A S P E N ' S P O V

It had been about a week from that night and me and Dalton still haven't spoken. He had continued to reach out to me and even came to the apartment a few times.

I had texted him a few times but it had been short and sort of dry. I didn't want to meet him right now and just wanted to take some time to process this big topic floating around in my head.

I had planned on speaking to him today but I needed some time before anything. I don't know why but something about today just felt...off.

I was laying in bed, watching Netflix as I tried not to think about the whole situation. I was caught off guard by my phone loudly ringing from somewhere lost in my sheets.

I looked up from the TV, searching around on my messy bed for my phone. I finally found it, hoping it wasn't Dalton calling.

I felt slightly relieved as I saw Livi's name flash up on the screen with a facetime. It also showed me how horribly exhausted I looked. I answered, hoping she somehow didn't notice my horrible looks.

"Hey, sis!" She greeted, smiling into the phone as she adjusted the sunglasses on her face.

Cole had decided to surprise Livi and take her to a romantic private island he had found. Livi was apparently living her best life as she stayed with Cole along with their little addition to the family.

They had also decided that Livi and Cole would be moving into this nice modern mansion once they got back. By the time they got back she would be about 5-6 months pregnant and in no condition to be driving back and forth between houses.

"Hey." I smiled, trying to make myself look more presentable. "How's married life?"

"It's great." She beamed, looking like she was glowing as she bit her lip in excitement. "Along with our precious little bean of course."

"Cole still wants twins?" I laughed, causing her to roll her eyes as she tried to hold back a smile.

"Yes, sadly. I don't think he understands I'll have to push two babies out back to back. I can only handle one at a time." She scoffed as I heard Cole say something from beside her.

"Cole says hey." She added, moving the camera to show Cole relaxing on a beach chair, his hand resting on Livi's belly. "Ok, I've avoided it enough. What's wrong?"

I was slightly taken aback by her question, thinking she had forgotten about it all. I tried to avoid it by changing the subject but she simply glared at me.

"Fine." I sighed, rubbing my temples as I sat up more. "Dalton got drafted to a football team in New York and I think he wanted me to come with him."

She gasped, lifting up her glasses and staring as if she was trying to make sure she heard me correctly. She took a deep breath before settling back against her chair.

"What did you say?" She asked, biting her lip nervously this time as she looked at her nails.

"Nothing. I just asked him to drive me home after that." I told her, watching her shake her head and roll her eyes.

She just glared at me, making me feel worse just by her stare. I knew she was about to get on me for whatever I did so I just tried to brace myself for Livi's irritation.

"You have to learn to communicate with him, Aspen. You both won't benefit from anything if you just keep running away from the main issue at hand." She stated, looking at me seriously as she spoke.

"What am I supposed to do now? How are we just supposed to have a conversation like that?" I frowned, my thoughts running at a mile a minute.

"Aspen, I don't know and I don't care. But you aren't going to get anything out of hiding in your room ignoring him and crying. Talk to him." She told me, a genuine look on her face as she looked at me.

I sat in the kitchen, my head laying on the island as my mom and Scarlet stood in front of me.

Why am I always in this position?

"Dalton, why didn't you tell us about this before?" Scarlet frowned, crossing her arms as she looked at me.

"Because I wanted to wait. How am I supposed to tell any of you guys that I got drafted to a team across the damn country?" I looked up in distraught, feeling my heart pang at my words.

"But we could have figured something out. You didn't have to hide it from us." Mom frowned, smiling sympathetically at me.

"I'm proud of you regardless, son. You knew what you wanted and you went for your dream. Don't let this stop you now." Dad smiled, patting my shoulder as he gave me an optimistic look.

"But this isn't my dream, Dad. Yes, I wanted to go pro but not for a team across the country and hundreds of miles away from my family." I reluctantly said, looking up at him with a glum look.

I paused for a moment, take a breather as this conversation was getting kind of overbearing. I knew they were happy for me but deep down didn't want me to go too far from home.

I looked up at them to see them share a look with each other before looking back at me. Scarlet fiddled with the strings on her romper before she spoke.

"How's Aspen taking it?"

"She isn't." I mumbled.

"What do you mean?" Mom asked.

"She hasn't spoken to me since the other night at dinner when she found out. I haven't seen her in a week." I breathed out, running my fingers through my hair.

"Why hasn't she spoken to you? It's not your fault you got picked for that team." Mom frowned, her motherly instincts kicking in.

"It was just a small misunderstanding, Mom." I told her before she could get too crazy about anything.

"Well, you both need to talk about things. Nothing good comes from a relationship with bad communication. Try to get her to you out from your side then hear her out." Dad told me, looking down at me seriously.

"I'll try but she hasn't been answering my calls or anything." I told them, hearing Scarlet sigh.

"Do you know her number?" She asked, looking at me hopefully.

"Yeah, why?"

"Just call her from my phone. Maybe she'll pick up."

I looked at the phone for a moment as I thought over the idea. I hesitated for a moment before reaching forward and grabbing her phone.

I went upstairs to my room and shut the door, making sure no one had followed me. I love my family but they were entirely too nosy for their own good.

I went to Scarlet's call log and typed in Aspen's number. I put in the digits that I knew by heart before putting the receiver up to my ear, hoping that she would just pick up the phone.

It rang for a moment before she picked up the phone, the sound of breathing coming through for a moment. Then, I felt my heart beat faster as I heard her soft voice come through.

"Hello?"

I paused for a moment before answering. "Aspen?"

"Dalton?" She paused, sounding nervous when she heard my voice. "Why are you calling?"

"Before you hang up, please just hear me out. I'll tell you everything just can you please meet me at my house in about an hour." I asked, hoping she would agree and we could get over this rough patch.

I could tell she was hesitating over her answer as the line went silent. She didn't say anything as she seemingly thought over her answer.

"Ok." She whispered, making me smile widely at the thought of being able to see her again. "I'll see you later."

"Thank you." I spoke as she hummed before hanging up the phone.

I sighed and threw my head back against my door as I felt relieved. Everything was going to come together again and me snd Aspen would finally be okay again.

"Aspen, get your ass up!" Vita yelled as I laid in a blanket, balled up on the couch.

Ah, the deja vu.

Vita had heard the entire conversation between me and Dalton and was now trying to force me to get up and go.

I was scared.

What if this was it for us?

I don't want this good thing to come to an end so quickly. I didn't want it to end at all.

I loved Dalton more than anything and wanted to stay with him until we both grew old. He was a chapter in my life that I never wanted to close.

So, I have to fix this.

"Fine." I groaned, throwing the blanket against the back of the couch as I got up.

I walked into my room and grabbed a random hoodie sitting on my desk chair and pulled it over my tank top. I adjusted my shorts before slipping on my crocs.

I jogged down the hall and grabbed my keys, slipping my phone in my back pocket. I waved to Vita before rushing out of the apartment.

I jogged down the stairs, accidentally bumping into a few girls on the stairway. I excused myself before making my way outside, looking around the parking lot so I could spot my beautiful baby.

I walked over to my gorgeous car, running my hand along the hood before sliding into the driver side. I felt up the wheel, feeling like I hadn't drove in a while as I turned my car on.

I placed my seatbelt on, putting Dalton's address in the GPS. I made my way out of the parking lot, playing some music lightly as I tried to get myself out of this funk I was in.

I was just so happy that me and Dalton were gonna talk things through again. I hated not seeing him everyday and not getting to be held in his arm.

I'm actually sort of glad he called me from that unknown number. I'm also glad that Vita forced me to say yes to him instead of hiding away from him in my apartment like a coward.

I stopped at a red light, tapping my nails on the wheel as I patiently waited for it to turn green. I started humming to the music, remembering how me and Dalton used to take late night drives.

Just as the light was about to turn green, my phone dinged. I looked down and saw it was message and opened it thinking it was from Dalton. The light then turned green just as it opened.

I drove off slowly and read the message at the same time, feeling confused by what it said.
