Officer Jeremy Perkins lived to the age of 38 before he was gunned down in an attempted robbery.

He had decided to take his children out for an ice cream, to celebrate the A's they had both received in a test. Eight year olds Andy and Jack had been so excited.

Perkins looked at his children and felt proud. Both of the boys had come from broken families. His step son, Jack, didn't know who his real father was, and his adopted son, Andy, had been a tool used in the murder of his mother, but both boys were well adjusted. And even though they were the same age, they never fought. Andy might have had a thing for hurting little animals, and Jack kept finding and playing with matches, but it was just things boys did. Perkins was sure they would grow out of it.

On the day in question, Perkins parked his car in the farthest lot from the entrance of Eastgate Shopping Centre. He liked his boys to get the exercise and it would help walking a lot, after the ice cream surprise.

He had just climbed out of his car, when a man approached under the ruse of begging for money. As soon as the man got close enough, he pulled a gun on Perkins.

Perkins tried to calm the man down, but he became spooked when he saw a police badge hanging from the review mirror, and the man fatally shot Perkins.

Both boys witnessed the act. And neither of them could do anything to help. The man threatened to shoot the boys if they made a noise, then he stole Perkins wallet, and fled the scene.

Perkins didn't survive the shot. He was pronounced dead as soon as the paramedics made it to his body.

The boys were left in the not so capable hands of Perkins' wife, Clarissa. Clarissa was Jack's real mother, and Andy's step mother. And she was a horrible woman. The boys grew up in a very abusive household after Perkins had died. They didn't have a father, and they barely had a mother, but they did have each other. And that is how they survived. They moved out at the age of eighteen and found their own place to live. They could finally build a good life for themselves.
