Abby

I was released from the hospital the next day. Chase wouldn't take his eyes off me. He was being over protective. He called his parents and told them not to come to the hospital. That I was being released and that he was going to take me home. Then he called Ashley and told her the same thing. She insisted on coming but Chase convinced her not to.

When we got home I was greeted by everyone. Chase insisted on carrying me inside bridal style. I thought it was ridiculous and embarrassing.

Chase carried me all the way up the stairs and into my room. He laid me on the bed and he sat down next to me.

He wouldn't stop looking at me. "Chase I'm ok." I said smiling at him.

"I thought I lost you for a second." He said staring intensely into my eyes. "I love you Abigail" he said and then he kissed me. I kissed him back. He pulled away quickly. I groaned. "We have to be careful. You just got out of the hospital" he said.

I sighed. "Fine" I groaned. Ashley came into my room.

"Abbs! Scoot over Chase" he said pushing Chase out of the way.

"Hey" he whined.

"Just because you're dating my best friend doesn't mean you can hog her all the time. I hardly get to see her. So get your but out of here" she said as she hugged me. I hugged her back.

I chuckled. "What she need is to rest. Come on let's give her some time to sleep." Chase said.

"Nope. You go ahead and leave. I'm going to stay here with my best friend" she wouldn't release me from the hug.

Chase rolled his eyes "she's my girlfriend you know." He murmured.

"I know.  But you're with her in LA. I hardly get to see her when I'm in San Francisco. Now move it along" she said as she pointed Chase towards the door.

I laughed again "what am I going to do with you two?" I asked them. Chase laughed and walked out the door.

I spent the rest of the day watching movies with Ashley.

The next day I was finally alone in my room. I called the doctors office. They had an opening next week.

Next week I would be back in school so it was perfect. I booked the appointment and sighed. I really hope everything is ok.

The rest of the week went without incidents. I packed up my bags for school and Chase and I headed back to LA.

Ashley hugged me and didn't want to let me go. I promised to call her everyday like I always had to do in order for her to let go of me. I was so lucky to have her as a best friend. I said goodbye to the Mathews and they told me to take care of myself. They really were like my adoptive parents. I was lucky to have them as well.

Like I always did I fell asleep on our way to LA. Chase carried me to our apartment and laid me on my bed. I woke up later in the evening and unpacked my bags.

I found Chase in the living room. He made us dinner and then we watched a movie.

The next day Chase drove me to school. He had a busy day so he was going to be home late, which was perfect because I had the doctors appointment and I didn't want him to know. I didn't have to work today either so things worked out.

I was sitting at the doctors office and the nurse called me in. I was sitting in the examination room waiting for the doctor.

The doctor came in and greeted me. "So I took a look at your blood work Abigail and it's not looking good."

"Please don't scare me doctor what is it?" I asked concerned.

"Well it looks like you have aplastic anemia. It's a condition that's stops your body from producing enough new blood cells. Normally this causes fatigue and you are prone to infections and uncontrolled bleeding. I do need to schedule a bone marrow biopsy to confirm this, but I'm 90% sure its going to come out positive." He said. I was in shock.

"What's the treatment doctor?" I asked.

"Well it depends on the severity. We start with blood transfusions, inmunosuppressants, antivirals or antibotics and in some cases with bone marrow transplant. I do need a biopsy to see how severe it is. There is another issue. You have a pretty rare blood type. It's going to be very difficult to find a donor if needed" he said.

I had no idea what to say or do. I was sick. Really sick from the looks of it.

"What's the prognosis doctor?" I asked him.

"I have to do the biopsy first. Then I'll be able to tell you with certainty." He said. I just nodded. "I need you come in the day after tomorrow and we'll do the biopsy. I'm going to start you off with some medication. Is that ok" I nodded.

I left the doctors office and I had no idea what to do. I needed to relax. People didn't need to worry. I needed to come up with an excuse for  Wednesday. I had to come in to the hospital and I didn't want Chase or anyone else to find out. It was same day care, so I could be back home the same day.

Chase got home and I pretended to be asleep. I couldn't face him. He would know something was up.

The next day he drove me to school. He asked if I was ok and I said I was just coming down with a cold. He looked concerned but nodded at my answer.

I went to work today and Caleb asked me if I was ok. I told him I was and did my best to pretend everything was ok. I asked my manager for tomorrow off. I haven't taken any days off so he agreed.

The next day Chase dropped me off at school. I pretended to go to class for Chase's sake but as soon as he left I ordered an Uber to take me to the hospital.

I arrived at the hospital and the doctor did the biopsy. I left after a few hours. I texted Chase. I told him I had the flu and that I would see him at home. I didn't want him to worry. I told him I was just fine.

He got home later that evening and rushed to my room. I told him I was feeling a lot better. He didn't seemed convinced but he didn't push me any further.

The days went by and I got a call from the doctor. "The test came back positive Miss Avery. I do need you to come to my office to discuss treatment options with you" was what he said. I made an appointment for tomorrow.

Chase took me to school the next day. I did the same thing as before, I pretended to go to class and I ordered an Uber to the doctors office. I was in the waiting room. The doctor finally came in.

"Miss Avery I'm afraid I have some bad news. It seems that your condition is pretty severe. Now I don't mean to scare you but you do need a bone marrow transplant. That's your best option. The problem is going to be to find a donor. As I said before you have a rat blood type and it's going to be difficult to find."

"What happens if I don't get the transplant?"

"Well this condition is treatable and  people can live a normal life if they receive a bone marrow transplant and immunosuppressants for some time. But unfortunately your case is severe, if you don't receive the transplant you might die. I suggest we immediately put you on the donor list and see if you have any family that can take the test to see if they are a match, that would most certainly help" he said.

I looked up at the doctor "so let me get this straight doctor. If I get the transplant, I have a shot at a normal life, if I don't.... I could die?" I asked with tears in my eyes.

"Yes Miss Avery" he said.

"We need to set you up with medication and appointments for transfusions as soon as possible and hopefully we can find a donor soon." He said.

I nodded and took the prescription and walked out of the doctors office and headed home.
