I watched the smoke roll over the balcony. The painting was nothing more than ash now. It made me feel better a little, but I wondered how she still got it in my room. A knock brought me out of my thoughts.

"Luis?" I frowned at him.

"Hey man," He entered, his eyes automatically going to the burning painting.

"Wassup?" I said tiredly.

First Novia, now me. What was he doing? The scratches on his face were covered, but it didn't stop the image of her attacking them from appearing in my mind again.

"I wanted to check on you and also tell you what I and Novia agreed on," He sat on the chair by the window.

He and Novia.

"I'm fine. Why did you go to her room anyway?" My voice came out more aggressive than questioning, and his brow lifted at it.

"Same as I'm doing here." He shrugged. "she's not a bad person"

"She's a murder,"

"So are we."

I huffed, so she got in his head too, I see. I wonder what else.

"We just talked."

"You talked?"

"Yeah, she told me about her painting and her dad a little. I think she's warming up to me." he smiled.

I don't know why that made my stomach tighten. I didn't care who she made feel important. Luis was always like this, he wants to hear everyone's story. See if he could help make life easier here for them. He wanted to be everyone's friend. His upbringing wasn't the best, so he wants to make sure everyone has someone.

"I think I can help keep her on track if you need"

"Yeah, that might not be such a bad idea" I sat on the edge of the bed. Especially after tonight. She's going to be more of a handful, and I definitely don't want to be near her. So if he wants to take that spot, I won't object.

"Her dad means the world to her" He started

"I know" He leaned forward and scooted to the front of the seat.

"He calms her. If we can interrupt that in her surroundings as we train her, we could probably avoid something like today."

"How would we do that?" I folded my arms.

"She and her dad made this kid song when she was younger." He grinned.

"What?"

"I asked about her talents. Turns out she has a few and one of them is singing like you. She showed me this song her dad and brother used to calm her when she was little. Maybe if we can hum that around her when we notice her space out again it could help,"

Tightened.

"Do you like her?" It slipped out. He looked taken aback.

"No, I don't know her."

"You're starting to," He grinned.

"do you?"

"No" I flattened

"It's okay if you do. She's a compelling person. You're forced to be around her all day and night. It wouldn't be surprising."

"I don't feel anything towards her besides hatred," I glared. He put his hands up.

"Okay."

"We came to an agreement, the five of us are off limits, she'll try her best to avoid killing us," He chuckled. "If we take her to paint outside for an hour every two days,"

I frowned at that. It was that easy. Take her to go paint.

"Okay, you'll do it," He returned to face.

"She specifically asked for you" I rolled my eyes.

"Fine, you get in the mornings to bring her to breakfast"

He nodded. Standing, I followed him to the door, but he turned around.

"I know how difficult it is to see her as a person because of your family, but I mean it when I say she's not all bad."

My jaw clenched.

"She's just like the rest. I won't change my views because you've had a conversation with her."

He gave me a tight look before leaving.Β
