Taehyung POV

Today is the day, the final game of the season, the game that will determine everything for us. The game that will determine whether we become champions or not. We have been building up to this moment for months, the entire school year was basically revolved around this.

I have to say, it wasn't easy. The road towards this championship was rocky and we as a team have had a lot of downfalls, especially me. These are my brothers, but I feel like I've lost some of them on the road to this final...

Luckily I have Y/N

It's been months since the incident with Soyeon and I have to say, we needed to learn how to trust each other again. Y/N has been through a lot with her ex, and she had to move past that in order for her to trust me.

I've tried my best to prove to her I'm nothing like him, and after that night we came out stronger than ever. We spend a lot of time together and learned how to not care for other people's opinions, something we both had trouble with.

Soyeon never bothered us again, I only have to see her disgusting face when she's cheerleading, but when I play my focus is fully on the game, and Y/N of course. Most of the girls turned on her after what happened at the bar, they felt like she was going crazy. It just amazes me that they've never noticed that before.

Jennie regained her position in the cheer squad and we have been friendly with each other. We both moved on with people who suit us better, people who make us happier and honestly, I'm happy for her, finally finding the happiness she deserves.

Hoseok finally confessed his feelings for Sunmi, finally chasing his own happiness instead of trying to make other people find theirs. Namjoon and Seokjin are close to graduating and have been planning to get a house around town together.

Jimin and Jungkook have decided it's time to focus on school more, I know, them focussing on school. It's weird seeing the two of them so motivated to reach something they want, but it makes me happy for them. They've put aside their player' desires and decided to grow up.

I'm finishing up my year with good grades, but that's mostly thanks to Y/N. She has been motivating me to do well and to get what I want. She made me realise soccer isn't everything life has to offer me and I should start chasing my dreams instead, that's why I've decided to take a few extra art classes to work on my drawing skills.

Without her by my side, I wouldn't have been able to get through all of this, to chase my own happiness. I'm grateful to have her, I'm grateful I've found the love of my life. I know, it's cheesy, but it truly feels like it, because when you know you know right?

***85th minute***

When I said the road to victory was hard, I meant it. Currently we are on a 2-2 draw, meaning we would lose our title since the team ahead of us in the rankings is up by 2 points, we need 3 to win.

I feel anxious but focussed as I try to work as hard as I can. Everyone seems determined to win as there is a lot at stake, we need this. I try to spot Y/N in the crowd and I can see her cheering me on.

She is wearing my jersey as always, standing up and shouting my name as loud as she can. When she does, I don't even hear the cheerleaders chants anymore, or the crowds shouts, only her. It truly puts a smile on my face and makes me want to do better.

I scan the field, looking for open spots and opportunities. Then, right there, I see a gap as Jungkook starts running towards me with the ball. I signal him to pass it to me and he seems to get the hint, passing me the ball quickly.

I take it and start to dribble with is, running towards the goal. Just as I want to take my shot, two defenders appear in front of me. Think fast tae. I scan the field for passing opportunities and spot Kai, now having a free positions because the defender left him.

2 minutes left

He is close to the goal, only 25 meters, it is our only chance with just mere minutes left on the clock. He sees my gaze and stares at me, waiting for me to do something, until I decide to pass him the ball.

He seems surprised at first, but recomposes himself as he starts making a run for it. He is reaching the goal fast as the crowd starts to get louder and louder, anxiously awaiting the result of our attack, but only for it to end in complete misery.

One of the defenders makes a move for it, slipping in front of Kai and taking the ball, tackling him in the proces. Just as I thought our hopes were lost, the whistle blows and the referee takes out a yellow card, giving it to the defender.

He points the finger to the penalty spot, indicating we earned a penalty as Kai was within the 16 meter area. The crowd erupts as this is our only shot at a victory. I widen my eyes, this is it, the moment we could become champions.

I quickly make my way towards the 16 meter area to discuss with the team. This is important and I can feel everyone is nervous, not wanting to be burdened with the immense pressure that comes with taking a penalty as everyone starts to point fingers.

"What do you mean you don't want to take it Jungkook?? You have one of the cleanest shots!" Chanyeol shouts.

"Yeah but not like this!! You have no idea how much pressure is being burdened on me if I take it and you know I can't handle it!!" Jungkook shouts back.

"Well I know I shouldn't take it, my shot isn't fast enough and I'm predictable" Jimin states, making everyone nod.

"God, this is just way to stressful for me you know" Hoseok says.

"It's stressful for everybody you blithering idiot!!" Namjoon shouts at him.

"Kai should take it" I calmly say, making everybody look at me in silence.

"He was the one who was tackled and would have scored if it didn't happen, we should let him have that glory" I say, making everybody agree.

Kai walks up to me and stares at me, soon smiling at me and patting my shoulder, but he shakes his head at my statement.

"If there is one person in this team who should take it, it's you Taehyung! You are our captain, the one who got us here in the first place and the best player on the team, there isn't anyone better" Kai says, making me smile at him.

Before I even realise it, I'm preparing myself to take the shot. I feel anxious, nervous and pressured, knowing I will be hated if I fail this. The team gathers around me and we make a circle.

"Whatever happens right now, I'm proud of each and everyone of you, you guys are like brothers to me and I respect and love you all" I say.

"Now let's win this bloody game!!" Hoseok shouts, making all of us cheer.

The crowd starts to get silent as I scan it whilst stepping towards the assigned spot. I find Y/N in the crowd already looking at me as I lock eyes with her. She gives me a soft smile and waves, giving me a thumps up.

I smile back at her and mouth an 'I love you' to her. She smiles and mouths it back, also touting 'you can do it'. I am starting to feel more confident as I reach my spot, but my stomach slightly turns as I stare at the goal keeper.

This is absolutely nerve wrecking, waiting for the referee to blow the whistle and let me take the shot. I feel the sweat dripping down my skin as I feel more nervous every single second I have to wait.

Calm down Taehyung, you can do it, just like Y/N said.

Indeed, just like Y/N said, I can do this! A sudden wave of determination comes over me, as the fire starts burning inside my veins, fully focussed on the victory that might await us in just a matter of seconds.

Then, I hear the whistle. Complete silence as I feel like I'm running in slowmotion, nearing the ball with every step I take. I pull my leg back and kick it, watching it fly away as it nears the goal. I anxiously await, did I mess it up or not, closing my eyes for a slight moment.

But when I hear the ball hit the back of the net and the crowd erupt, I open them, watching the ball land perfectly in the right corner of the goal, completely surprising the goalkeeper. Everything after that is a blur as the whistle is blown, indicating the game has ended and we are indeed champions.

I feel myself getting jumped as all of my teammates run up to me, cheering loudly as we have won, full of happiness. The cheerleaders start to do their routine and confetti is shot into the air. It's a full on celebration of us finally being champions.

I hug all of the teammates and celebrate with them before running up towards the crowd with them to celebrate with the school. Everyone is cheering us on and celebrating with us, throwing their hands up in the air and letting their beer get spilled everywhere.

I soon spot Y/N cheering me on at the front and run up to her. She quickly climes over the bleachers and runs up to me too. I soon reach her and lift her up in the air, spinning her around and watching her beautiful smile turn into laughter.

"You did it!! I'm so proud of you Tae!!" She shouts as I put her down.

"I couldn't have done it without you princess" I say as I take her in my arms and hug her.

"I love you, I love you so much" I say before smashing my lips on hers.

"Can I get all of your faces to look at me for a moment and listen?" I shout as everyone turns around to face me.

Currently, we are at Yoongi's bar, celebrating our victory with lots and lots of beer and laughter. It's tradition to properly end the season with a captains speech and I felt like right now is the time to do that before I get too drunk.

I scan all of the faces in front of me and it seems like pretty much everyone is here. I find Y/N's face and she gives me a smile as I stand on top of the bar, already earning complaints from Seokjin because he has to clean that later.

"I know it's cheesy, so I will make this short" I say, making everyone laugh.

"This for sure has been one hell of a season hasn't it?" I ask, earning cheers from everyone.

"We've seen so many ups and downs during our road to this victory! Winning and losing games, loving and fighting with each other, but also resolving some deep underlying issues, something we have never had to deal with before" I say, making everyone nod in agreement.

"But we managed to get through all of that, we managed to resolve our issues to become a better team, we managed to make our team of brotherhood stronger than ever and as a result?" I say.

"WE ARE CHAMPIONS!!!" I shout, making everyone cheer and slam their beer glasses on the tables.

"I know some of us won't be here during the new season next year, some of us will be graduating and others will join our team, new brothers to adopt in our family" I say.

"We have learned from our mistakes and have learned not to take each other for granted, we have learned how to respect and listen to each other, making us work together as a real team" I state, making the crowd cheer.

"I want all of you to take something with you towards the coming year or wherever you end up next" I say.

"I've learned this from someone special, someone who was there for me and only wanted the best for me, someone who made me a better person and made me see what's really important in life, someone I love" I say, locking eyes with Y/N as she smiles at me.

"Life is short, you what YOU feel is right, not what someone else thinks is right for you, as long as you start loving yourself and chasing your dreams, chasing your own happiness, you will come out on top in the end" I say, making everyone nod in agreement.

"So cheers to soccer, cheers to friendship and brotherhood, cheers to chasing happiness and CHEERS TO BECOMING CHAMPIONS!!!" I say, finishing my speech as everyone cheers.

Everyone stands up and starts to applaud, making me smile from ear to ear as we all start to drink our beers and celebrate. I get off the bar and make my way over to Y/N, embracing her in a hug.

"It was beautiful what you did out there Tae, I'm truly so proud of you" She says, making me smile.

"Well, most of it was you since you taught me all of this remember?" I say.

"You told me this when we first started to get to know each other and still do, you have no idea how much you have turned me into a better person Y/N" I say, embracing her cheek.

"I might have pushed you into the right direction, but you are the one who made a change for the better Tae, this was all inside of you already, you just had to love yourself for it to come out" She explains, stroking my hair.

I smile and lean in, placing my lips on hers as she pulls me closer. I grab both of her cheeks and deepen the kiss, showering her with all of my love. As she parts from me she gives me a loving smile, staring deep into my eyes.

"I love you Taehyung" She says.

"I love you too Y/N, let's chase happiness together" I say before pulling her in for another kiss, loving the girl who gave me that ultimate happiness I was always seeking.

A/N: Taehyung and Y/N managed to find their happiness with each other, but there is a reason as to why they did. As you read in the story, Y/N and Taehyung both had their fair share of insecurities and doubts about themselves, constantly questioning everything that went well in their lives. As they started to have feelings for each other and fall in love, they suffered some bumps along the way, even nearly losing each other at some point. But they learned to love themselves throughout the story, something that is perhaps even more important than loving someone else. This is something I've dealt with myself growing up, losing meaningful relationships because of it. That was until I managed to find someone who could bring those insecurities down, making me love myself. When I did, I was able to love him too, give him my all. We have been together for 3 years now and are happy, but that wouldn't have happened if I didn't learn to love myself first. Chasing happiness with someone can only be done once one learns how to chase their own, love themselves and accept their imperfections. That's why Taehyung and Y/N managed to get through it together and get out stronger, they are now able to chase happiness together.

OMG this is the end... I almost feel sad ending this story but it feels right like this... I want to thank each and every one of you for reading this story I've had in my mind for so long and worked extremely hard on <3 I love you all so much and I hope you enjoyed this story and of course the ending!!
