Erin Evans had only been in love twice in her life.

The first crush she ever got was on Charlie Weasley, captain of the Gryffindor quidditch team. Although he was a solid four years older than her, that didn't really stop her from fawning over him every time she watched him win another quidditch match. Charlie left school two years ago though, before Erin ever even talked to him, so her crush died down as quickly as it had come.

She seemed to have a thing for Gryffindor quidditch captains, as Charlie's successor had even more of an impact on the Hufflepuff girl. Oliver Wood was Erin's second crush and although he was only one year older, so way more likely to ever notice her, it took her one and a half years to finally gather enough courage to ask him out. It was the most embarrassing day of her life.

What? No, of course not. You're joking right?

Oliver could not have given her a worse answer. Not only did she feel the most humiliation she had ever felt, the lad broke her heart in about a million pieces and he didn't even seem fazed by it. Erin's best friend Beatrice offered to push the guy out of the Astronomy Tower for it, but Erin just wanted to forget about it as soon as possible.

And she would succeed this year, because she only had one main focus and that was quidditch. Erin had been a chaser on the Hufflepuff quidditch team for three years now, since the beginning of her third year. Quidditch meant everything to her and more importantly, it meant everything to her father. She needed to make him proud. She was going to make him proud.

Their previous quidditch captain graduated last year and that meant that Madame Hooch was selecting a new team captain at the beginning of the year. Normally, the head of house is in charge of that, but Pomona Sprout was not exactly a quidditch connoisseur, so she gave that responsibility to the flying teacher.

Erin was determined to become captain of the team this year and she could do without all distractions, even stupid Oliver Wood who rejected her as badly as it gets. Not this year.
