Pancakes From Phoenix

The night didn't go well.

After another movie we all went to bed....well except me.

I tried

Laid down in bed, let the tiredness take over, but I didn't even last 30 minutes before I woke up screaming.

Yes, screaming

The nightmares only seem to be getting worse.

Finn came to my door knocking like his life depended on it, and after reassuring him I was fine multiple times he finally left.

Only to come back minutes later with hot chocolate and cookies and a more prominent worry line than before.

I took his offering and tried to usher him away, but he wouldn't budge.

Resulting in him falling asleep in my bed while I sat in the chair.

I don't think he meant to fall asleep, based off him constantly shaking himself awake only to start falling asleep again. I guess exhaustion took over eventually and he finally fell asleep.

He's a peaceful sleeper, and what a shock when I found out he doesn't sleep with a scowl on his face.

I read in the armchair for majority of the time he slept, making sure to be quiet so I didn't wake him up.

Once the sun started to rise and it was about an hour before our classes started, I heard some banging in the kitchen.

Now although Lena usually cooks, judging by how loud whoever it is, is being, I doubt its her.

I quietly leave the room, leaving my book on the chair as I tiptoe out of the room and down the hallway.

And sure enough Phoenix stands in the middle of the kitchen being loud as can be.

"Hey Jade, how'd you sleep!"

Umm I didn't

He keeps whisking whatever's in a bowl in front of him, "what are you making?"

He smiles big, "Pancakes, I make the best ones ever and they'll change your life!"

Although I very much doubt that I smile and nod as I make my way to the stools.

After sitting he looks up to me, "soooooo, what's going on with you and Finn?"

"What," I ask confused.

He uses his hand to motion to the air — the hand with the whisk in it spraying pancake batter all over.

"Opps," he looks at his mess and shrugs his shoulders. "Anyway, you know what I mean, what's going on with you two? I mean there's obvious tension and he looks like he'll beat anyone who touches you to a bloody pulp, but how do you feel?"

He looks at me excited, almost jittery as he waits for my answer.

Weirdo

"I like him."

He leans forward over the counter, "yeah but do you like him like him."

I frown, "Like more than a friend?"

He nods excitingly, "yes!"

I give him a small nod, "then yes I guess I like him like him."

Phoenix beams and starts twirling around in the kitchen, muttering things under his breath.

Maybe Phoenix needs help.....mental help.

They tried to make me see a therapist after I escaped but.....I never went.

I mean I wasn't even talking to anyone, what help would a therapist be.

The headmaster did mentioned seeing someone when we first met, but he didn't say it again, and its not like I'm going to mention it.

Phoenix stops his little happy dance and turns back to his pancakes, pouring the batter onto the pan.

Minutes later a throat clears from the entrance of the kitchen, and I turn my head to find Finn, a scowling Finn.

He glares at Phoenix but moves to sit right next to me on the stools, leaning down to whisper something in my ear, "why'd you let me fall asleep?"

Why's he so angry about falling asleep, I mean I would kill to go to sleep without a nightmare.

I mean....I do kill regardless, but you know what I mean.

"You looked tired," I respond with a shrug.

Apparently, that wasn't the right answer because he scowls even more, "you shouldn't have let me sleep if you were going to stay awake, let alone not even wake me when you left the room."

This is kind of a stupid argument.

I mean what kind of logic is that, not sleeping because I'm not.

I shrug, turning away from him.

I'm not going to apologize to him over it, I mean its not like I'm going to stop him from going asleep in the future.

He's about to say something else but a plate is set in front of me, "there you go beautiful, eat up you'll need the energy."

What will I need the energy for?

I ignore the second part of his comment and mutter a thanks before starting on the pancakes, and wow he wasn't kidding when he said they were the best."

I moan with delight, causing a chuckle to come from Phoenix, "yeah I get that reaction a lot."

Is he still talking about the pancakes?

I look over and Finn is looking at Phoenix like he's picturing beating the shit out of him.

I elbow Finn in the stomach, and he swings his gaze to me, his eyes softening a little bit as his eyes roam my face.

Do I have something on it?

I wipe my face with my hand, brows furrowed but I don't find anything, and Finn's face transforms to a sweet smile.

I give him a small smile back as Phoenix loudly puts a plate in front of him, "eat, and stop looking at each other like that, it's making me jealous."

My face gets hot as I turn back to my food, eating as much as I can.

As I'm finishing Charlie, Callie, and Lena come down from their rooms and start eating their own food.

I finish and head to my room, getting dressed and ready to leave for school.

Finn exits his room the same time I do, and we wait for Charlie in the living room before heading out.

Time for school.

***

School was boring.

Finn and Charlie moved their seats in class to be next to mine, after Finn threatened the kid in front of me so Charlie could sit there, and he could sit next to me.

Poor kid

There was still nothing for me to grade so I just sat there and thought, earning me some weird glances from Finn.

The rest of my classes were more enjoyable but not by a lot. I'm not getting challenged with my classes and I think I'll just have to learn to be okay with that.

Now I'm in training and Jason looks like he wants to kill me.

I guess his meeting with the headmaster didn't go as he expected, and I smirk at the thought.

I sit in the main room once again watching all the other students throwing like shit but at least they've gotten a little better, and they look like they're actually listening to Jason's instruction this time.

I bet they didn't want to run again.

The students get up and get ready to go outside, something to do with joining another training group and as they all leave, I stay.

I go over to the targets and grab a set of knives throwing perfectly on every target. I do the same to the rest of them and turn around with a smirk and move to join the rest of the students outside, but I'm stuck in my tracks by a wide-eyed Lena.

Oh no

Mouth agape she points to the targets, to me, and back again, all while I try to keep control of the panic in my body.

"W.....what was that," she finally sputters out.

I try to stay calm but it's hard, "training."

Lena takes in a breath, "but....that was....wow!"

The initial panic starts to leave my body and I'm just left with a slightly uncomfortable feeling.

I give her a shy look, rubbing my neck, "do you think you could not tell our roommates about what you saw? I'm not ready to answer questions."

She smiles and nods, using her hand to mimic locking her lips and I smile, "thanks Lena."

She gives me a smile, "I was supposed to come in here and bring you out onto the field, so how about we go do that."

She points behind her and I smile, both of us walking out of the building together smiling.

Once we reach the field Finn makes his way over and gives us both a suspicious look.

I ignore him and focus on what asshole Jason is saying, something to do with a competition with our training groups.

Jason starts dividing both our groups in half and selecting teams as I slowly start walking away towards the bleachers.

"Stop right there Jade, you are included in this too."

I roll my eyes and continue walking towards the bleachers.

"Jade!"

I turn around and Jason is right there staring down at me.

Ugh asshole

"Yes Jason," I smile sweetly at him, and he looks like he's fuming.

"You are going to be involved in today's activity, do you understand," he seethes.

"No, why am I being involved?"

His face gets red in anger, "because you are a part of this class, therefore you will do the needed work in order to get a good grade."

I smile up at him, "Well, according to the headmaster, I don't need to do anything in this class but show up."

His jaw is tight, and I can hear him grinding it, still staring down at me until he turns around and storms off.

What was the point of that?

I sit on the bleachers and turn to the field, gaining a smirk from Lena and of course a scowl from Finn.

Lena and Finn are on the same team and once the competition starts its clear the teams aren't fair, probably because Finn and Lena dominate.

The competition is accuracy training with high speed targets, and the only people hitting the targets perfectly being Lena and Finn.

It doesn't take long and the competition is short, Jason yelling at everybody who does the most miniscule thing wrong.

He's very mad

Maybe I had just a little to do with that.

Once training is over, I grab my bag and start walking back to the housing building with Finn and Lena, all while Finn's staring at me and Lena smiles giddily.

We enter our apartment and Finn heads straight to his room.

Did I do something wrong?

Lena shakes her head as he walks away and gives me a sorry smile before heading to her own room.

Great, alone and confused
