*Kylie* (A Year and a Half Earlier)

"I'm gonna miss you." Casey says while hugging me. "You better tell me when your settled in or I will hunt you down and kick your ass."

I laugh and hug her back, "Me too, but I have to get away. I can't let him to find me, Cas." I say before pulling back. "I'll call you as soon as I'm safe." I grab my backpack and two duffle bags. Sitting down on the bus I look out the window and wave to Casey. Three minutes later the bus drives off.

Glancing down at the bundle in my arms I giggle at the sounds he's making. "We'll be safe. I promise." Three days and seven buses later I stop in a small town called Mule Hollow, Texas. Stepping into Sam's Diner I find a booth in the back. Sitting down I sigh in relief, three bags and a six month old baby are heavy. "Hello, can I get you some thing to drink?" says a voice startling me.

Looking up I see an older man, probably late forties, early fifties. "Uh, water?" I say but it comes out more of a question. He chuckles and walks off. 'Okay, really need to pay more attention to my surrounding.'

"Here ya go, sweet pea." says the man as he comes back and sits a glass of water in front of me. "I'm Sam, and you are?"

"Kylie," I say while grabbing the water. I felt like I could tell him anything, he reminds me of my dad. Kyler then decided to make himself known, "And this little slobber monster is Kyler." I saw I grab him from the carrier and put him in my lap.

"He's a cutie." Sam says, "Would you like some thing to eat, honey?"

"Um," I look at the menu, "Cheese Burger with a Baked Potato." I smile as I hand it back. He nods and walks off. Sighing I look around and see that the diner was filled with cowboys and cowgirls. I giggle as I remember Casey, she a cowgirl at heart. I grab the bottle from my bag and feed Kyler while I wait for my food.

"My baby," I whispered giving him the bottle. "Soon it'll all be over soon."

"Ok, here you go." Sam say while setting my food down in front of me. Mumbling 'Gracias'I start eating. "You passing through?" he asks sitting down across from me.

"No estoy seguro(not sure)" I say nervously, taking a sip of my water.

"Sorry been a long time since I spoke Spanish. I'm a little rusty." Sam chuckles.

"Sorry. I'm not sure." I say shyly.

"Oh don't be shy. No one here is gonna do anything bad." he laughs, "besides you look like your about to fall over. There's a living space downstairs."

"Why would you give me a place to stay when you don't know me?" I ask.

"Because you look like a small child. I don't have anything of value you could steal." Sam says smiling softly at me.

I smile as I stand up and hug him, "Gracias, thank you so much. This means so much to me." For the three months i worked helping Sam fix all the paperwork for the diner and finally felt safe for the first time in forever.

Two months later I bought the building across from the diner and turned it into a library/bookstore and fixed the upstairs into a small apartment. I was finally smiling for the first time in years. After talking to Casey after months of nothing, I still look over my shoulder but not as much since I moved here. 'He will not touch my son.' I think as I smile at my familia.

...

(Present Day)

"Kylie, I was wondering when I would see you again. Its been forever." Sam exclaims when I walk into the diner for lunch.

"I was here this morning, Sam." I chuckle as I sit at the counter with Kyler in my lap. "Besides I live next door. You never come in the store."

"Yes well, reading gives me a headache." Sam says before turning to Kyler, "Hola nino."(Hello child)

Kyler just giggles and a makes baby sounds. I smile down at him before ordering. After lunch I walk back to the bookstore and set Kyler down for a nap. Putting the book back in order and cleaning up some I hum along with the music playing from my IPOD.

After about thirty minutes I hear the bell above the door chime, going to see if they needed help as I turn the corner I get run into by a cute little girl. "Careful sweetheart," I smiled.

"Sorry," she smiled as I fixed her glasses.

"Dani, where are you?"

"Over here Uncle Zach." she says before turning back to me, "I didn't tell you my name, did I? I'm Dani, with a I."

I chuckle, "I'm Kylie. Come on." I say as I grab her hand and walk towards the front. When I see all the big men standing in the front I freeze. "Mierda.(shit)" I whisper.

"Dani, how many times do I have to tell you don't run off like that." one of the two men scolds the little girl, I cough awkwardly and all the men look at me.

"Sorry if she caused any trouble." one of the men said.

"No, its fine." I mumbled feeling really uncomfortable under all the stares.

"Ms. Kylie, this is my Uncle Zach and his friend." Dani says while smiling at the man who was scolding her.

"Sheriff," I nodded at the man wearing the badge. I jump back when the other man steps towards me I step back quickly. He look at me confused but doesn't comment.

"Sorry if we startled you," he said and I just shrugged.

"Its okay. Um...bye." I mumbled as they all turned to leave then Kyler started screaming, "Crap," I shove Zach out of the way as I run towards the office. Walking back to the front room I talk softly, "Shh, it's alright." I sway back and froth as his cried die down to whimpers.

"Awe, cute baby." Dani says as I sit down in my chair. I smile as her.

"Dani let's go we'll come back later but we need to get home and the horses need to be feed and watered." I think it was Zach who said it but I was too busy staring at my baby's bright blue eyes.
