The sounds of voices filter in from downstairs and my body immediately goes tense, looking away from the screen and towards the door. Callie lets out a sequel from besides me and springs up from the bed, "Come on Jade, time to meet your other roommates."

I don't really know how to feel about that sentence. I don't like people and I'm kind of nervous.

Although Callie doesn't press and ask questions, will these people?

I stand up and follow her out the door we make it to the upstairs balcony overlooking the floor below while Callie lets out a loud, "Good evening everybody, and welcome home." I look down at the people below and four sets of eyes stare back up at me. Callie then directs her outstretched arms to me, "Say hello to my new best friend and our new roommate, Jade."

There's a chorus of hello's from my new roommates and I respond with a small wave still a little uncomfortable with their undivided attention.

Callie leads me down the stairs and in front of the group, they're quite a beautiful group of people. "Hi, I'm Lena," a girl with long black hair greets me a amused smile on her face, her clothing is tight and black and resembles the outfits Cohen would put me in for missions, her eyes are a deep brown with little gold specs in them.

"I'm Phoenix," I turn towards the man with dark blonde hair, he wears a cocky smirk on his face as he greets me, his mischievous green eye's staring deeply into mine, he's tall probably 6'1 but his body is proportionate to his height, he's wearing jeans and a polo that fit his body perfectly and is very conventionally attractive with his golden boy smile.

"Nice to meet you Jade, I'm Charlie," he's only a couple inches taller than me so I'm guessing a 5'10, he doesn't give off the cocky player like Phoenix but seems more shy and reserved, he doesn't make a lot of eye contact as I take in his features, he has a soft face and small features but I can see a small jagged scar on his forehead, he wears light washed jeans and a blue t-shirt, he's holding binders, books, and folders in his hand, he definitely give off smart nerd but his body is very well built, his shirt isn't tight on him but his jeans hug his thighs tight, emphasizing the muscle in them.

"Finn," I look towards the grumbling man and my oh my is this man built, he's the tallest of the bunch and at least 6'4, he's wearing the same type of outfit as Lena but his look's even tighter leaving little to the imagination, his arm muscles look like they could rip his shirt in any second, the man looks like a tank. I take in the man in front of me, his dark brown hair that's shorter on the sides and longer up top, his hazel eyes look me over carefully almost analyzing me with a distasteful look on his face, his features are sharp but hold a captivating beauty to them. I wonder if everyone is this beautiful here.

I'm taken away from my thought by Lena, "Its so good to have another girl around here." I turn to her a beaming smile on her face, and I can't help but smile back, "I was just about to cook dinner, is there anything you want to have on your first night here," she questions. I shake my head no, I don't have very much experience with foods. Cohen would give me many magazines, and some were food ones featuring elaborate dishes that you could make for home, but my diet mostly consisted of meat, beans, bread, and vegetables. I tried a couple new things in the orphanage but the only thing I really liked was the pasta.

Lena starts heading towards the kitchen pulling out ingredients and pans, while everyone else goes to sit on the stools. I follow suit and take a seat besides Callie, Phoenix takes the seat on the other side of me sending a wink in my direction. Finn scoffs from the end of the counter but I don't look at him. I get the feeling that he doesn't like me that much, I don't take that much offense to it, I mean I wouldn't want some stranger moving into my home either.

"Lena's the cook of the house," Phoenix says from beside me. "I mean we can all cook in one way or another and I make a mean spaghetti, but Lena here is a culinary genius." Lena turns around at the compliment and gives a small smirk.

"He speaks the truth, I am a master in the kitchen, its one of my many talents." I watch as she adds water into a pot.

"So Jade, what's your last name?"

"Fuller," Callie answers Phoenix's question for me, I give her a small smile in thanks which she happily returns.

"Huh, I don't think I've ever heard of a Fuller," Phoenix seems to think for a moment staring up to the ceiling taping his chin. "Nope never heard it," he turns to me, "what do your parents do?"

I shrug my shoulders.

I'm not quite sure what my parents did, the social worker didn't give me any other information other than the fact they died a tragic death years ago. Phoenix brows furrow taking in my answer, "You don't know?" I shake my head no.

I'm confused, why he's asking about my parents, do they not know my parents are dead? I feel like that's something the school would tell them like 'hey I know you're all settled in for the school year but surprise, you're getting a new roommate who is an orphan and doesn't have very many options to go,' but I guess not.

Phoenix must have read my expression before he quickly covers up his shock, "sorry, its just that most of the students attending here are from well-known crime families all over the world, and with you coming in a couple months into the year with barely any information from the staff we kind of assumed you'd be from a very powerful family. No one's ever been transferred here after the school year has already started, let alone having a room on the top floor. I mean people try for years to get in a group on the top floor so you just showing up and getting the room was a little weird to say the least." I don't know how to respond to that I mean I'm still stuck on the 'most students attending here are from crime families' so I just shrug. Averting my eyes and turning back towards Lena who's still focused on whatever she's making. I can still feel Phoenix's eyes on me along with every other person in this room now including Lena.

I turn back to Phoenix's curious gaze as he opens his mouth to speak, "I'm sorry, but even if you aren't from a powerful family, how do you not know what your parents do?"

Huh.

How do you communicate that your parents are dead without speaking?

I cross my arms on my chest, lift my head back, close my eyes, and stick my tongue out. A choked sound comes from in front of me. I drop my arms and open my eyes seeing Lena choke on a laugh before looking at me wide eyed, "I'm sorry that's not at all funny," she looks down shaking her head disappointed in herself. I shrug unbothered by her finding humor in the action. I mean it's not like I knew them. I feel a small pinch in my chest from the thought of not knowing them but there's nothing I can do now.

Everyone stays quiet for a moment no one making eye contact with each other. This shit is awkward. A ringing sound makes everybody's eyes snap up. Lena's eyes go wide, "sorry, that's the rice." She turns around and turns to turn the heat on the stove off.

"Did they die recently?" this came from the quiet Charlie looking at me with sympathy I'm not sure I deserve. I look at him for a moment before shaking my head no. he nods before muttering a "I'm sorry for your loss." I once again shrug, the energy in this room is so awkward and tense now and it's starting to make me a little anxious.

"So what's your specialty," Phoenix asks clearly trying to change the subject. I turn to him confused.

Specialty?

I'm not sure what he's talking about. My brows furrow as he continues, "Callie's a scientist and focuses on bombs, Lena's a fighter who could take a grown man down in less than a minute, Charlie's a computer genius who can hack into pretty much anything, Finn's a complete badass that can smash your head with his pinky and is one hell of a good shot, and I my darling Jade am a fine mix of everything but I specialize in tracking and hunting people down. So sweet thang what are you specializing in?" my eyes go comically wide, and my mouth is hung open.

What the actual fuck is this school?

I quickly get my shock in check and look around the room everyone's looking at me expectantly waiting for me to spill, except Finn he just looks disinterested and bored. I don't know what to say, I don't think I have a specialty and this whole conversation is leading me to believe that the offer from the school was not because they felt bad, and I was a lonely orphan with nowhere to go but more to do with my life living with Cohen. Which means that someone here most likely knows everything about me and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Unease sets in as the eyes of the room stay on me and all I can do is shrug. No one seems upset by my answer and Callie chimes in soothing my nerves, "not everyone knows their specialty when they get here but you'll probably figure it out in the first week of training." She smiles.

I'm starting to think that this training isn't the football, basketball, high school sports type of training but more the let's learn how to kill people effectively and efficiently type of training.

"Finn, will you set the table please," Lena asks.

Finn grumbles under his breath but slides off the chair and grabs the placements before heading to the dining room. Lena claps her hands together, "well, dinner is done so everyone can grab a plate, load it up and head to the dining room." Everyone slides out of their stools and Lena hands me a plate and turns to the hungry teens, "move out of the way people Jade gets to go first." She pushes me to the front of the line. There're two pots on the stove, one filled with rice, and the other filled with chicken and broccoli in some type of sauce. I give myself a small portion of rice, chicken, and broccoli and start heading to the table.

I've never had that big of an appetite and Cohen would regularly feed me twice a day accompanied by rigorous exercise, unless I was being punished then I wouldn't be given a meal until he saw fit, so these three meals a day have become kind of hard.

Finn's the only one in the dining room when I enter, his huge body standing at the end of the table. I stand there for a moment wondering if they have seats they all like to sit in, and where they want me to sit. I'm brought out of my thoughts by Finn clearing his throat and pointing to the seat next to him.

I walk over to the seat he pointed me to as he starts walking out the room into the kitchen. I place my plate down on the placemat and slide down into my seat waiting for people to join.

The group starts piling in, everyone chatting amongst themselves as they take their seats. Finn's the last one to come in with a heaping plate that's probably ten times the amount on my own. He carrying two cans in his hand as he makes his way to his seat.

He places his plate on the table and slides into his chair that's to the left of me. He places one can in front of him and then the next one on my table placement. I look at him confused he ignores it and starts eating his food. Everyone around starts digging into their meals, I pick up my fork and try the food.

Damn this shit is good.

I look up at Lena to find she's already looking at me, I send her two thumbs up and she smiles triumphantly at me. I look at the can in front of me staring at the top of it, I'm starting to feel a little embarrassed and confused.

I don't know how to open this.

I go to place the can back down and forget about it, but the can is taken from my hands before I can do so. I look over to Finn as he opens the can for me without saying a word and placing it back on my placement. I smile at him but he only gives me a stiff nod and continues attacking his mound of food.

Even though Finn had more food than me we finished around the same time, everyone got up once we were finished and cleaned our plates. All of us start heading to our own rooms but Callie follows behind me.

Once inside my room Callie lets out a sigh, "how are you feeling Jade?" I turn towards her and let out an extreme sigh dropping onto the bed behind me.

"Tired," I mumble staring at the ceiling.

I feel the bed dip as she lays down next to me, "why don't you speak with everybody else?"

I roll my head to look at her and just shrug my shoulders. My answer only makes her smile more, "don't worry I'll get my new best friend talking circles around me in no time." I roll my eyes at her statement. I don't think its even possible for me to talk circles around Callie.

I look back up towards the ceiling, but I can feel the mood suddenly shift, "I'm sorry about your parents." Her tone of voice is sad and comforting all in one.

I don't look at her as I respond, "I didn't know them"

I feel the bed shift as she sits up looking down at me, "what do you mean?"

I look away from her, "I didn't know them" I shrug "I don't want to talk about it."

She nods in understanding before standing up, I sit up as she heads to the door, turning around before leaving, "I'll be here whenever you want to talk okay." I smile and nod as she continues, "I'll leave you alone for the night, I know tonight was a lot to take in." She turns to the door.

"Callie."

She turns around, "yeah?"

I smile at her "Don't watch the hot vampire show without me."

She beams at me, then clutches her heart letting out a dramatic gasp, "I could never do that."

I just smile as she turns around and leaves the room. I'm truly alone for the first time since I was in the basement and the feeling is not as comforting as I thought it would be, I feel cold.

I busy myself with unpacking my small bags distancing the thoughts of my old life and trying to embrace the prospects of my new one.
