I had just finished filling out the answer for the last question on my Econ final when the bell rang signaling the end of my last block.

"Alright, that sound means your time is up," announced Professor Davies rounding her desk at the front of the room before perching on the edge and addressing the class with a smile. "Please place your packets in the basket on your way out and have a wonderful weekend, Miss Jonas, I need a word please."

Awesome

I sat quietly until most of the students had made their way out of the room before gathering my bag and shuffling to the front. "You wanted to see me?" I questioned nervously.

Professor Davies smiled warmly attempting to ease my nerves. "I realize that this has to be weird for you with Joe and I dating and I just wanted to talk to you, see if there was anything I could do to make this any less...awkward."

I shrugged returning the smile. "You could always ace my final," I suggested causing her smile to fall. "I'm kidding, it's a small town and my brothers have essentially zero social life outside of school, the odds of at least one of them dating another one of my professors was actually pretty high. Just try to keep school stuff at school and personal stuff personal and we should get along just fine."

Professor Davies smiled again giving me a small nod, "I think I can manage that," she said retrieving my final from my hands and placing it in the basket on the corner of her desk. "Have a good weekend."

"Thanks," I said slinging my backpack over my shoulder, "you too."

Quickly exiting the classroom I made my way to the center courtyard to find Josh sitting on the bench waiting for me as previously planned. "I was beginning to think you forgot about me," he said standing from the bench and taking stride next to me as we headed toward the edge of Chilton grounds.

"Professor Davies held me after class," I explained, "She wanted to know what she could do to make things less awkward for me since she and Joe are now sexing each other on the daily."

"Acing your final would be a good start," Josh said shooting a smirk in my direction.

"That was my suggestion as well; oddly enough she didn't go for it." I said readjusting my backpack on my shoulder. "Oh well, my econ final is in God's hands now."

"Are you sure your brothers are going to be ok with me coming over to hang out?" Josh said taking my backpack and slinging it over his shoulder. "Why is your backpack so heavy, its finals weekend, there is literally no need for books."

"Well yea but this next quarter's syllabuses were posted today," I said plainly.

Josh came to a halt grabbing my shirt and pulling me to face him before cocking a brow in my direction. "Okay and that makes your backpack weigh 30 pounds because?"

"I brought my books home to get started," I defended, "wait, did you leave all your books in your locker?"

"Yes I left them in my locker. Finals weekends are quite literally the only weekends at Chilton that we have no homework and therefore need no books," Josh argued. "Are you telling me that you brought the entire curriculum home so you can get a jumpstart on this next quarters work?"

"Well, not ALL of it, I just usually get a jump on the reading."

"Oh my God," Josh's brows nearly met his hair as he dramatically gasped, "Nope, no books this weekend, this weekend we need to detox from all the studying and do something FUN."

"Is this that agenda you have to corrupt me that my brother's keep telling me about," I teased.

Josh's lips tugged at the corners in a small smile. "There has to be SOMETHING fun to do in this town," he mused ignoring my teasing and taking stride again toward my house.

"There is a party tonight..." I offered shrugging my shoulders.

"YES! A party, that is perfect," Josh said before stopping abruptly again nearly causing us to collide. "Wait, like a real party or one of those lame study parties?"

"A real one, Bree Vance is having an end of finals party tonight, apparently her parents are headed to the city for the weekend."

"Bree Vance," Josh repeated, "do I know her?"

"Everyone knows Bree," I mused, "red head, super pretty, perfect body...ya know, if you are in to that sort of thing."

"She sounds hideous," Josh deadpanned causing me to giggle.

"She is actually really nice," I amended, "Not your typical rich popular girl at Chilton...it could be fun."

"Will your brothers even let you go to a party?"

"I go to parties," I scoffed causing Josh to turn and cock a brow in my direction. "Ok...I went to one party...which really was more of a popular kid hang session BUT I did get in a fight and break Samantha Chase's nose." A smirk tugged at the corners of Josh's lips. "That was when I was with Matt though...and my brothers like Matt."

"So what if you didn't go with me?" Josh offered. "What if Morgan goes and we play it off as a group thing?"

"That's actually brilliant," I mused, "My brothers love Morgan AND she is seeing her boyfriend Jason on the sneak so I could be her alibi."

Josh nodded, "Two birds."

"It's deviant," I cooed, "I like it."

Josh shook his head, "You and I have VERY different ideas of what constitutes as deviant behavior," Josh said as we entered my street "You never answered my question by the way."

"What was your question?"

"Are your brothers going to be ok with me coming over to hang out?" Josh repeated as he slowly followed me up the walkway to my door.

"Oh absolutely not, my brothers hate you," I said turning to Josh and shooting him a smirk, "but you have house privileges and I am not currently grounded so there really isn't anything they can do."

When we entered the house Josh deposited my heavy backpack by the door before following me into the kitchen to find Cat. "Hey, where is Nick?" I said plopping on a stool at the counter.

"He should be back anytime, he ran to the store to get stuff for dinner," Cat said grabbing a small plastic container out of her purse and opening it revealing what looked to be bloody candy. "Delilah is coming."

"Awesome," I deadpanned before scrunching my nose in distaste as Cat scooped a glob from the container and popped it into her mouth. "What on earth are you eating and why is it bleeding?"

"It's not blood its chamoy, this new vendor is looking to stock their small batch chamoy candy in the shop and sent me a bunch of stuff to try and I am completely obsessed," Cat said jutting the container in my direction which I promptly declined, "and I thought you liked Delilah."

"I don't know her."

"Well, you know she makes Joe happy." Cat bargained tossing another glob from the container into her mouth and smiling contently.

"I'm sure she does," I snapped rolling my eyes.

The smile completely fell from Cat's face before she narrowed her eyes toward me. "Finals ended today," She said her tone sharp, "Which means there is probably an end of finals party tonight that you are wanting to attend, amirite?" I nodded sheepishly noting her unexpected change in tone. "If you want my help convincing your brothers to let you go you better change your attitude and be nice tonight."

I glanced at Josh before turning my eyes to Cat. "You will help me?"

Cat shrugged. "Depends, are you going to be nice to Delilah or make things awkward?"

"I will be nice." I quickly promised shooting Cat pleading eyes as Nick walked into the kitchen and deposited his grocery bags on the counter.

"Joshua," Nick said his tone sharp.

"Professor"

"What's for dinner?" I questioned pulling my brothers judgy eyes from Josh.

Nick turned to me and smiled. "Delilah is coming for dinner and I wasn't sure if she ate meat so I figured we would just keep it simple and make pasta."

"Good plan, unless of course she doesn't do carbs..."

I watched Nick's shoulders slump in frustration. "Crap"

"I'm kidding Nicky, she jokes all the time that she will take chocolate as a bribe, I am sure carbs are not an issue for her." I watched my brother's face soften in relief as he continued to empty the groceries onto the counter.

"How do you think your finals went this week?" he asked pulling the large spaghetti pot from the cabinet and filling it with water.

"Good, pretty sure I aced them all thanks to my tutor," I said confidently shooting Josh a smile, "speaking of finals...I was just telling Cat that there is an end of finals party tonight..."

"No."

My lip jutted into a pout. "I didn't even ask you anything yet!"

Nick put his hands up in mock surrender, "I'm sorry, go ahead." he said gesturing for me to continue.

"Can I go?"

"No."

"But," My eyes darted to Cat then back to my brother, "You didn't even think about it." I whined.

"Think about what?" Joe said entering the kitchen and rounding the island to give me a kiss on top of the head.

"She wants to go to the end of finals party tonight." Nick said bringing Joe up to speed on the current discussion at hand.

"Ah," Joe said knowingly, "the one at Bree Vance's house?"

I cocked a brow at Joe. "Yea...how did you know..."

"I didn't know you knew Bree!" Cat cooed.

I whipped my head around to stare at Cat. "YOU know Bree?"

Cat nodded digging another piece of candy from the tub and tossing it into her mouth. "Her parents and I have been friends since Jr. High, I actually used to date her dad."

"Of course you did," I said rolling my eyes, "this town is unbearably small sometimes."

Cat smiled ignoring my comment. "Bree is a sweet girl," she said turning her gaze to Nick, "I think you should let her go."

My eyes darted to Cat in shock of her bold statement before turning to Nick in anticipation of his response.

"You do?" Nick questioned incredulously.

"Sure, why not?"

My youngest brother looked at Cat for a moment in complete silence, "I can think of a lot of reasons why not," he said turning his glare to me, "will her parents be there?"

"Oh definitely not," Piped Cat and I felt my stomach drop, "it's her parents anniversary weekend, they always go to the city."

I growled in frustration "CAT!"

"What?" Cat questioned seeming genuinely confused by the horrified look now distorting my face. "Oh come on Nicholas, she is 16 years old, it's a high school party...of course there won't be parents there and there will definitely be alcohol and maybe even sex," she held the word sex on her tongue much longer than required noting that it made both my brothers visibly uncomfortable, "you cannot shelter her forever, at some point you are going to have to trust her to use her good judgement."

I watched as Nick slowly closed his eyes letting her words sink in for a moment before letting out an exasperated sigh and turning his eyes to me. "Joe and I will discuss it and we will let you know after dinner," he conceded.
