The Break's Purchases

During the time spent in that one clothing store, which was well over two hours, Edgar had handed her probably thirty dresses to try on after the pink one, not to mention the two dozen pairs of shoes. Of course, she had refused to try them all on, but she had ended up doing so in the end. This was due to the fact that Edgar wouldn't let her leave the dressing room until every last dress and shoe had been worn. Once she had finished trying on all the dresses and shoes, she just had the urge to leave the store and sit down at a relaxing coffee shop for awhile.

This didn't happen immediately, however, since Edgar had asked her to try several of the dresses and shoes back on again. Not letting him win this time, she took almost all of the dresses and shoes away from him and put them back on the shelf. She had handed him the first dress and a matching pair of one-inch wedge heels before stating that they were going to leave the store after purchasing them. The male had protested against this, but she had convinced him that there were other clothing stores that they could go to.

Thus, they were now sitting inside a small café, which happened to be a few doors down from the clothing shop. The red brick walls and paintings of various wild flowers set a peaceful atmosphere, as pale green pendant lights illuminated the space. Their painted navy blue chairs had comfortable green cushions on them, which permitted (f/n) a nice seat for relaxation.

To add to the comforting climate of the café, her hot caramel macchiato really hit the spot. Her hands were wrapped around the blue coffee mug, as she leaned back in her chair. Edgar sat across from her, taking occasional sips of his iced salted mocha caramel coffee. He stirred the orange and white striped straw in his drink, as the ice cubes swirled around in the clear glass.

Luckily, there weren't too many customers in the café at the moment, so they didn't receive as many stares like they did on the streets. Still, there were some other customers. It was quite embarrassing when some of the male customers came to compliment her. Granted, it wasn't their compliments that were abashing. Rather, it was the way that Edgar reacted. The glare, which graced his countenance, made things somewhat awkward, especially since his tone became threatening when he told them to walk away.

At the same time, though, she found it somewhat amusing at how jealous he got whenever that would happen. This backfired, however, when she heard some female customers whispering about Edgar and how attractive he was. She didn't glare at them, but she would grab her coffee and sip at it several times. Still, a rather displeased expression decorated her face, and Edgar easily took notice of this.

"Something wrong with me receiving compliments, (f/n)?" he eventually asked, as a smirk tugged at his lips.

Grumbling out an inaudible response, she took another sip of her coffee. At least there weren't any more customers at the moment. A few chuckles left Edgar's mouth, and (f/n) decided to add, "I just wanted some quiet, and they were ruining it. That's all there was to it."

"Oh? What about when those men were complimenting you? You didn't seem to mind that too much. Shouldn't I receive compliments from strangers when you're allowed to?"

"You hardly permitted them to compliment me; you looked like you were ready to kill them. I didn't do anything when those women were giving you flattering words. I just drank my coffee," she countered, now finished with her drink.

"Yes, and you seemed like you wanted to crush that coffee mug of yours. Regardless, I'm glad that you don't want other women complimenting me. It's nice to know that you're protective of me," he responded, drinking the rest of his beverage.

She just blushed slightly and remained quiet. As for Edgar, he stood up from his chair before pushing it in. After she did the same, she followed Edgar out of the café. Frankly, though, she didn't know what store they were heading to next, but she did catch site of another store across the street. Edgar must have seen it as well, since he started to take her towards it. Hopefully, this time he wouldn't give her so many things to try on.

Upon entering the clothing shop, she already found Edgar guiding her to a certain section of the store. Not to her surprise, it was towards the dresses. These ones were thankfully less expensive than the previous store's prices. She really didn't want him buying her a lot of costly items.

Regardless, when she glanced over to Edgar, she saw him searching through the many dresses. It was honestly entertaining to see a man in his twenties searching through dresses with a serious expression on his face. If she didn't know him, she would probably think him to be some creep. That wasn't the case, however, so she just stood by and smiled at his action.

For just a moment, she glanced around the area and spotted a dress that she thought that she may like. Well, she knew that she favored it. In fact the more that she looked at it, the more she grew to adore it. While Edgar was busy, she walked over to it but glanced at the price tag first. Her eyes grew wide. There was no way that she was going to have Edgar pay that much for a piece of clothing. Quickly, she went back over to where he was.

He had picked out several dresses for her. Once he handed them to her, he instructed her to go change into them one by one, so that he could see what they looked like on her. Knowing that there was no use in arguing, she did as he requested and began to change once more. Throughout her miniature fashion show for him, she also tried on several pairs of shoes.

Just so that she could be done with trying on clothes, she picked out five dresses and pairs of shoes, which Edgar seemed happy with. Besides, they weren't too pricey. He had to approve of her choices as well, though. After he scanned through her picks several times, he nodded his head and went to the register to pay. (F/n) stood next to him but didn't make eye contact with the woman at the cashier register.

Like in the last store, she was receiving an envious gaze from the cashier woman. She somewhat wished that she could explain the situation to the cashier woman, but she had a feeling that would only make things worse. Unlike the last cashier woman, however, this one confronted (f/n) on it.

Bagging the clothes and shoes, the woman let out a lengthy sigh. "Such a shame that these clothes are going to waste on someone who doesn't appreciate them. They're so beautiful, but ..."

"I suggest that you don't finish that statement unless you want your manager to know how terrible you are with customers. I have no problem with getting you fired. Besides, you'll lose quite a large sale. Wouldn't you like to have one of the most expensive pieces in this store sold? I'm sure that would look good on your list of sales," Edgar interrupted, as a smile pulled at the corners of his lips and a threatening gleam crossed his visible eye.

Confused by the last part, (f/n) questioned, "Wait, what are you implying, Edgar? Just what are you intending to buy? I don't need anything else."

Peering over and down at her, he answered with a gentle smile, "I noticed the dress that you were admiring earlier. It was evident that you found it stunning. It's the first dress today that I've seen you admire so much."

"The price, though, it's too much," she contended.

"She doesn't deserve such luxury," the woman mumbled, as she continued to bag the last dress and pair of shoes.

Catching the woman's words, Edgar turned back towards her, as a scowl set upon his lips. With no warning he grabbed the phone on the woman's desk. It picked up immediately, since it was the store's phone line. "May I please have the manager come to the front desk?"

A horrified look crossed the woman's face, as she began to apologize profusely. "I didn't finish that one sentence of mine. I didn't, and I apologize for my last comment. Please, I'm sorry." She continued to say things along this line, while they waited for the manager. The woman even attempted to cancel Edgar's request. Edgar wouldn't allow that, since he held onto the phone until the manager arrived.

When the manager came, she glanced over at her worker with a questioning gaze before looking to Edgar and (f/n). "Sir, you know that you're not supposed to use that phone."

"It was an urgent matter," Edgar responded, his gaze taking on one of a neutral calm.

"And what would this urgent matter be? I see nothing serious happening here. Of course, I do see that my employee looks rather nervous. Just what is this about?" the manager inquired, keeping a relaxed tone as well.

In the brief amount of time that the manager waited for Edgar's reply, there was a heavy tension in the air. Despite the manager's calm countenance, there was irritation present in her eyes. As for the cashier woman, she was beside herself with worry. (F/n) just wished that Edgar hadn't started all of this.
