needles."

"I know, but it's going to make you better." He struggled to swallow before coughing deeply, breathing rapidly. Dr.Ambrose said goodbye and I thanked her again. Pulling out my phone, I called Xavier. He picked up immediately and spoke as soon as I hit .

"What's going on?"

"Pneumonia. He has an IV in right now. They're- um- keeping him for the night and- and we'll see what happens in the morning." I was stuttering from the pure reassurance that Jason was going to be okay."

"Thank god. I'll come by in the morning to pick you guys up- Ryan can come if he isn't still asleep."

"Xavier, I really appreciate what you did tonight. It meant more than you will ever know." I heard him chuckle tiredly on the other line.

"Trust me, I'm very glad I helped. If you ever need anything, just ask."

"Thank you."

"Anytime Butterfly."

"You should get some sleep." I heard him snort.

"So should you."

"I probably will."

"You better. Not sleeping isn't healthy." I laughed.

"Then go to bed nimrod." He sighed rather loudly.

"But see the thing is, I don't want to hang up on you."

"I don't want to hang up on you either. It's the man's job. Do it." There was a pause before Xavier whined,

"Finneeeeee. Just because I'm nice."

"Whatever makes you sleep at night Xav."

"Night."

"Night." There was a beeping signaling he had ended the call. I put my phone in my pocket with a smile on my face. Jason was sound asleep, the IV giving him the medication he needed to get better. Ryan was safe and sound asleep on Xavier's couch. I was much calmer than I had been and I was drifting off to sleep when....
