Dedicated to Bushra_Rahmani and her book 'I found My Girl In Graveyard'

According to Hindu religious beliefs, If something good happens to you in this life then it means you have done some good deed in your past life.

If something bad happens then you have done something wrong on your past life.

I don't know what I did wrong to deserve this.

To marry a man who was twice my age.

To be mother of children who were near my age.

Why did Ajji hate me so much.

I left the table and ran towards my room.

Deepti ran behind me, begging me to stop.

"Lila, wait talk to me"

But I was in no state to talk.

I entered my room and jumped onto my bed and started shedding tears.

Little did I know that a pair of eyes were watching this through the balcony.

Deepti entered my room and closed the door.

"Lila we need to talk, We need to find a way to get you out of this" She said rubbing my palms.

"How can I get out of this?" I sobbed "My life is ruined. I am nothing but a moneybank to her"

My heart was aching. It was like someone was piercing it.

"I don't know what she thinks of you. But for me, you are my sister and sister's go through unthinkable shit for each other." She said with all her seriousness.

"But what am I gonna do?" I asked.

"Run away. Go somewhere far from here" She said unsure about her own suggestion.

"You know I cannot do that" I said wiping away my tears, "I won't be able to survive it"

Leave this house? Where would I live? I had no money. Nothing.

"There is one more thing you can do" She said

"What?" I asked. I hoped it would be something I could actually do.

"Find a guy and get married to him before Ajji marries you off to a grandpa" She said smiling.

My hopes were crushed. Only she could suggest something stupid like this.

"Yeah and where will I find a guy who will marry me?" I asked sarcastically. I overestimated Deepti's brilliance.

"You don't need to find a guy. You already have one in your life?" She said with a evil glint in her eyes.

"And who he might be and why will he marry me?"

"Think hard Lila, who will profit from you being married. Who is the reason that you have to get married so fast?"
She said.

Who was she talking about. Who will...

"No" I shouted as I spranged up and stood on my bed.

"Yes" She shouted even loudly and jumped.

"No way, I am not marrying Vikram"

"Lila think clearly, this is the best shot that you have. Marry him for a year. Sell him the business for a huge price. Divorce him. Then you will be free like you always wanted."

'Free like you always wanted'

'Free like you always wanted'

These words circled in my mind. Will this thing really work. What Deepti said was right. It was my only option. And a good one too. But marriage? I always dreamed of my wedding day like every other girl.

I want to be filled with love and happiness.

Not a way to get free but to be trapped in somebody's arm with serenity all around me.

Freedom was something I wanted.

But was I ready to go at this height for it?

"Okay" I said. I have to do something to get out of this mess. Once I get married to the person which Ajji chose, I would never be able to get out of it.

Deepti started jumping.

"But" I stated which stopped her

"Vikram needs to accept this" I spotted a hole in her plan.

"Don't worry he will. Why don't you ask him just now?" She said instructing me to turn back with her fingers.

There he was Vikram standing on his balcony with coffeemug in his hand staring at us. His expression were of confusion. He wasn't wearing his usual suit but a white shirt and black pants.

Now I hoped that he wears suit all day because in this outfit he looked more hot.

I stepped down from my bed and stepped towards him.

I stood at the edge of my balcony and asked,"Did you hear what we were talking about?"

He straightened up and replied,"No but whatever it was, must be a complete waste of my time to hear"

How dare he insult me in his every sentence.

"Actually it was regarding our business and there is something I want to tell you?" I said

"What?" He asked with eagerness.

"I can't tell you like this. We need to meet" I said.

I couldn't propose to him about a fake marriage through a balcony. It would be proposterous wouldn't it?

"Come here and meet me in my office"

"Okay I will meet you in half an hour"
I need time to think how I will break the news to him.

*********

I was sitting on my bed trying to calm myself. I had recited my whole speech to Deepti and she approved. I changed my clothes to make myself presentable.

It wouldn't be fair to propose fake marriage to Vikram Joshi in a pink panda tshirt.

I was wearing a blue salwaar kameez which was previously Deepti's.

I stood up to leave.

Deepti came to leave me till our door.

"If anybody asks about me, tell them you sent me to buy you a shampoo" I gave her an excuse to explain about my absence as if anybody cared.

"Be strong. Don't puke if you get nervous. If you do then please atleast clean it yourself"

Hmm... I was glad to see Deepti had so much faith in me.

With a quick smile I set my foot forward towards Vikram's place.
