Skye’s gaze was solely on the window she entered the night before.

She had woken up due to the cold breeze washing over her bare skin. It was silent. Too silent for her liking, usually you would be hearing some frogs or some type of animal maybe even some groans from zombies. Then it happened.

All of a sudden explosions sounded from all around her. She gasped as an explosion was close to the building she was in and ducked under some rubble from the floor above her. 'Huh...? Explosions? Then this must mean there's some type of government still intact somewhere around here! If there's some kind of military fort around here then there's the chance I could find them...' she thought to herself letting a grin slip its way onto her face, thinking of what she could do.

"Hey come on guys we need to get inside!!" a distressed voice yelled out, along with someone jumping through a window and grunting when they landed on their back.

Skye's grin slipped from her face and looked out the window as she could see them entering the building but didn't show herself and kept hidden until another figure emerged from the same window she went through.

"We need to stay low, the army is bombing the city…" said the dark-skinned man. "Shut it old man! You're the reason we're in this damn mess anyway!" shouted a man with sickly pale skin. "Quiet down...the zombies will hear your voice from miles away," a calm voice said. 'What the hell, how did I not see him climb through the window?...' Skye thought as she looked at the last guy.

It was almost as if he sensed her staring at him because, before she had the time to react the guy looked her straight in the eyes.

'Damn, he saw me.' Skye thought as she saw the guy pull the pistol from its spot in his belt and aimed it at her. "Yo Jeremiah, what are you doing?" The dark-skinned man asked 'Jeremiah' as he turned to look where he was aiming. "There's a girl under the rubble in the corner..." Jeremiah stated as he kept his eyes on Skye.

Both of the men immediately trained their guns and pointed at Skye. 'Dude all I wanted was to get out of town...' Skye thought as she let her hand wander to the back of her pants waistband where the small revolver resided. "It's just a kid, what's she gonna do?" The pale man laughed in mockery while doing obnoxious movements. 'I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up dying soon.' Skye thought as she looked at the man with a blank stare. Both of his comrades side-eyed him with a judgemental stare "Man shut up Rick!" the older man snapped as he pointed his gun at the ground.

"Look I'm just trying to avoid the bombs-" Skye stopped herself as she realized that the explosions had gone further than where they were located, as the ground was no longer shaking as much.

The trio seemed to have realized that as the Jeremiah guy went to the window with the other two guys still having their guns trained on Skye and looked outside but soon took a step back with a confused face. "Hey Mich the city plan has to be ruined, the city is on fire I don't wanna take any chances." He said as he looked at the older dark dark-skinned man who was in distress.

" Why would you go to the city, it's crawling with zombies." Skye butted into their conversation, staring at them with an expression like they were dumb. The old guy named Mich went on about how he had a garage full of guns, ammo, knives, and a whole lot of arsenal but was cut off when Rick shoved him in his side with the butt of his shotgun. Mich glared at him nonetheless he stopped talking pretty quick. "Who are you and where is your group."

Jeremiah said as he took a few steps closer to Skye. "I don't know you, why would I tell you?" spit out Skye as she took a step closer to him and held her head high with her grip on the revolver tightening.

They were only about six feet away from each other but they could both see each other clearer than they did before. 'She looks familiar...why?' Jeremiah thought as he looked at Skye. Skye squinted her eyes at him and scowled when she recognized him. "Hey!" she yelled realizing he didn't care for her words when he looked like he zoned out, talking to him he froze and looked closer. 'Huh? What's she goin' on about?' he thought and walked away.

"We have more important things to do than argue with you little girl." Rick said as he stomped away with Mich looking apologetic at her before walking after them.

Jeremiah stopped right before he jumped out the window looking back at Skye and saying " What're you doin' just standin' there, are you coming or not?" and with that, he jumped out. "Jeremiah you can't be serious, we just met her! What if her group attacks us!" Rick shouted enraged at the fact this girl they barely knew was going with them.

"You did it with me so what's the difference."Jeremiah said and walked away.

Outside the building was a black truck that was covered in blood and mud. " Come on we gotta get out of here," Jeremiah said, as he pulled keys out of his pocket and tossed them at Mich who opened the driver's door and got in the truck. Rick was already in the front seat so that left Skye with... Jeremiah who was in the back seat with no room between them due to their luggage in the backseat with them.

Rick put in a cassette tape and sat back in his seat with his shotgun on his lap. Mich drove while Jeremiah and Skye were in the back both keeping silent.

The music started to play as they drove off into the night, all hoping to find something different from one another, not knowing the dangers  ahead of them.
