"Unknown to her, she made a mistake that would change her life entirely..."

Her room, when she walked into a familiar space, was surprisingly clean. Her bed was made, her quilt sticking out in the calm room, her dresser and desk were dusted, a thin coat of dust recently removed. And as she glanced down at the floor, she felt the soft carpet when she curled her toes. It was exact since the last time she was here, if not cleaner. She was silent like the rest of the apartment when she crept deeper into her room, almost afraid that if she touched anything, she would cause severe damage.

"You're hesitating," Emmett muttered from the door, watching as his mate jumped slightly at his voice. Ignoring this, he walked forward in her room, looking around at her knickknacks before letting his eyes fall on her form. "There isn't a reason to be hesitant, Dani. Relax." It took a while, but her shoulders, which were tense and pulled taught, fell. Daniella didn't look back at him but instead wandered all around her room, pulling open a drawer and peering inside before closing it. Just small movements, she bubbled in her head. Small movements.

Emmett snorted behind her, "You're acting as if you're in a museum, woman." It was true and when he said this, she grew a smirk. However, instead of showing him her lips forming into such a shape, she continued on looking around her room. It seemed like it was centuries since she walked in here, she felt like a stranger in this room. In her own home. On the walls throughout the halls, her pictures still laid there, but now Adam was more popular there. Daniella counted st least four new pictures of him. One with him and Summer on the beach in La Push and another of him at his own graduation.

He's part of the family now, her conscious reminded her. He's going to be your brother-in-law. Of course, Adam was a gentleman. She always cared for those around him and had a talent of making anyone smile, but sometimes she got jealous. He was taking away her sister. Her life long best friend. Together the two of them would grow old, they would have children, grandchildren, they would have a big house at the end of a culdesac. A white locket fence would be stretched around their house, a dog would be on the porch, lazily watching as the neighbors passed. She could imagine Summer, heavily pregnant with Adam on her side, kissing her cheek lovingly as they awaited their child or even children.

Unconsciously, Daniella shivered at that idea. Summer would have everything. Daniella's hand fell from its place on her curtains; she wouldn't have that at all. No children. No marriage. No house at the end of the culdesac. She was a vampire, a creature that people feared. The dream of her life was now completely gone. At least I have him, she thought in her head as she finally turned around to face Emmett. His head was buried in an old yearbook of hers. She grinned softly, at least I have you.

He didn't notice her stare on him, so she turned back around and peered outside the window, noticing how the tree Emmett and many others use to get inside her bedroom was alive again. Its branches colored heavily in different shades of green, the bark a vibrant yet dull brown color. Opening her window with an ugly screech, she leaned outside, making sure no one was around and when no one was, she jumped, catching onto the piece of nature. The grunt that escaped her lips made her mate drawl near her, gasping as he saw her make her into the tree. The tree was hiding her, pulling her away and hiding her from the world. In there, she felt protected. She felt secure.

"Dani?" Emmett questioned with a laugh, edging himself out the window. "What the hell are you doing?"

Falling from a branch and landing gracefully on another, she shot him a toothy smile. "Climbing, duh. Come on, join me. We can act like we're kids again." The idea sounded childish to him, however, Emmett was classified as the childish Cullen so when he heard her say that, he was tossing himself out the window. Well, until the house phone started ringing and he had to excuse himself. Left alone in the tree, Daniella sighed as she waited for him. Her mind was somewhere else as she played with the leaves of the tree, snapping a few twigs here and there. It distracted her from the panicked voice of Emmett.

"Hey!" She jerked her head towards him suddenly. When his voice entered the atmosphere, holding a tone of stress and urgence, she quickly grew worried. Instantly, she was by his side, giving him a hurried look. "We need to go. Now." And before she could ask anything, he was hauling her over his shoulder and zooming out of the house, running through the forest in a blur.

"...as you can see here, Tom, there's the kid and woman, walking down the street without care and suddenly... there! She's gone in a flash. Now how is this possible? People down in La Push are also worried, a home town near Forks, for their children. A strange woman has entered the field and now their beyond frightened. Could this just be some trick or something related to a secret project? No one knows. Many have come to identify her as high school student, Daniella Morgan, a senior of Forks High School-" The television was flashed with a black screen, signaling it was turned off. Everyone in the room was silent, except for the quick breaths of Daniella as she raked her hands through her hair, mortified for what happened.

The security cameras, she thought over, cursing to herself. The damn security cameras; how could you forget about that?! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. "Daniella," Carlisle sighed, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder which she relaxed to. "What happened was an accident." However, his words didn't help her and she found herself slipping away into a panic attack. Shivering, she shivered heavily. Esme's arms wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her into her chest that reminded Daniella so much of her late mother.

A layer of tears covered her eyes, yet they never fell. Her body contracted, shivering as she felt fear circle her entire frame. Her lips, soft and held a pale rose color trembled. Panic. She could feel clear panic as she listened to Esme sooth her.

"We'll get through this," she curled a strand of the girl's hair before running her nails on her marble back. The soft-touch made her smile a hint before her lips fell once again.

Everyone in the room was silent. All except Daniella and Esme. Whispers and whimpers escaped them and as much as Emmett wanted to reach over and let her curl into his body, he let his adoptive mother do that job.

It was like that for minutes until Edward stood up, clearly frustrated. It wasn't due to the situation that they were in, but how Daniella cared to blame herself. Many would claim that this was no accident, that Daniella Morgan was acting childish and not paying attention. But Edward claimed otherwise. He looked over yo everyone, his eyes holding a fearful idea.

"The Volturi. There is no denying that they would like to speak to us," his voice was strong and delicate at the same time. His voice fell into a whisper, "They're going to want to meet, Daniella." The room became stiff. Carlisle stood up suddenly, holding a troubling look as his eyes met Edward's topaz ones. "You can't deny that, Carlisle. The video is all over the media."

His words triggered Daniella, making her hands grasp on Esme as if they were drifting away.

"Edward," Esme drawled, her face stern and her voice full of warning. "We'll make them believe it was all of a hoax. The video was just a project, let's say. We will do everything in our power to make them believe otherwise." Edward watched as Esme dropped her gaze, focusing on Daniella.

Edward bit his lip, making small wrinkles appear. "We need to discuss this at a later time," he mumbled, "Alice,  we should check on Summer. If reporters come to her home, we take care of them, alright?" The small, dark-haired girl gave a small nod, her tiny hands moving her dark locks behind her ears. "Summer will be taken care of," his eyes lingered on Daniella as he said this before dashing out of the home with Alice.

"Let's head upstairs, Dani." Esme lifted the both of them to their feet, wiping away at her skin, but stopped when she realized there were no tears. She felt regretful as she pulled away to only circle her hands around her as the flew up the stairs. Down below, alone to themselves, Carlisle ran a hand through his pale locks.

The doctor's voice was full of hesitation, "This is a serious situation. The Volturi, yes, they'll want to speak with us..." He fiddled with the buttons on his wrist. Rosalie grumbled in response, sending a small glare to everyone in the room, but the anger wasn't because of her family but instead of the media who exposed Daniella. Accidents happen. In this case, however, it's much more severe.

Alice Cullen sucked in a harsh breath suddenly, catching everyone's attention as if she had a leash around all of them and snapped the tail of it. "Vision," Edward clarified, coming over to stable his sister as she wobbled slightly. Her amber eyes were drizzled, holding fog inside of her irises. Quietness filled the room, the only noise being the harsh winds that struck the house. When she finally escaped her vision, she sucked in another harsh breath, catching everyone's attention once more.

She licked her lips, gripping into the dress she wore. "The Volturi... they know." She raised a chill hand, Jasper quick to place a pencil within her hold before laying a paper before her. Then she rolled into a rhythm. Her sketches were messy yet precise as she created a scene. There were a floral ground, grass and an assortment of flowers covering for acres. Surrounding by the grassy floors were trees that ascended into the skies. Then there were the hidden men. They were the darkest part of the sketch. Hidden behind bundles of dark cloaks, close together and it made chills run up the deads' spines. "They will arrive here, Washington. They arrive soon, eager to meet Daniella a-and..."

"And what?" Emmett barked, suddenly growing more anxious by the minute. His feet carried his heavy body as he neared his adoptive sister, glaring down at her sketch as if it was the most venomous thing he had ever witnessed. The paper was snatched in his hands, a snarl coming to form on his lips. "They came to kill, didn't they?"

A gand was rested on his shoulder. Emmett reared his head back, staring into the eyes of the coven leader. "The future can always change. We'll make them believe otherwise." Quickly, he retreated his hand, placing it in his pockets. "They will see another way," inside his mind, Carlisle added another wore to the end of his sentence, hopefully.

The mind-reading Cullen breathed heavily as he took the paper from Emmett, looking deeply at it. "We guard Daniella, they won't be too nice." In his head, the figure of Jane bloomed and he found himself crumbling the paper. "Aro will have deep interest since she is a mute with the slight ability to make people speak what she wants. It was her most prominent trait of hers when she was human, her visible and undeniable shyness. A mute having the ability to make others speak what they want isn't that rare and something tells me Aro will be very excited to see her."

Emmett wanted to block out their voices, only focusing on one word: Volturi. It made shivers run down his skin, making him grip the pockets of his jeans, his face crunching into disbelief and fury. "I will beat their asses-"

"-Emmett don't," Rosalie ordered, her heels clicking against the wooden floor as she neared him. "Daniella will be protected by us. No fighting should be involved," her voice was heavy. She let her golden eyes disappear as she took a deep breath. Then she added, "You care deeply about her, she's your mate, yes. The feeling of protecting her is there and will always be there."

Though the blonde and dark-haired immortals struggled to pinpoint their relationship after Daniella entered all their lives, they decided without talking that they needed to work together. The strongest Cullen jerked his head back, nodding curtly before looking on outside.

Emmett's voice was hoarse, "When will they arrive, Alice?"

The said girl grew quiet, trying her hardest to tell when the group of immortals would arrive. Emmett stood there, watching her intensely and when she opened her mouth, she let out two words,

  "By dawn."
