Chapter 18 (part 2)

As the wood cabin looms into view, Katy knows the time has come for her to focus, to push aside the nerves and worry and to fully focus. With her heart pounding loud they make their way over to the cabin. Mason clutches onto her forearm and drags her along, all as an act to downplay their relationship. No doubt if Richard hears of that, then the stakes would be raised much higher and Mason knew the sadistic bastard would probably hurt his Katy right in front of him.

His eyes scan to see men around 4 men patrolling the house with shotguns at their sides. Good thing he’s anticipated that. Cale’s the one to open the door as they knock.
“Check him,” orders a voice from inside the house to Cale. Cale gives an apologetic look and pats down Mason, brushing past the phone and ignoring it. The setting had been sent to ring Cole as soon as the Mason taps the screen and that’s when the gang will attack.
“All clear,” grunts back Cale stepping aside to let Mason and Katy through.
They step into the lounge where the infamous Richard is stood at. He flashes a smirk at Mason before Katy captures his interest. His posture shifts, to a more predatoral one. Eyes rake slowly up her form, making Mason grit his teeth in anger.
“So lovely to see you again, sweetheart,” snarls Richard at Katy with a mocking smirk that sends chills down her spine. Her body wants to lean into Mason but for the preservation of the performance, she has to remain still and brace it all.
“Where is Cassandra?” coldly cuts off Mason, anything to gain Richard’s attention away from his mate.
“Ah..Cassandra..Cale, go get her,” snaps Richard, dismissing the man immediately. Mason sees Richard’s hand go to pat his pocket slightly, no doubt reassuring himself of the gun in there. Mason could move now, but it’s not time yet. No everything has to go to plan.

Cale hoists Cas’s hand around his shoulder, looping his arm around her waist.
“Lean into me,” he softly tells her, “we have to make this look believable.”
Complying Cas leans most of her weight onto Cale, making sure to drag her ‘wounded’ leg and lightly shut her eyes.
“Is Mason here?” she whispers to him as they make their way down the stairs.
“Yes, and so is Katy. Don’t worry, Mason has a plan...I think,” reports Cale in the same hushed tone.

Mason’s eyes assess Cas’s weak form. Dried blood...he concludes. Suppressing the smile Mason could feel on his face, he reaches in his pocket and presses the send button on his phone. A few minutes from now, Cole and the others should have taken care of Richard’s friends. Which leaves Richard for Mason and Cale. Perfect.

Richard orders Cale to hand over Cas and paired with the warning look from Richard, Cale reluctantly shifts over Cas with a small apologetic look directed at Mason. Cas tries her hardest to keep up with the act of the distressed and injured woman but, with such a high intensity situation her senses are on edge.
“Looks like you arrived just in time, another few minutes and it seems like she’d be unreachable to just about anyone...or so it would seem...” muses Richard and before Mason nor Cale can react, Richard’s pulled out the gun and fired a silver bullet at Cas’s other leg. Cas’s eyes open wide in shock, her lips parting a cry and the burning surging through her again. Her wolf spirit is cut off from her abruptly and she gasps trying to cope with the pain of the bullet.
“Did you really think you can fool me, Cassandra? Really? No more games!...Give me Katherine and you may treat your little pack member,” growls Richard. Mason feels his heart pounding double time, but he has to try and remain calm. He feels himself torn. On one hand help Cas but give up Katy, or...leave Cas to die in Richard’s arms and keep his mate.
“You have to the count of three before this next bullet goes through beautiful Cassandra’s heart,” callously states Richard starting his counting, “one....two...th-”
Before Richard can spill the words ‘three’, Katy has broke out of Mason’s hold and gone to Richard.
“Give her over,” she dispassionately pronounces.
“See that Mason, she belongs to me. Even she knows she's mine,” grins Richard, tossing Cassandra to Cale and nodding at him to hand her over to Mason.

Just then, Cole and other pack members burst through the front door. Some were in their wolf forms, snarling and gnarling at Richard and Cale, whilst others, remain in their human forms, covered only by board shorts.
“Take her back and make sure she’s okay,” instructs Mason handing Cas over to Justin and handing him the car keys. Once Mason’s sure that Cas will be safe, his attention turns solely onto his mate. Richard has her pinned against his body, her back pressed flat against his chest. The cold black nozzle of the gun pressed against her temple, while one arm is clamped over her torso, restraining her.
“Don’t even think about it. One false move and the death of this innocent woman is on your conscious,” says Richard, his eyes darting around the room to all the people against him. Which is just about everyone.
“You won’t shoot her,” retorts back Mason causing Richard to smirk.

“Won’t I?” he asks positioning his head beside hers, “‘til death do us part, my dear, isn’t that right?”
The crazy fool! Screams Katy’s mind. Not only will he kill her but he’ll also kill himself in the process. After all the bullet won’t just magically stop after it’s gone through her.
“Why would you do that?” questions Mason astonished. The man truly is psychotic! What kind of...mentalist would kill not only his tortured victim but also himself?!
“You just don’t understand, do you? You never will! She is mine! I own her. If I can’t have her, then no one can! She’s mine...she’s all mine.” His voice is calmed to a soft chant by then, whispering his possession over Katy into her hair. She feels tears begin to form. What on earth has she done to deserve this?

“Okay....okay, Richard. Fine...she’s...yours,” sighs Mason, he has to tread carefully. The man is clearly not in the right mind. There has to be something mentally wrong with him; he’s not just some sick freak as Mason had first thought.
“Damn right. Now just...leave. I need to...I have to...” he doesn’t finish his sentence too lost in his urges to hold his toy. Hands grope around her waist, lips digging into her hair to her neck and urgently gasping at the flesh between tendrils of hair. Katy gulps as she keeps her body stiff and unresponsive. He uses the nozzle of the gun to swivel her head to face him and before she can protest, his lips enclose around hers in a harsh embrace. They fiercely chew away at the flesh of her bottom lip, causing her to gasp in shock and pain. This only allows his spiked tongue to dart in her mouth and dominate roughly over her.
Enough is enough, decides Katy. She’s done waiting for someone to come save her. Mason clearly can’t at the moment, and besides, Richard is her problem and she has to find the solution to that problem. It has to be now, she can’t face more years at the mercy of his hands. She won’t. She’d rather die trying to break free than not even try and fail.

With the determination set in her mind, she twists her body into Richard. Then brings her knee up and crashes it into his most prized tool. As he yelps into her mouth and pulls back, she uses the opportunity to seize the armed hand and raises it upwards, causing the bullet to shoot to the ceiling rather than through her skull.
Cale being closest to Richard, reacts quickly as he encases Richard’s arms behind his back at his elbows and immobilises him. As they struggle, Katy escapes from his grasp and shuffles backwards. As she collides into Mason’s chest he glances down momentarily and places a quick soft kiss on her lips.
“Mark, get her back. I’m sure Richard can provide you with a vehicle,” calmly states Mason, aiding Katy to Mark with a gentle push at her spine. Mark gave Mason an understanding look, he realised Mason wants him to hot wire a car which Mark’s past enabled him to easily do just that.
“Wait-Mason...please remember what you said,” begs Katy gazing intently into Mason’s hard blue eyes. They soften slightly as he gives a stiff nod, despite his clenched jaw of disapproval. After the little stunt Richard just did right before his own eyes, all he wants to do is pound the bastard to death but...his word to her means more than anger fuelled revenge.
“Here,” hands Cole the gun, plucked right from Richard’s hands. Mason grimaces and empties out the clips in it, right before snapping it in half.
“Now everybody except Cale...you know what to do,” instructs Mason causing Richard to momentarily slacken in Cale’s hold.

“You actually care for that bitch?” snarls Richard replaying the soft kiss, Katy and Mason shared with rage firing his blood.
“Cale, if you would,” nods Mason totally ignoring the buffoon before him. Cale does as Mason requires and releases his hold on Richard, right before sending him flying to Mason. Mason easily catches the man and lands a satisfying punch to his cheek, the force causing the crunching sound of his cheekbone breaking. Richard pulls himself off the ground and spits the blood to the floor before swinging at Mason. Being much more skilled, stronger and better than Richard, Mason easily dodges the attack and lands his own to Richard’s torso, sending him to the ground again. Richard kneels up, panting as he tries to gain his breath and shut out the throbbing pain. He laughs shakily and stands to his feet.
“Go ahead. Hit me. It’s not like it’ll change anything. I may have underestimated your closeness with her but don’t underestimate what Katherine and I have between us. Does it burn you to know that I was her first?-”
This time the punch to his jaw is what sends him to the ground but like a true manic he picks himself up and laughs painfully again.
“That I was the first to delve into that hot, sweet, pus-”
More blows send him to the ground and this time before he can pick himself up, Mason is on top raining down punches.

Mason only rises up and watches dispassionately as he keels to his side and coughs up more blood.
“You’re one sick, motherfucker. You don’t even deserve to be alive,” spits Mason towering above the injured man and feeling no remorse whatsoever.
“Well then...what are you waiting for...end me already...I’ll admit...I’ve had more than my fair share offun...at the expensive of a certain...charity case you seem fond of...” chuckles out Richard in broken pants from his chest pain. Even on his death bed the fool just can’t keep his mouth shut. But Richard already knows it’s his end and he may as well have fun with that. At least he’s left his mark on his wife and that’s enough for him. He’s had fun with her. More than his life’s fill.
“End you? Actually Richard, I wanted to give you a chance...Tell me where Mr McCoy’s mate is and I’ll spare your life,” bargains Mason causing Richard to groan as he considers it. Would it really be worth living? He’s already decided to die. So what’s the point? The point...a dark corner of his mind reminds him, is so he can get back his possession. If he’s to die, she has to die, remember? He tells himself.
“...Louisiana, near the Lake Charles Re-Regional Air-...port..” gasps Richard. Mason nods lands one last punch to Richard before rising up.

Richard groans and shuts his eyes, body breathing deeply in relief, right before a kick came to his side. He grunts and spews yet more thick crimson liquid from his puffy lips, before slowly opening his black and blue eyes. He sees the blurry silhouette of a man and snorts in disgust.
“I see your word is worth as little as that bitch,” he shakily whispers out, but it’s not soft enough and Mason catches it.
“I said I wouldn’t kill you...however Mr McCoy on the other hand...well, he’s a little pissed off with you,” sarcastically explains Mason as the realisation dawns on Richard. Again ghostly chuckles come from Richard as he slowly wags a crooked finger at Mason.
“Very good...good loophole...but you forget. I will always own her. She will...always be mine,” murmurs the man. Mason tries reigning in the anger before nodding at Cale.
“Let’s see how well you can 'own her' while burning in pits of hell,” coldly snaps Mason right before Cale releases his fury on the man who’s kept his wife enslaved, torturing her as well and him as an errand boy.

All Mason can do is stare at the body. Blood and bones; that’s all that’s left of Richard Dixon now. Mason had sat in the recliner and watched as Cale shifted into his chocolate brown wolf and savagely ripped apart the bastard. No amount of screams or crunching bones or tearing muscles could make Mason stop Cale. He felt no...guilt allowing Cale to shred the devil himself to pieces. No, Richard didn’t and still doesn’t deserve Mason’s anguish or remorse. Right now all that could be seen of the once sadistic Richard Dixon is just blood matted hair, torn pieces of cloth, slashed organs, protruding white, snapped bones and...open cloudy, pale blue eyes. Eyes that are the only thing that remains intact. The wolf circles the flat piece of flesh and licks the blood off its snout. Mason sees Cale slowly shift back into his human form and gaze up at him, asking for instructions.

“We’re going to burn this place to the ground. Is there anything you need?” enquires Mason.
“His phone,” replies Cale.
“Take it. Take whatever you need and go find your mate,” replies Mason relieved for Cale that he could finally rescue her.
“Thank you...for all you’ve done and for...letting me kill him,” spits Cale. Mason just nods and rises out of the seat as Cale leaves. With the front door closing the rest of the pack, realise the fight is over and come inside to ask for further information.

“Mason?” one of them warily enquires. They could see the man was exhausted. The whole affair clearly having taken a mental and emotional toll on him even if it hasn’t affected him physically at all; not that they expected it to. What chance has a mere human got against an angry Carter anyway? None. They can firmly conclude seeing the mess of a dead body laid strewed in the centre of the lounge.

A/n a few more chapters then an epilogue and this story is done! Wooo. Hope you guys liked this one. The aftermath of Richard's death and some loose ends will be wrapped up in the next chapter probably.
