June, Trina, and Connie arrived at the police department right at ten. June secretly hoped she would run into Matt there, but knew she wouldn't. She only hoped that he hadn't gotten suspended or anything. Connie walked up to the front desk and told the officer that they were there to see Dr. Blair. The officer called back to the detectives office. Detectives Peters and Friedman came out and shook hands with June and Connie, and escorted them to Interview Room D. This room was larger than the other interview rooms, and it had a white wicker loveseat. There was a small child size table and chairs in primary colors, and there were stuffed animals and toys in the corner. There were crayons, markers, and paper on the small table.

Peters showed June and Trina into the room.

"We had this room converted into a child-friendly room. Any time Dr. Blair works with a child, she uses this room, it helps the children feel more comfortable. It's also used when children come in with their parents." He pointed to the wall-length mirror to the left. "The parents can talk to officers on the other side, while being able to keep an eye on their children. Dr. Blair prefers to work one-on-one, so you may sit behind that wall and watch and listen. With your permission, we will be recording the session, so that we can review any information provided. Detective Friedman will be watching with you, I have some things I have to go check out. Will this be suitable?"

"Yes, thank you, it will be fine, when will Dr. Blair be here, I would like to talk to her before she starts?" June felt a little better after seeing the sweet room they had put together. She was very grateful that they went to these lengths to ensure the comfort of the children. She was still terrified out of her mind for her daughter, but she was holding to the thought that the results of this session could lead the police to finding the kidnappers.

"She should be here...ahh, here she is now." Peters nodded towards the slightly plump dark-skinned woman coming down the hall. She was wearing a plum-colored pants suit, her black hair was in a bun. She looked all business, but her eyes were kind. You could feel warmth radiate from her. She looked like anyone's grandma.

"Hi John, how are you doing, sweetie?" Detective Peters gave her a peck on the cheek.

"Hi, Carol, doing fine, thanks for coming down today, this is June Greene, and her daughter Trina." He introduced the women to each other.

"Sorry, Carol, I have to go, Rich will be attending, he's all ready, audio and video are set up." He looked at June, who nodded in agreement. "Say hi to the family for me, okay?"

"Sure, sweetie, see you soon." Dr. Blair smiled at the detective, then turned her full attention to June and Trina. "Mrs. Greene, I have read the file on your husband's case, I'm very sorry for your loss. Have you talked to her about her experience at all?"

"No, I couldn't bring myself to make her go through it twice, I...umm." Carol could see her eyes getting wet.

"It's alright, hon', now why don't you go sit with Detective Friedman, I will take good care of your daughter, okay?" Carol patted her hand, and then leaned down to Trina.

"Hi, there, Trina, you can call me Nana Carol, okay? Let's go look and see what kind of toys and bears I have in here." Dr. Blair, put her arm around Trina's shoulders and led her into the interview room, and closed the door.

June sat behind the glass, and watched Carol play with Trina, it looked like a grandma playing with her granddaughter, and that made June sad for a moment, that Trina didn't have a grandma, or at least not one that she knew. She shook her head to focus on the two on the other side. After about twenty five minutes of playing, Carol moved Trina over to the table, and gave her some papers to color on. Subtly, very subtly, Carol started asking questions while Trina was busy coloring.

"So, I heard you just started first grade, wow, that's pretty cool. Can you tell me about your first day?"

"My teacher's name is Mrs. D. She is pretty nice, she has yellow hair, like me. We have a lot of kids in our class and it took a long time for everyone to write their names on the board. Mrs. D., she said we are going to learn about math, and writing, and we will learn about animals like dolphins and whales, too. I hope I didn't miss learning about the dolphins, they are my favorite. I can't wait to get back to school, and see Shelly, but Shelly's not in my class, but we got to play at recess." Trina was intently focused on the picture she was drawing. So far it looked like a man with scratches on his face, and a bandage on the stick arm.

"Dolphins are my favorite, too, I like when they jump out of the water and do flips." Trina nodded, tongue sticking out as she worked hard on her picture. "Why do you think you might have missed learning about dolphins?"

"The bad men took me, I didn't know they were bad, until they put me in the dark room." Trina stopped coloring for a minute, looked up at Carol.

"It's okay, sweetie, I'm here, and you're here, and it's not dark in this room, is it?"

She shook her head no.

"Did the men look like nice men first?"

"Uh huh, when the car crashed, I was really scared. I was crying for daddy, but he didn't answer, he was sleeping. A man opened my door, and asked if I was okay. I was crying, but I saw he had a uniform. Mommy always told me to go to someone wearing a uniform if I was scared."

"That's right, Trina. Did the man's uniform look like a police man, or a fire man?"

"It was like a fire man, he had a red fire hat, too. But, he didn't have a fire truck. He had a black car."

June was holding her breath, sitting and listening, oh, Trina, of course she went with the man, it's what she had taught her to do.

"Do you remember driving in the black car?" Carol looked at the emerging picture, and saw a room with the bandaged man, and a box that could be a T.V.

"No, something smelled funny, and then I got sleepy. I woke up in the dark room."

"Who is that in your picture, is that one of the bad men?"

"No, he's Frank, he's my friend. Jesus sent him to me."

June was floored at that statement, she had allowed Trina to go to church with her friend, she figured believing in God was like believing in Santa, couldn't hurt for a child. But, she never expected to hear a statement like that from her little girl.

"Why did Jesus send him to you?" Carol had been surprised by the statement, but kept going right in stride.

"He saved me from the bad men, and the really bad man that called me princess. I don't like to be called princess anymore."

"Okay, no problem, what did the man do that called you princess?"

"He came in the dark room. I was hiding in the bathroom. It was dark, too. He pushed the door open and it hurt my legs. He said he wanted to lay down with me in bed."

June froze, no, no, please, no! She couldn't bear the thought that a man might have touched her, hurt her.

"Did he hurt you, Trina?"

"He started to take my shirt off, and I screamed, because mommy says you have to scream and yell for help, if anyone tries to touch me in the bathing suit area."

"That's right, that's exactly what to do."

"The bad man, he hit me on the face, really hard, I was crying." Carol pulled her in close to her, feeling the little girl start to shake.

"He told me I had to stay quiet or he was going to hurt me more. But I prayed to Jesus, and Frank saved me. He stopped the bad man, and made him go away."

June never prayed in her life before, but she prayed at that moment.

"If you're really there, and you really did this, thank you! Thank you for saving my daughter." She was crying, couldn't stop the flow from her eyes. She never thought of herself as a crier, she had always kept her emotions close, but these past few days have been a strain in every way, and now, the tears she cried were fear, sorrow, but also joy and gratitude. She couldn't believe she could be feeling all these things at the same time.

"Is that the dark room in your picture?" Carol tried to redirect Trina, she would come back to the other man another time.

Trina went on to tell the story about how Frank had gotten her out of that room, and his "owie", and the hotel room, all the different cars they used, all the driving, and finally when she was at the mall with her mom.

"Okay, Trina, you did really good! You are so brave, and strong, no, not like a princess, like Superwoman." Carol looked at the new picture Trina had worked on. This one showed a family, the mom, the dad, and the little girl in between.

Trina smiled, "Can I be Superwoman?"

"Yes, of course! I'm going to get your mommy now, okay?" Trina nodded. "Will you come back and talk to me again?" Trina nodded again.

Carol stepped out into the hallway, as June did. She saw the pain in June's eyes, but June still managed a small smile.

"Thank you, Dr. Blair. You were really gentle with her. That means a lot to me."

"You're welcome, are you doing alright?" After talking to Trina and hearing what had happened, it hurt. She couldn't imagine how much more June must be hurting.

"Yes, I think I will be. Are we done now? I'd like to take her home. We still have to talk about her daddy being gone, any suggestions?"

"She has been through a lot, and, like I told her, she is very brave. There's no need to tell her what someone did to her father, or what you have had to do, but be straight with her. She already knows in her heart, that he's gone. It will be tough, for both of you. Here's my card, please call me anytime you need to talk. I will want to do another session with Trina, we need to try to focus in on details of the location she was in, but not right now. Any more today and she will crash, how about same time tomorrow?"

June nodded and shook Dr. Blair's hand. Dr. Blair hugged her tight, June sunk into her for a minute. It felt like a warm, maternal hug. She stood back, and smiled at Dr. Blair. Then she opened the door to see Trina, she kneeled down and held Trina close.

"Let's go home." She scooped up Trina, though she was really too big to be carried. June carried her all the way to the car, and sat in back with her again, while Connie drove. There wasn't enough room for Connie to watch with June and the detective, she had been waiting patiently in a chair in the foyer. She had read through every magazine they had, including the Fish and Bait magazine. They were back in the interview room for almost two hours.

Connie was dying to know what had happened, but looked back at the mother and daughter in the back, and decided she had to wait.
