Hannah's POV

---------------------

I waited till Olivia was asleep to call Ace.

I didn't want to threaten him, but he made the wrong move by isolating me from my friends. Before, I was upset, but now? I'm fucking pissed. He cannot tell me to leave him and everything behind, yet still try to dictate my fucking life.

As soon as he gave me her number, I immediately called Sarah. I didn't give a rats ass that it was the middle of the night and I doubt she would either. It rang for a few seconds before she finally picked up.

"Hannah?!"

"Sarah." I immediately let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh my gosh, are you okay? Where are you? I'll come get your right now. I don't know who that son of a bitch thinks he is but I swear to god I'll kill him my fucking self if you're stuck on the street-"

"Sarah, Sarah, calm down." I cut her off. "I'm okay."

"I'm glad you're okay, but the situation isn't. He had no fucking right to do that shit to you."

"I know, but it's over and done with now."

"Where are you?"

"I came back to California, I'm with Olivia." I immediately heard her sigh. I couldn't tell if it was out of relief or frustration, but I'm guessing a little bit of both.

"Hannah, I love you, and I'm happy you got to see your friend again, but you shouldn't have gone back there."

"Why? If anything happens I can defend myself."

"I know, but that's the problem."

"Thats supposed to be a bad thing?"

"Would you have defended yourself before you joined the mafia?" She asked. "Hannah, you've told me stories of the person you were before. You've changed since then, in many good ways, but also in other ways. You are used to being endangered and surrounded by people who know what you're involved in. If someone is being suspicious, your first instinct isn't going to be normal, it's going to be skilled, smart, and tactical. It would be out of character for the Hannah that the people around you know, and they would begin to question you and where you actually were."

She was right. Before, if someone was acting suspicious, I would've tried to get away and find someone I know. Now, I wouldn't hesitate to reach for my knife and confront them. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but I know it would definitely scare the shit out of the people who know me.

"How do I just leave, Sarah?" It would kill Olivia. She just got me back.

"I don't know." She sighed. "I'm not saying you have to leave, just be careful. You also can't forget that you played a major part in a war that still hasn't ended. There will most likely be people after you."

"Do you think they would harm my friends?" I didn't want to leave, but I would pack my shit and go this very second if they were in danger. I heard her talking to someone and shuffling before a deeper voice started talking.

"Hey, Hannah, it's Ben."

"Hey, how is he?"

"Fucking psychotic." That was a new one. Ben is normally the only one to advocate for Ace, but even he seems pissed.

"What happened?"

"Well, when Sarah found out you left she kind of-"

"Bravely defended you against the big bad mafia don!" She shouted in the background, cutting him off.

"By that, she means she attacked him and pressed all of his buttons until he held a gun to her head." He grumbled.

"Ace did what?!"

"Yeah."

"Are you guys okay?"

"We're fine, it's just tense right now." Sarah would've told me more, but Ben wouldn't budge.

"Anyways, to answer your question from earlier, I highly doubt they would mess with your friends. They may bluff about killing them, even hold a knife to their throat, but they won't kill innocent people unless there's a good reason. It's against everyones code of honor."

"I think we're all way past the point of honor codes..."

"True, but that's still a strong belief. This war is between the main four heirs. However, if that code is broken and other mafias find out, they would quickly side against them. Jack wouldn't be in a fight with heirs anymore, it'd be official dons. He's stupid, but no one is that dumb."

"Okay, good."

"Well, I'll let you finish talking to Sarah." He says before theres shuffling and the phone is handed back to her.

"Hang on a sec." She whispers while I hear her moving. A door closes before she responds again, but she's still whispering. "Okay, I'm back."

"Where did you go?"

"My closet. I have to tell you what's going on but Ben didn't want me to upset you."

"Why would I be upset?..." I trailed off, assuming the worse.

"Because Ace's pussy ass has us all on lockdown. All we're allowed to do is train and sleep. We can't even refer to him by his name anymore, just 'don'."

"Why the fuck would he do that?"

"Who knows? My guess is because he has a stick shoved so far up his ass its tickling his brain and killing the cells up there."

"At this point I think you might be right."

"Yeah. Anyways, Ace flew Annika and Cixi to the house yesterday."

"What?" My heart stopped as soon as I heard Cixi's name. Don't get me wrong, I know she's nice, but I also know they have a history.

"Is she sleeping with him?"

"I wouldn't be surprised..." Ouch.

"Why are they there anyways?"

"I don't know, I think he has a plan to end the war, though."

I know I should be happy that he's ending the war, but deep down it scared me. Without the war, he doesn't need me. When its over he'll probably pull his guards off of me and it won't be gone before I'm just a girl of his past. To say it hurt would be an understatement. It felt like there was a pit in my stomach that was going to swallow me from the inside out.

"Do they know? About me leaving?"

"Yeah. Annika seemed pissed but Cixi seemed as though she expected it."

"Shit."

"Yeah." We were both silent for a moment before I heard someone knock on a door in the background on her side. "Fuck, I gotta go, but I'll keep you posted!"

"Thanks."

"Bye, love you, call me if you need anything."

"I will, love you too." As soon as I finished she quickly hung up.

Forty eight hours.

Forty eight hours ago I was falling asleep in Ace's arms. Now we're done, I'm all the way on the other side of America, and he's moved on. It feels like it's been months, yet it's barely been two days. I wish it could only get better from here, but I feel like we haven't even hit rock bottom yet.

I tossed and turned for hours in Olivia's guest bedroom, but I hardly got any sleep. The only thing that ever helped me sleep before, were his arms around me. Now all I could think about were his arms around her.

I just don't understand. How could he throw that all away? All it took was three words. Eight letters, one phrase. He took care of me, he fought for me, he killed for me. How could he expect me not to fall for him when he's all I ever wanted?

I know it sounds stupid and cheesy, but I've always dreamed of the classic "ride or die" relationship. I was down for anything with Ace. I never killed anyone, I never had to, but I would've done it in a heartbeat if his life was on the line. Hell, he did kill for me. I just can't wrap my head around how he could act like he was in love with me, but not be.

When the sun rose the next morning, I was still awake. Last night was when it finally set in that he was gone for good. I was finally able to curl up in a ball and just let it all out. I wouldn't of left the bed if I had a choice, but I had to. My life still had to go on. He's my moon; there will always be half of my heart that will love him in the dark, but I can never love him in the sun again.

When I went to the kitchen that morning, Olivia's maid, Carla, had just finished breakfast. Carla was happy to see that I was back, and I was happy to have her cooking again. Olivia's parents were always on business trips, so she was left alone a lot. She has a ton of friends, but the only people she's really close with are me and Carla.

I had just finished three pancakes, a bow of fruit, and all of the bacon when Olivia finally came downstairs. Her blonde curls were all over the place and there was still a little mascara under her eyes that she missed when taking her makeup off.

"well good morning, sunshine." I smiled.

"Shut the fuck up." She mumbled as she sat down next to me. The doorbell rang and Olivia's eyes immediately shot to me. "I'm not dressed, go answer the door."

"I'm not dressed either, plus, I'm your guest." She glared at me before we both turned our attention to Carla, who was standing at the counter as she sipped a cup of coffee and read a newspaper. She felt us staring as the doorbell rand again and immediately looked to us.

"What? I'm paid to cook and clean, not answer the damn door." She shrugged before going back to her paper. The person at the door clearly got impatient as they started to press the button over and fucking over.

"Fine." I groaned, standing up. I walked towards the entry way and held my middle finger up as Olivia and Carla smirked.

"What the fu-" I was cut off by the person on the other side of the door as I opened it.

"Hannah?!" He looked like he saw a ghost.

"Jake."

"You're back?!"

"I'm back." I smiled.

Before I even realized what was happening, he pulled me to him and smashed his lips to mine.

Oh shit.
