I was sitting in the kitchen working on homework and helping myself to an after school snack of peanut butter when Nick walked in, his arms full of groceries.

"What do you think you are doing?" He said sounding irritated as he set the groceries on the counter.

"Homework?" I questioned, confused by his tone. Nick grabbed the jar of peanut butter and cocked a brow.

"Seriously C, you are out of control, you are up to like a two jar a week habit," he said returning the lid to the jar causing my lip to jut out in a pout. "I told you we are doing dinner with Kev, Dani and the girls tonight, why are you filling up on peanut butter?"

"Sorry," I said with a sigh as he put the peanut butter back in the cabinet. "I'm hungry, I didn't eat lunch."

Nick cocked a brow. "Well, if you would spend your lunch hour more wisely and actually eat instead of kissin' on some stinkin' boy and you wouldn't have that problem."

"We weren't kissing!" I scoffed, Nick nodded his head completely unconvinced. "For your information, we spent the whole lunch hour walking around talking."

"Mmmmhmmm," Nick teased shooting me a smirk as he unloaded the groceries. I responded maturely by sticking my tongue out, Nick chuckled noting my annoyance.

"What would you know about what boys and girls do anyway huh?" I badgered "When was the last time you even kissed anyone?" The boys lack of social life bothered me on many levels, because let's be honest, the less time they spent focusing on their relationships, the more they spent focusing on mine. Not to mention the overwhelming sense of guilt I had knowing that I was probably the reason neither of them were dating, normal girls in their twenties aren't really hunting for a guy with baggage.

"As a matter of fact I have a date on Wednesday," he said returning my mature gesture by sticking out his tongue.

"You do?" I squeaked surprised. "Who? And how did you score a date, you never go anywhere."

Nick decided to brush off my obvious jab at his social life. "Her name is Catherine, and I met her at the store," he said matter-of-factly.

I unsuccessfully tried to suppress a giggle. "I can see it now," I said with a smirk "you both go to grab a melon, her fingers brush yours..."

"The candy store," Nick amended. "I stopped there to get you some of those little gummy bears for the girls, there was no grabbing of melons."

I burst out into laughter almost knocking myself off the stool. "I should certainly hope not Nicholas!" I playfully scolded. "You just met this girl!"

Nick rolled his eyes, his cheeks turning a rosy pink. "ANYWAY," he said trying to distance himself from the current joke on the table, "She owns the candy shop, we started talking and now we have a date on Wednesday night."

I grabbed the bag from the candy shop eager to steal a few of the previously mentioned mini gummy bears. "Dude, she must be pretty," I said cocking a brow.

Nick smirked. "Why do you say that?" he questioned.

I reached into the bag and pulled out the receipt. "$43 on candy?" I said looking into the bag of goodies that could easily put my brother into a diabetic coma. "She does know she sold all this to a diabetic right?"

"No," he said taking the receipt from me. "I don't exactly go up to people and say, 'Hi, I'm Nick, I have a dead pancreas. What's your name?'"

"Why not? I think that is an epic pick up line." I said mockingly.

"She will know soon enough," he said putting the last bag of groceries away. "We are going out to dinner." I shrugged and dipped my hand into the bag of mini gummy bears as Nick's back was turned. "Drop 'em!" he said knowingly before I tossed them into my mouth.

I sighed in frustration putting them back into the bag. "Does she know that you starve children as well?" I asked being snarky. "'Cause I feel that is something that should be disclosed."

"She'll know soon enough," he repeated with a smirk. A diabetic and a candy store owner...the irony was just too much. I wonder if he also conveniently forgot to mention he is raising a kid.

"SO..." I said hoping to change the subject and catch Nick while he was in a good mood. "Would you be up to giving some guitar lessons?"

Nick grabbed the bag of candy off the counter and set it on top of the fridge. "Sure," he said only half paying attention as he grabbed a large pot out of the cabinet.

"Great!" I piped grabbing my homework and hopping off the stool.

"When do you want to work on lessons?" he questioned filling the pot with water.

"How about tomorrow after school?" I questioned throwing my bag over my shoulder.

"Sounds good" Nick said with a smile. "Kevin will be here soon, why don't you go finish your homework so you can help entertain the girls until dinner is ready."

"Ok" I said grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and heading up to my room. Ok, so I wasn't entirely honest about WHO the lessons were for but he would know soon enough and by that time Matt would already be here and he wouldn't be able to say no.
