"Hey, you, I don't like your girlfriend."

Song: 'Girlfriend' by Avril Lavigne.

Chelsy

It was Saturday, and after convincing my Mom that I needed new bras, we made our way to the Mall to get some. I think one of the reasons why I probably got stood up is because my breasts were not appealing enough, courtesy of the stupid training bras I had been wearing since I started growing buds. It's annoying that I don't have enough boobs like some other girls. Puberty, what have I ever done to you?

My mother decided to come along with me and grab a few stuff for herself. We always did stuff like this as a daughter and mother get-together. It was corny but hella fun sometimes, when she wasn't coaching me about sex and all those awkward topics. It's the only time she could get her messages across without Max's comments about how weird girls' bodies are and how I shouldn't think about having sex until I am forty. Yeah, forty. Now these 'educational' discussion usually ends with Max and I quarreling because just so you know, my brother is super annoying and controlling with very unrealistic expectations and beliefs.

"So honey, tell me more about this Brad guy," My mother began as she drove down the street to the mall in town.

My mother always tried to be the 'cool' mom but she had no idea how cringy it felt like half the time I'm like: please stop.

And this was definitely not my favorite topic considering how he stood me up last night. I preferred her usual annoying ones such as sex and periods. I think those were more tolerable for today.

"Uh, there is really nothing much to know or tell..." I began tugging at a loose thread on my jeans shorts.

She rolled her eyes playfully with a smile. "Don't be shy. I won't judge."

"Well, he's a great swimmer."

"Ooooh, nice, and?"

"And...he's great at hockey too and other sports and..."

Wow that was all I knew about Brad. How could I have liked someone I knew nothing about? I didn't know why I liked him, I just did. If that makes sense.

"Mhm. You seem to not know much about him, do you?" She pointed out, glancing over at me then at the road again.

I sighed. "I just kind of feel like talking about something else."

She smiled. "Okay, honey, but you know no sex, right? Some guys these days only want one thing."

"Yeah, Mom, I know."

She turned into the parking lot of the mall and we got out and closed our doors.

I grabbed some 'women' bras and underwear from the ladies' section. Finally I was now going to be a part of the world of cuffs and excessive layers of cottons. I turned around to head to my mother who was by the shoe section trying on a pair of sandals, only to bump into someone.

"Sorry."

I looked up to see Nathan.

I swallowed. "Nate."

He was wearing a blue V-neck shirt that hugged his biceps perfectly and denim jeans.

He smiled. "Princess. What 'you doing here?"

"Uh...just—"

His eyes fell to the bras and underwear in my hand and I pushed them behind me swiftly, earning a small titter from him.

"Just doing some....you know, shopping..."

He nodded. "Ahh. I see."

A faint look of amusement shone in his eyes as he looked at my agitated expression.

"So what are you doing here?" I asked. "In the women section at that..."

"My mom said I should grab some diapers for my baby sister so I was kind of searching for the section. I think I'm lost. Seeing that this section has only female...stuff..."

Glancing at the feminine lingerie hanging around us, I nervously forced a smile. "Oh! Let me show you where it is."

"Yeah, thanks." He scratched his head with a faint blush on his cheeks.

He followed behind me to the sanitary section across from this one. I pointed to the wide collection of diapers and baby sanitary.

"Here it is." I smiled.

"Thanks, appreciated," he said as he moved over and chose a large pack from the counter.

"Well, see you...at home or wherever."

He nodded with a smirk. "Okay, Princess. Thanks again."

I gave an awkward wave then was about to turn away when my Mother walked over to where we were, making me freeze in my spot.

"Nathan, I am surprised to see you here," she said with a smile, holding her chosen pair of sandals in her hand. "Grocery shopping?"

"Uh, no, actually came to fetch these diapers." He held up the ones he chose from the section.

"Oh nice, how is your baby sister?" She asked.

He smiled. "Well, she's okay, cheery and vibrant."

"Lovely. Actually, Chels and I came to get her new pairs of underwear."

Oh My God. My mother was way too comfortable with Nathan for her own good. How could she just say that like that?

Kill me now.

I held my forehead in humiliation. "Mom. Please. He didn't ask, TMI."

Nathan chuckled a little.

Ignoring the embarrassed look I was wearing caused by her, she spoke. "Chels I have yoga lessons now, since you always hate having to accompany me, you can let Nathan take you home."

I shot her a flabbergasted glare. "Uh-actually..."

"I don't mind," Nathan added quickly.

She beamed. "See? He doesn't mind."

I forced an awkward smile.

My mother turned to him. "Your mother is coming to Yoga classes today, right Nate?"

"Yeah, she is actually."

"Okay, great. See you two kids later then," she said with a smile before turning away and leaving us in the aisle.

This was going to be quite awkward for some odd reason.

Nathan turned his radio up as he drove down the street to our houses. The song Jarryd James 'Thousand Times' was being played and I glanced over at him.

"I keep having to ride with you unplanned two days in a row now, awkward, right?"

He smiled. "No. It's cool, actually. You're interesting when it's just us two."

I rolled my eyes playfully. "Pick up line."

He laughed. "No. Would never."

Ouch.

I narrowed my eyes at his response. "Would never?"

"I mean, I would never look at you that way. I mean 'could', could never. Correction. I could never try to hit on you that way."

For some reason I was greatly disappointed. Then what were all those stares and smiles all about? He clearly could confuse a girl.

Not that I was crushing on Nathan or anything. I just hated hearing a guy say I am not worth hitting on. Like seriously, what could be more disheartening?

I seem to have forgotten that this was Nathan, I shouldn't even be seeing him as a member of the opposite sex. He was still the boy next door who annoyed me.
But somehow I felt that perception changing.

I folded my arms and sunk lower in my seat. "Wow. Offensive much."

"No, not that way," he said quickly, a look on his face that showed he regretted the usage of the words he chose. "I mean. You do know your brother and your mother would kill me if I flirt with you."

"Well, it's okay. Not that I want you to flirt with me...or anything..."

"Are you sure? Do you want me to?" He asked, a smirk on his lips as he glanced over at me.

I swallowed. "H-hell no Nathan."

I looked out the window, closing my eyes and inwardly scolding myself for just stammering.

Hell's wrong with me?

I returned my gaze to him and attempted to change the topic. "So, uh what are your plans for today?"

"Well, my mom is at Yoga. My baby sister is at my Aunt's so I got the house to myself. You might have an unwanted episode of Elizabeth and I making out in my room so keep your blinds closed."

I made a face. "Elizabeth will be over?"

"Yeah, she's having a party later so she's gonna spend the day with me then go home to get things ready."

"Ooh, so this was the party Vicky was talking about,"
I mumbled.

He looked at me. "Hold on, you are not planning on going, right?"

Yeah. Maybe I was.

Just to show Brad what he was missing out on.

"Nope I hate parties," I said.

"Good because Max would flip."

Oh, honey, he doesn't have to know. Haha.
