Abby

I was finally home after a long day. It wasn't too bad, but I did have a lot of homework to do. I decided not to call Ashley. She was probably dealing with her move to San Francisco and I didn't want to bother her. I would just call her at the end of the week.

I was done with my homework and I was just lying in bed thinking. I had to find a job soon or else I was going to starve to death. Tomorrow after my classes I would start the job hunt. Then I drifted off and fell asleep.

I woke up the next day and got ready for school. Since I didn't have a car I had to take the bus. I didn't mind public transportation, but I didn't live in the best area of town, so I didn't like being outside while it was still dark. I had a 7 am class today, so it was still dark when I left the apartment. Vanessa didn't have classes till the evening today so I didn't see her this morning.

The day went by smoothly and after my mid-day classes I had a few hours off so I decided to head to a café a few blocks from the school. I'm not much of a coffee person, but I heard that it was pretty inexpensive, so it wasn't a bad choice for lunch.

I was waiting in line, looking around the coffee shop and I noticed the guy behind the counter. Golly, he was cute. I recognized him from my biology class. You can tell girls were flirting with him as they ordered. I could never in my life do that. My anxiety always got the best of me. I barley would make eye contact with people and I would only speak to them if it was strictly necessary.

I was next in line to order and I looked at him for a slight second then I looked down and briefly saw his name tag: Caleb. "Hi what can I get for you today?" he said.

"Uhh, can I get a peach ice tea and a grilled cheese sandwich please?" I said looking down and only making eye contact for brief periods of time.

He smiled at me and said "Sure, that will be $7.89." I inserted my card and as I did he said "Hey don't I know you? Wait we're in the same biology class aren't we?"

"Yeah, I think so." I said looking down at the card terminal. He handed me my items and said "Oh that's cool, we can be bio buddies. See you in class tomorrow" I grabbed my things and just stared at him for a second. Did he really just say that to me?

"Yeah, um ok bye" I said and rushed out of there. Gosh, I'm really not a people person. I decided to walk back to school and have my lunch there. I would have had it at the café but I felt awkward after talking to that guy. It was a totally normal conversation and all, but for a person like me, it's just difficult.

I made it back to campus and I found an empty lunch table. I sat down and started nibbling on my sandwich. Just then I felt a presence behind me and I instantly froze. I knew exactly who it was. "Hey there Abigail. How are you doing?" Chase said be hide me.

I turned around I probably got red as I always did when I talked to him. I sighed and said " Hi Chase."

"Why the sigh Abigail?" he said with a smirk on his face.

"You know why" I said and I got back to eating my grilled cheese sandwich.

"Such a social butterfly as always." He said

"Did you need something?" I asked him.

"Not really, my mom asked me to check up on you."

I looked up at him and said "Tell her I'm fine. You don't need to check up on me."

"Oh but I do. What time is your last class?"

"At 5:30. Why?" I asked him skeptically.

"I get out of football practice at the time. I'll give you a ride home." I was about to object, when he cut me off. "Now I know what you're going to say but I don't give a crap. I'm taking you home."

He knows me well, im the type of person who doesn't like to argue with people. I just sighed and said fine.

"Ok, so I already have your number, let me call you so you can register my number."

My heart sank "How do you have my number?" he dialed my number and my phone rang. He didn't know this but I kind of already had his number. I once secretly got it from Ashley's phone. I don't know why, I wouldn't ever have the courage to call him, but I still wanted to have his number. I looked at the screen and pretended to register it.

"Ashley gave it to me, she said to have you number in case of an emergency or something."

"Oh." Was all I could say.

"Well I'll see you later Abigail. Ill text you." He said as he grabbed my sandwich and took a bite out of it and then walked away. He left me dumbfounded. Did that really just happen? Was he really going to give me a ride later? Golly I really need to get a grip.
