Kids were a handful.

You were able to, luckily enough, learn that rather quickly during your most recent job.

You, Juvia and Levy had decided to pick a simple offer ; babysitting the king's granddaughter and her friends, in order to get some quick money.

But, what should have ended up being a fairly easy task, ended up actually being a catastrophe.

The place, that formerly was spotless, was now completely covered in dirt and the proper and calm kids you had been introduced to were no longer present.

-

Here you were, currently, being bullied by 7 year old children who you were supposed to be watching over.

After playing outside for awhile (hence the dirt), they decided to switch their target from the room to the three of you.

And so, you were now playing cops and robbers.

Or, at least what should have been cops and robbers.

The three of you were tied up to wooden chairs and were held hostage by the kids at water gun point.

You were still somehow afraid even though you knew the weapons only contained water.

"Remember the reward. Remember the reward," you repeated to yourself completely soaked.

Once you were released, you all played a very intense session of tag.

They were simply out of control due to knowing the layout of the place and Levy even ended up losing a kid she was chasing in the house.

Luckily, after some food bribing, you and Juvia managed to get them to behave.

Well, mostly Juvia.

You also forced them to apologize to Levy, who under the stress, started to cry.

They apologized sincerely which surprised you which made you feel a teensy bit sorry.

Juvia however didn't have an ounce of empathy and it was really amusing to watch her scold them so sternly.

She was right though.

After awhile, you all ended up getting along after you mentioned Levy's interest in books.

They all happened to like fantasy stories and you were now able to hold a conversation with them.

You shared your favorite fairy tales and read the ones that they didn't know about. Juvia joined in from time to time but she mostly cried over some of the love stories ending and you consoled her everytime.

"When I'm older, I'm going to be a knight and I'll save my own princess!" One of them said.

You smiled and ruffled her head.

"I'm sure you will! You've just gotta train super hard!"

Another one sat on your lap, playing with a strand of your hair.

"Read us another one, big sister Y/N!"

-

You had just finished seeing off the children and was now heading back to the guild.

You walked in and saw Master sitting on his usual sit conversing with Macao.

Upon seeing you walking near they chuckled at your unkept appearance.

"Oh my! What happened?"

You sighed loudly, "Kids,"

"I'm guessing the job didn't go smoothly," said Macao pating your back.

"It did! We just struggled a bit at first, but it ended well," you admitted, flustered.

Mirajane came from upstairs to welcome you back.

She then gave you the reward and you listened to her ramble about what you had missed back at the guild.

You occasionally laughed and cringed while listening.

"Thanks Mira," you thanked her genuinely and started to walk away.

"You're leaving?"

"Juvia and Levy are waiting for me outside. Do you need me to do something?"

She shook her head smiling.

She waved you goodbye and you quickly rushed out of the hall, taking a deep breath once you made it to the street.

"Are you ready to go Y/N?" Juvia asked leaned on the concrete wall of the guild.

You nodded and saw Levy standing beside her. You all walked together to head home.

"Sorry for not being that helpful guys..," Levy's head was brought down and you could she felt bad.

You smiled and shook her shoulders.
"Don't worry about it Levy! We made it out alive at least,"

"Did we?" Juvia laughed.

As you were parting ways you had the feeling that you had forgotten something but you kept to yourself in order to not cause a scene.

Please tell me, I didn't lose it!

"Well then, we'll see you around YN!" said Juvia training you out of your thoughts.

You gave each of them a hug and watched as they left you behind. Once they were far enough you removed every item from your bag and searched in your pockets.

Damn it!

You really had lost it. Now what? At this rate you had decided to go back on your footsteps to hopefully find it.

You looked around the guild feverishly and got a few stares as a result.

It wasn't at the bar, and not around the tables.

You had to look closely.

"Y/N? What are you looking for?"

You turned around rapidly and stood up
"Oh! Hey Gajeel. I just lost a dumb thing that's all,"

"Huh. You look really stupid looking on the ground like this."

You groaned, "Thanks."

He sat down on a chair nearby and watched you struggle around again.

After a minute or two, he stood up, pushed your shoulder and grinned before walking away. "Good luck with finding your thing,"

You huffed and waved him goodbye.

10 minutes had passed and you were getting nowhere. It wasn't here.

You went back to the king's granddaughter place but realized that you hadn't brought your bag there.

You continued looking around and even though a huge part of you was sure you weren't going to find it, you still tried.

-

More time had passed and just as you were about to give up a looming flying figure appeared.

Happy smiled at you and rested on your shoulder.

"Are you lost, Y/N?"

"Nah, don't worry. I'm just trying to find something I lost" you smiled back to him and ruffled his head.

"Do you want me to help? I could give you a view from above!"

You chuckled, "That would be super nice of you, Happy!"

You and the Exceed flew over the town for a few minutes until you remembered another a possible place.

You felt bad for dragging Happy along and so you thanked him and told him that it was probably at your place.

Once he dropped you off, you continued on your way to a certain alley where had been hiding from the kids while playing tag.

And low and behold, there it was on the ground waiting for you to come back.

"There you are!"

You picked up the small item and dusted the dirt off. You were extremely lucky.

It was a bit scratched and was still dirty, but you would try to clean it to the best of your abilities.

"Time to go home."

As you advanced further away from the alley, happy that you had been able to find the item, you felt a droplet fall on your face.

Shit.

Of course it had to rain now. You quickly hid next to a building sitting down to avoid getting wet.

You sat down and hummed softly, watching cars passing by. You wondered how long you'd have to wait out here.

You knew C/N could survive without you, but you really just wanted to go home.

And so, to pass time, you started thinking.

A lot. About everything. You were proud of the progress you had done over the last couple of months.

Your apartment was looking somewhat better and your magic had become even more stable than before thanks to Natsu 's help.

"Good job Y/N..."

You sighed. How long was the rain going to last?

You looked at the streets. Magnolia was, as always, extremely pretty. There weren't a lot of people and the smell of the wet concrete put your mind at ease.

You put your head back on your knees.

You could faintly hear footsteps near you. Fair enough since it was a street. But they were inching closer to your shivering figure.

So you looked around, not seeing anyone and was going back to staring at your knees.

That is until you saw him.

It wasn't hard to miss his presence after all.

His cloak flew, covering your view of the street. And now he was right there in front of you.

Your heart was beating fast you almost felt like he could see it leap out of your chest. You weren't prepared for this.

You both stared at eachother, the rain, who had previously been freezing, suddenly enveloping you with warmth.

The raindrops went down his face when he talked. And you were absolutely mesmerized.

He spoke out tenderly, his mouth gaped open slightly.

"Mind if I take refuge out here too?"
