Chipper Mornings

Even though my little chat with Nick turned out much better than predicted, sleeping proved to be a different story; all night I tossed and turned, it seemed like I hadn't even fallen asleep when the alarm went off. I rolled over with a sigh and turned off the alarm before letting out an overly dramatic groan as I stood and stretched. Shuffling around my room I quickly readied myself for school before pulling my hair back into a messy bun and heading downstairs.

"Morning," piped Joe over the edge of his paper as I entered the kitchen, I gave a somewhat audible grunt in his direction as I grabbed the peanut butter and popped two pieces of bread into the toaster. Joe chuckled as I spooned a glob of peanut butter into my mouth and tapped the counter impatiently as I waited for my toast to pop. "Well, you aren't chipper, but at least you are awake...that's a vast improvement."

"Yes, well, I figure if I ever want to have a date again I should probably stop unplugging my alarm clock besides I didn't sleep much anyway," I said as my toast popped and I quickly spooned a few huge globs of peanut butter on one piece before making a sandwich. Joe cocked a brow in my direction as I sat next to him at the island.

"Would you like a little toast with your peanut butter?" he questioned making fun of my breakfast of choice. I rolled my eyes.

"Must you ALWAYS give me a hard time about eating, it's a wonder I don't have an eating disorder with as much as you two nag." I piped before taking a big bite of my peanut butter toast sandwich, a glob of peanut butter falling out the bottom and landing on my plate which I quickly retrieved with a finger. Joe cocked a brow.

"Anyone that consumes as much peanut butter as you do DOES have an eating disorder," He teased only half joking.

"That reminds me, we need more peanut butter and don't buy the regular kind, I like the low fat or the honey roasted," I instructed taking another bite.

"Yes, I am well aware of your peanut butter preference. They were out of everything but the original and the crunchy last time, probably because of you," Joe said shooting me a smirk.

"As if I have single-handedly caused a peanut butter shortage."

Joe cocked a brow, "Well, it doesn't seem like such an impossibility, this is a small town and you go through almost two jars a week."

"I'm a growing girl Joey. I don't ask for much, just peanut butter, that's it," I whined finishing off my sandwich and dipping my spoon back into the jar.

Joe cocked a brow. "Hungry this morning?" he questioned.

"Still playing catch up from being sick," I said taking another bite of peanut butter, "Trying to gain back the weight I lost from all my puking."

Joe sat his paper down looking at me with concern. "How much did you lose?"

I shrugged.

"Three or four pounds I think? I dunno, maybe more." Joe cocked a brow in my direction as Nick walked into the kitchen. "Morning Nicky," I chimed with a smile. "Hurry up, I'm going to be late if we don't get a move on." I said stuffing the jar of peanut butter into my backpack and slinging it over my shoulder before heading for the door.

Nick cocked a brow at Joe jutting a thumb in my direction, "What is she up to, she seems awfully chipper." Joe shrugged.

"I think she is just finally feeling better." He said with a chuckle, Nick shook his head before grabbing his bag and heading out the door.
