"They're here!"

My mom's voice sounds from the inside of the house, loud and clear, while we get out of the car. Luna's automatic reaction is to come up to my side, her body tense, letting me know she's nervous. So, I intertwine our fingers and I give her a reassuring squeeze.

The door opens even before we reach it and my mom comes rushing down with her arms open. Her stomach is more prominent now, already visible, even if it only looks like she's bloated. Her eyes are almost shut due to the huge smile she's sporting and I gently let go of Luna's hands to give my mom the hug she always wants from me.

However, he rushes right past me, engulfing Luna in a bear hug and leaving me completely hanging, and dumbfounded. I look around me in shock and notice my dad and uncle Jake's reaction - muffled chuckles.

Oh fuck, no.

I am my mother's favourite!

"I was hoping you'd come, I am so so happy to have you here," my mom gushes, still ignoring the hell out of me. "For the first time in years, I am not the only woman around here."

I am not sure if I am flattered that my mom feels this attached to Luna already, only after meeting her once, or offended that she was never this warm with Abby, even if she has known her since she was five.

Curiously, I can't help but feel relieved, because being the mommy's boy I am, my biggest wish is to have the girl of my dreams get along with my mom.

Luna's eyes are wide, cheeks flushed but she is still hugging my mom - tight. Her eyes are trained on me, screaming "What do I do?" and I can't help but chuckle. Willow's effect on people is my favourite, the way she makes even the less affectionate people comfortable baffles me.

Ok, time to save my girl.

"You know I am still here right? Your firstborn kid? Your favourite child? The prodigy of the family?"

"Oh shush, I have had you for eighteen years now," she dismisses me. "You're old news."

I gasp, offended while the other two traitors crack up, laughing at my expense.

"But I still love you," she comes to kiss me - finally -, but it only lasts a few seconds because she attaches herself back to Luna's body, linking her arms together.

"Let's go have lunch, you must be starving. Jeremy is still in school but Wilder is so excited to see you."

"You've been replaced, son." My dad's hand finds my shoulder, patting it in pity.

It's weird, for the first time in eighteen years, to have my mom prefer someone else to me, but I am not bothered in any way. If there's someone I don't mind sharing the attention with it's her. And knowing how bad things are with her mom, makes me so warm on the inside, knowing that my mom can give her some of what she's missing.

It reminds me of what I wanted to talk to him about.

"Hey dad, I wanted to talk to you. I will need a huge favour."

He nods, slowing his pace down while mom, Luna and uncle Jake get inside ahead of us.

"Are you still friends with that doctor that is an expert in addiction problems and has a rehab clinic?"

His head snaps quickly, looking at me with wide eyes, "What's wrong, Dylan? You haven't touched-"

"No," I heave.

I know his tolerance for drug use is non-existence, especially because of his brother and what -

Ok, no. I can't think of this.

"Dad, Luna's mom struggles with addiction," I confess.

It's not my place to do this, to tell someone about her life but to get the help I want to give her, I need to explain as much as I can.

"Oh," he mutters.

"She is the one that keeps paying the bills and has to pay for her mom's debts. I just... I want to help her and I thought that maybe you could-"

"I'll see what I can do, alright? Just don't tell her anything yet."

"Thank you, dad. You're the best." I wrap my arm around his shoulders, pulling him to me.

"I'm proud of you."

It's handy when you're slightly taller than your old man. He chuckles but makes no move to leave and we walk like this until we enter the house.

Inside, the walls reverberate with the loud laughter that can be heard from the kitchen, making me curious about what's happening.

Apparently, to maintain the trend that I am no longer important, Wilder is on Luna's lap, attached to her and screeching as his life depends on it.

"You back!" He yells, hugging her neck.

"Hi buddy," she answers rubbing his back.

"Ok, let's sit down and eat. Wilder, let Luna breathe for a little it."

"No!"

"Hey, half-pint, leave my girl alone!" I fake complain, getting closer to them.

"She mine!" He counters back.

"Wanna bet?"

I peel him off her and automatically he starts kicking the air and throwing a fit. Luna goes to extend her arms back to him but I fake glare at her and mouth no.

Wilder is a master manipulator, the crocodile tears will disappear as soon as I bribe him.

"I'll let you play Crash with me if you behave," I mutter to his ear.

Just as I predicted, he automatically stills and stops crying, making everyone else laugh - Luna included. Placing him on the floor, he runs to my mom.

I grab Luna's hand, pull her to me and ask, "Hungry?"

"A bit," she confesses, blushing.

"Mom, what's for lunch?"

"Cataplana. Do you like fish Luna?"

"Yes," she nods, eagerly.

"You better have enough, my girl can eat when she's starving."

She glares at me before punching my ribs, causing me to wince.

Damn, I love it when she's this fiery.

"There's more than enough, come on," my mom chuckles.

Lunch is perfect. We all eat and not much is left when we're done because let's face it, my mom is the bestest cook in the world. Luna unashamedly repeats - twice. And fuck me if I don't like watching her eat.

Everyone gets along most of the time, but watching her fit in so well here is... I don't even have words.

Watching my mom eagerly asking her questions about what interests her and what she likes the most at school; having Dad chiming in once in a while and sliding his eyes to me often with an amused glint and uncle Jake dropping a few of his signature jokes every once in a while, all while Wilder eater happily between my mom and Luna gives me this giddiness inside.

These electricity waves spread through my veins until it reaches my brain, making it buzz.

It's impossible not to like this, not to want to get used to this dynamic. To have her here constantly with me, with us. I can't help but look around me and feel...happy.

She makes me happy.

"Dylan, will you pick up Jeremy from school and take your brother to the park a little bit? They've been missing you a lot. It might also be a good way to show Luna around?"

"Sure, mom." I agree.

A couple of hours after lunch, after Luna and I settle out stuff into my bedroom - yes, that took a lot of convincing.  Abby was a girlfriend but she had been having sleepovers way before we ever took it to the next level. My dad was adamant to keep us in separate bedrooms until my mom elbowed him in the ribs and asked him if he remembers how he was when he was sixteen?

"Exactly because I remember that I think it's best to separate them. No offence but you're the only woman I want to see pregnant in this household," he said, turning Luna into a living and breathing tomato.

I get his point, but he can't be that obtuse to think that just because we are sleeping in separate rooms we won't still do it... Well, he did.

At least, until mom gave him a glare that meant "we'll talk later", and told us to get comfortable, dismissing him completely.

"Ready?" I ask when he comes back from my bathroom.

She nods, picking up her black leather jacket. We pick up the car keys, Wilder and head for Jeremy's primary school.

"Luna, you're back!" Jeremy yells and runs to her, hugging her hip.

"Wow, I am the birthday boy and no one seems to care about me anymore," I huff.

"Of course, I don't care. You're not pretty." Jeremy sticks his tongue out at me.

Wilder, who sits on my shoulders laughs and I can't help but give in to the "annoyed big brother" kind of behaviour.

"You little shit," I grumbled, reaching for him.

"Hey," Luna slips in the middle of us with a glare. "Aren't you the adult one?"

"Not when it comes to my siblings," I counter.

"Well, tough luck because I'm here." She counters before bringing Wilder's and Jeremy's attention to her. "How about we head to the park before we eat some ice cream?"

"YES!" They both screech in unison.

We both chuckle and start walking. Wilder on my shoulders and Jeremy's hand gripping hers tightly. He talks to her animatedly, telling her about what he's done in school and about her girlfriend. She listens to it intently, chiming in, now and then, smiling. Always smiling.

Her smile is dazzling, breathtaking and heartwarming. For someone who looked so angry at the beginning, this girl sure has a big soft heart and it makes me fall so much harder. I just hope that this has started every since we met - because I know I have been so much happier.

Luna looks at me with a carefree and jolly glint in her eyes and I can't help but intertwine our fingers together.

When an elder lady looks at us with an endearing smile it daws on me that - even though we are too young for it - we look like a family but it doesn't bother me one fucking bit.

I'd like to have it all with her, honestly.

Shit

Shit, I'm... not ready to admit it out loud yet.

Mom told me once that sometimes first love and true love can be one and the same, but it doesn't mean it'll always happen. I wouldn't understand back then because I tried to convince myself that Abby was it but I was wrong.

So dead wrong.

Abby was my best friend and maybe my first love - but not my true one.

Luna is my true love.

I love her.

"Dylan? You're back?"
