Chapter 27

(Sorry it’s taken me soooo long to upload! I’ve been really busy , smile024 :D)

………………………………………………………………………………………

RECAP:

I silently cheered myself in my head as I placed the steaming mugs on my bedside table and walked over to my drawer, sliding my letter into my knickers drawer, where no one would look.

I turned around and watched Ari sleeping with a huge smile on my face, thinking how I could be so lucky to get into the University of my dreams and get the guys of my dreams.

Talk about feeling the need to pinch yourself.

My gaze flicked over Ari’s muscular form as I walked over to his side of the bed where he lay, looking adorably handsome.

Hmmm…. How would I wake him up???

I grinned as a plan came to mind, my gaze travelling along his tanned, muscular back to where a piece of stunning artistry had been permanently inked onto his shoulder.

I was going to find out exactly what that beautiful tattoo meant.

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

I sat for second and thought about how I was going to wake him up… as much as kissing him awake seemed like the most attractive option I knew he’d never talk about the tattoo unless I caught off guard.

While I believe he probably did get the tattoo while drunk – Ari hates needles too much to get a tattoo without it being about something important.

I also happen to know; from past experience when Ari gets really drunk he becomes all deep and starts talking about the meaning of life and if there is an afterlife.

When I used my fake ID to buy us a shopping bag full of tequila, vodka and mixer the summer before last, we’d ended up lying under the sky on the wooden deck that Ari has outside his windows talking about all the deep scary stuff that always seems less serious when your drunk.

I was slightly less drunk and I can specifically remember Ari asking me if I ‘had ever thought about what happens when we die? Will we see each other where ever we go?” in a slight slurred voice.

I can remember laughing as he frowned at me while told him, “of course, who the heck would be annoying you?” and after a while we both fell asleep on the deck with blankets over us. At the time I think Ari was a little stressed about getting the part for an upcoming movie he’d auditioned for and I’d suggested we sneakily get drunk to keep his mind off it.

Just thinking about that night made me smile.

I kneeled on the bed next to Ari , watching him sleep for a second, his smooth tanned back muscles in the hazy morning light contrasting with my purple duvet, his sandy ruffled bed hair and the slight fluttering of his closed eyelids as he slept.

There is no way that Ari doesn’t know what he got inked on his back?

I just don’t buy the whole to drunk to remember thing- cause I know even if he couldn’t remember he would go back to the tattoo parlour and ask them what he had written.

I could bet good money on that.

I glanced at my digital clock that read 11:02 am, and suddenly I got a brain wave as I leant over to my bedside table and grabbed my phone.

He wouldn’t admit it straight off that he got something stupid like ‘ I LOVE SPIDERMAN’ or the soundtrack to a cheesy 80’s song tattooed, so I guess I will just have to trick it out of him I thought, resisting the urge to laugh wickedly at my own genius.

Switching on my phone, I clicked the camera option, leaning forwards so I was hovering over Ari and took a picture.

The loud click of the camera in the quiet room was overshadowed by the bright flash from the camera that lit up the room for a second.Ari’s eyes fluttered open ever so slightly and he looked all cute and confused for a second as his arm stretched out to where I was sleeping and then frowned when he noticed I wasn’t there.

Sooo cute.

“ Ella bear?” he asked sleepily, his eyes still semi closed on the pillow.

“ Mhm” I replied, stifling a giggle as I thought about what I was about to do…

“ Was there lightening?” he asked, his voice laced with sleep as he rolled over not his back still asleep, so I could see his broad, muscled chest where the duvet didn’t cover. I could feel my eyes running over him, and for a second I almost forgot my mission.

“ Nope. That was my camera. It took a picture” I told him, waiting for my words to sink in, grinning as I noticed he had crease on the side of his face where he’d lay on the pillow, making him look really sleepy and sweet.

His brow crinkled for a second in confusion “ Of what?” he murmured.

“ Of your tattoo, silly.” I replied chirpily with a smirk.

“ Huh? My tat?” he asked before he opened one eye, glanced at the clock before he groaned and closed his eyes again. “ It’s too early for talking, back to sleep.” He said groggily, making me smile before I felt his hand on my wrist pulling me down beside him.

“Ohmp!” I landed next to him, my faces inches away from his and his warm arm wrapped around my waist making me feel small and snug.

I chuckled when I noticed he was falling asleep again and pulled on a piece of his sandy hair.

“ Sooo… did you know that there’s an app on my phone that can translate any language you photograph?” I lied in a singsong voice.

“ That’s nice,” he murmured and I smiled as I lightly traced the pillow crease along his cheek, across the slight stubble of his jaw as the corners of his mouth turned up subtly.

Hmmm… I actually really like his stubble…

“ And it just translated that tattoo of yours for me….” I continued to lie.

Ari stopped breathing for a second and I felt his jaw tense before his eyes opened, the sleepiness of a few seconds ago seemed to have disappeared. Instead, I was met with his clear aquamarine eyes boring into mine with a shocking intensity.

I knew he knew what it meant! I knew it! I cheered in my head silently.

Whoaa…. He looked seriously hot like that.

His gaze burnt into me expectantly and I could swear his cheeks looked slightly pinker than before...

“ Oh… so uh… what do you think?” he asked.

“ About the tattoo?” I asked, finishing tracing the pattern across his jaw before I let my hand go back down beside me on the duvet.

“Yeah.” His quiet intensity was a little overwhelming and I felt myself searching for a way to break the silence…ari was usually never so quiet… what the hell was so important?

Why was he acting so weird?

Had he written something horrible on there?

Was it something really embarrassing or offensive?  Please don’t let it be offensive…

Ok… just say something to make him feel better Isobel…

“ I think that it’s funny… besides, it’s not harming anyone I guess?”  I questioned, trying to make him feel better about whatever it was.

He was obviously freaked out about me supposedly knowing.

Geez .. I just wanted to know what it said…

Ari looked at me blankly “ funny?” he murmured, his face had suddenly gone completely blank. Into that slightly unreadable way it does when he’s being interviewed about his personal life.

The face that gives nothing away he doesn’t want you to know.

I hate that look; it’s too closed off, almost like a protective shell.

“ Well, ok, uh you know you could have asked for something worse …it’s not that bad” I could feel myself floundering at what to say, “and it’s not like you can’t get it removed if you don’t want it anymore so I wouldn’t worry about it. You might decide you like Batman in the future… or just get tired of it” I said generally to try and cover my lie, smiling reassuringly.

God… who thought trying to get him to tell me the meaning of a damned tattoo would be so difficult?

Ari blinked and took a deep breath before he said quietly, “ you really think I would get tired of it and want to ever get it removed?” he asked as if I’d told him that he should take out a lung. Then he paused “Wait- batman?”

Then he let out a breath I hadn’t even realised he was holding and his whole body seemed to relax, as he smiled,“ You have no idea what it says do you Ellabear?”

I grinned “ Nope. Not a clue. But now you got all cranky about it, I really want to know!”

Ari sighed, “ You really had me there for a second. I thought there actually was an app” he said and leant forward kissing me softly on the lips.

Why was that such a relief?

I lost my thoughts, as I got lost in the feel of his lips moving perfectly against mine, loving the feel of his hand in my hair, and his arm around my waist pulling me against him. I pulled back smiling, regaining my coherent thoughts, thought nearly every cell in my body wanted to go back to his mind numbing kiss.

“ You know what it says! You lied!” I accused him as I pulled away from Ari’s very distracting lips.

Ari raised an eyebrow and kissed my cheek, his hot breath running over the side of my face “ Pretty much” he replied completely unconcernedly.

“So what does it say? It’s not something completely weird is it?” I asked, looking at Ari’s amused bright blue eyes opposite.

“ I don’t think so. It’s kind of promise for the future.  But it depends… I mean I’m guessing you think it says something about”- he broke into laughter, “batman?” he asked.

I hit his arm “ Shut up! It could do! It’s not like you’d write anything inspired!”

Ari stopped laughing and all of a sudden I found myself pinned below him on the bed, his arms holding my wrists beside my head as he hovered over me with half the covers between us.  His weight on mine was so masculine and completely sexy. If he hadn’t have spoken, I would have done some very shameless ogling of his bare chest.

“ Oh it’s a very inspired tattoo. Too inspired to tell. ” He told me and his eyes glinted with his little secrets.

“ I thought best friends tell each other everything.” I countered, grinning at his serious face.

Ari leant forwards, his lips brushing mine lightly “this is my one exception. Live with it.”

“ Fine. Be like that. You know you’ll tell me eventually.” I huffed, “So … is this promise for the future coming true soon?” I asked.

Ari rolled his eyes upwards as if he was thinking, “ I think it will be a few years or so but I like to think I’ll make it happen.”

I feel my face frown in confusion, “ Well, I hope so too” I told him.

He is one of the most focused people I know.

Ari grinned, looking like I’d told him it was Christmas morning, and “You have no idea what you’re talking about”

“ As long as it’s nothing to do with Spiderman I figure I’m safe.” I said, giggling slightly.

“ I’m going to hold you to that Ella Bear” he said like he was crazy happy, his cute dimple appearing as his eyes shone.  I couldn’t help but grin up at him and then suddenly I could se this serious, heavy emotion rolled over his face, that made my inside clench and my breath catch. Suddenly Ari had caught my lips in the most passionate kiss I’ve ever had, his and running through my hair as the heat of his touch seemed to sear into my lips.

When he pulled away slowly, and rolled over so we were side by side, I lay there shocked, deciding what I could say that wouldn’t make me sound like the totally blown away mess of goo that was.

“ I made you coffee.” I said breathily, resisting the urge to put my fingers to my tingling lips. That kiss had felt different, deeper … I couldn’t explain it.

Ari reached over slightly and took his still warm coffee, sipping it as he sat up against the headboard of my bed. The sheets had rolled down to his waist, leaving the rest of him bare and I was trying not to eye screw him. I lay there next to my best friend and watched the ceiling, enjoying the morning quiet, my acceptance to Columbia and the best morning ever.

After a while I sat up against my headboard too, and switched on the tv with my remote next to my bed.

“ Are you going to make me watch friends re- runs?” Ari asked, smiling over the top of his cup.

“ Shhh. It’s tradition.” I told him, not looking away from the screen, as we watched the Christmas episode when Monica gets the turkey stuck on her head.

“ Bossy” he whispered, making me nudge him in the ribs before we settled into watching the show.

An hour or so later, we wandered downstairs to my kitchen. My parent’s would probably have come back quite tired after working all night and would sleep in a little so we silently put on our toast. I couldn’t keep the grin off my face as I watched Ari walk around my kitchen with the white rumpled t-shirt and grey sweat pants he’d pulled on in case my parent’s came in.

He was looking through my fridge, taking out the orange juice, jelly, and peanut spread and butter as we waited for the toast to pop out of the machine. He was so at home in my place it made me smile. I hadn’t seen him here in my kitchen raiding the cupboards in the morning for so long now, it seemed like this happy surreal dream.

I swung my bare legs back and forwards from my seat on the worktop and blatantly checked out the shifting muscles that moved beneath his t-shirt and his butt.

Thank god he couldn’t see me.

When he turned around he glanced up at me and grinned before he turned and got out the cutlery. And yes, I’m not afraid to say that I was being lazy and letting him get everything out – I had after all just made him coffee in bed.

My part was done.

Ari put two knives on the island, shut the fridge and turned to watch me sitting on the kitchen worktop opposite me, arms folded. “ Thanks for the help Ella bear” he said sarcastically, his cute dimple appearing his lips turned up.

“ No problem.” I replied innocently.

Ari shook his head in amusement and I noticed his jaw clench as his gaze slowly swept up my body, up my bare legs, pausing for a second at his t-shirt I wore, before he stopped at my face.

“ I missed you.” He said matter of fact, still looking at me like … well like he wanted me down to my white cotton.

“ Missed you too” I told him with a satisfied grin as I took in his clenched jaw and his searching blue eyes.

“ It was really weird not seeing you all the time at first. I kept thinking I would see you in my trailer on set, or that you’d be in the kitchenette at the place I rented in Australia, sitting on the work top looking all cute”

He shook his head like he couldn’t believe he was speaking and I could swear his face heated slightly as he continued, “ For a while I used to forget and make a cup of tea as well as coffee in the morning out of habit. It really sucked when I realised I had to pour it down the sink.” His eyes burned into me.

I couldn’t think of anything to say over the butterflies in my stomach. He’d missed me. It was impossible to hide the smile that stretched across my face, as I replied, “ I bet, that’s such a waste of good tea”.

I internally groaned at myself. That was the stupidest answer to the sweetest speech.

Sometimes I wish I had a button I could press so I didn’t say stupid stuff.

Ari gave a bark of laughter and stepped forward, moving between my legs effortlessly, his warm hands travelling up to encase my waist softly.

“I’m glad that wont be a problem for a while.” Ari told me before he leant in and kissed me on my neck, and then he was trailing a line of kissed up my neck, my jaw, making a sweet pathway up to my ear.

I weaved my hands through his hair, pulling lightly, and I felt his groan a little as everything picked up speed. Then Ari’s lips were on mine tasting faintly of coffee and spice as he pulled me forwards on the counter so I pressed against him, my legs instinctively lifting and wrapping at his waist.

Then our kiss slowed, becoming languid and smooth as I savoured the feel of his tongue against mine, the feel of his lips, his hot breath. I could feel my hands trailing down his back until I found the bottom of his t-shirt and slid my hands under feeling the tightening of his muscles under me, and loving that I had that effect on him.

Then the toast popped up in the toaster, breaking our bubble.

Ari pulled back slightly, his forehead against mine and sighed happily before he went over to the toaster and put the two slices on a plate, humming to himself.

I watched him, trying to ignore the butterflies in my stomach and the heat that had pooled in my abdomen from his touch. He spread peanut butter first over a slice and then jam- just the ways I like it, before he made himself his own toast the other way round. Half way through he glanced up at me, his burning look travelling back down to my legs appreciatively before he went back to focusing on spreading the toast.

I mentally noted that Ari seems to have a thing for my legs…. Hmmm.

I examined his profile as he stood across from me, trying to scrape out the peanut butter from the bottom of the jar, my gaze focusing on the shifting muscles under his tanned forearms and his thick muscled arms that looked strong and powerful… his hair was also all cute and mussed up from sleep, making me want to run my fingers through it…

“ He’s not been back for three days and you’ve already got Ari back playing slave?” I heard my dad’s voice break my concentration and I could feel a light blush spread across my face.

I looked to the door to see my dad in his dressing gown with amusement in his eyes as he watched us, leaning on the doorway.

Oh crap! Had he seen me checking out Ari like I hadn’t eaten for about a year?

My dad wasn’t my mum … he was way more observant and he was especially skilled at making everyone feel like he knows what there thinking- or at least I feel he can.

I also know he can read me like a book.

Ari looked up and grinned “ Morning, and yeah I’m back to slave duty.”

My dad shook his head “ your not supposed to be so happy about it, son.” My dad told him jokingly shaking his finger at him before he looked at me with a grin, “ guess I should have known you’d have him wrapped round your little finger again in no time. Not that he’d complain.”

I swallowed, that was exactly the kind of statement my dad makes that has me wondering if he’s psychic or something. Like I said, he’s way too observant.

“ I learnt from the master -mom.” I quipped.

Ari laughed and my dad chuckled as he walked over to the kettle and turned it on.

“ What happened to respecting your elders kiddo?” my dad asked. “ Hey, who am I kidding – respect and Ella just don’t fit in the same sentence. Back me up Ari?” My dad quipped back.

Ari nodded, chuckling to himself as he handed me my toast, our eyes catching and I could see his agreement with my dad.
