SALT POV

I've been running for minutes until my feet brought me to the rooftop. I hesitated at first but I opened it after a few seconds of contemplating. I'm not surprised when I found Allison sitting on the wall. I'm already expecting her to be there because it's her favorite place in the school.

"Al" I called her. We need to talk, I need to talk to her.

"Why?" I asked her gently. I'm not mad, I'm more of disappointed right now, I want to know why she accepted Henry of all people.

"Why?" She answered me with a question as well.

"You know what I'm talking about" I said as I walked closer to her. I'm so sad right now, just by thinking that she will be tied with Henry makes me depress already.

"Because I don't have a choice" she said smiling before jumping off the wall. I'm getting serious but I don't think she is.

"Everybody has a choice Allison!" I said annoyed. She can't marry Henry, I won't allow it. I frowned when she chuckled lightly. I missed her laugh so much.

"Well I'm sorry to tell you but I'm not just everybody, you know that. That choice thing that you're talking about is out of my vocabulary, I never had a choice since I was born" she said and about to walk past me but I stopped her by gently grabbing her blazer.

"Al... Please don't do this" I begged.

"I wish I could be just like everybody, I wish I also have a choice" she said after releasing a heavy sigh.

"That's absurd, you're not exempted. You have your choice believe me" I argued softly. She turned around to face me and caressed my right cheek afterwards.

"I once believed I have a choice but I'm wrong"

"Wha... What do you mean?" I asked her confused.

"There was a time when I almost made a choice, but nothing happened"

"When was that time?" I asked curiously. I felt upset when she removed her hand on my right cheek.

"When I chose to love you" she said almost whispering but it didn't escape my ears. She walked past me afterwards.

"Allison" I mumbled sadly.

I want to run after her but I know that it's not a good idea, I guess we're both tied up. I also had a choice when I found out about Cassy, a choice to listen to her explanation or not. A choice to hate or to love her despite of everything.

She and Cassandra was right, I still don't know the real her. I don't know what's going through her mind, I don't know what happened to her before, I don't know the pain that she felt when Cassy left her in an instant. The choice that I made is to judge and leave her, give her pain by entertaining her sister.

I leaned my back on the wall and looked up the Sky afterwards.

"I'm hurt as well" I said while touching my chest. I chased her though she's pushing me away. I admit that when we're together, she tried her best to make me feel loved.

People commit mistakes because they thought that it's the right thing to do. My mistake is that I judged Allison based on what I found out, while her mistake is that she kept her painful past a secret.

My tears started to fall again. I guess we're not meant to be, the mistakes that we committed are what's keeping us apart right now. The best thing that I can do for her now is to understand her decision. It's what she wants and who am I to interfere? I'm just her ex-girlfriend.

"Salt"

I immediately opened my eyes when I heard Missy. I wiped my tears and smiled at her. She walked closer to me afterwards.

"It's alright" she said before hugging me tight to comfort me but it only made me cry harder on her shoulder. I stopped and slightly moved away when I noticed that she's crying as well.

"Hey, why are you crying?" I asked while wiping her tears.

"Nothing, I guess we're both sad" she said smiling.

"Yeah Allison and you are still fighting right? What happened?" I asked her curiously.

"I'll tell you but it's not yet the right time" she said between sobbing. I nodded in understanding while caressing her back to comfort her.

"Let's just eat" I suggested before reaching for her right hand and led her to the school's cafeteria.

Food cheers her up. I'm glad that we understand each other, she's all I have now. I already hurt Allison and I don't want to hurt her as well.

♥♥

Another month had passed and I can say that Missy and Allison are still not in good terms. They act normal when in class, but I know that when they're together at home, they're not talking. Missy is continuously trying her best to reconcile with Allison but it's still not working. Missy must have done something terrible that her sister can't forgive her easily. But honestly, I can't imagine her doing such thing to her Allison.

I went to visit mom and Cassandra today but Missy didn't come with me. She said she's going to do something important and can't delay it. I got worried when I reached home and mom isn't there.

"Where's mom?" I asked Cassandra.

"Gone" is all she said. She's busy playing on her tablet.

"I know she's gone, but where?" I asked irritably.

"I don't know, she's already gone when I woke up" she explained, her attention still focused on her tablet.

I shook my head before sitting on the couch across from her. I closed my eyes afterwards to take a nap.

"When is Allison's wedding?"

"I don't know" I said simply.

"It's gonna be next month" I opened my eyes immediately.

"What? How the hell did you know that?"

"Allison and I are friends, so it's natural that I'm updated" she said grinning.

"You're lying" I said frowning. There's no way that Allison will be friends with her. "How come she's talking to you?"

She smirked at me before lifting her phone up. On the screen is Allison's text message. Telling her that the wedding will be next month, but there's no specific date yet.

"Fine, well happy wedding to her" I said after rolling my eyes. I already accepted the truth that we're not meant to be.

"Wow! You already matured!" She exclaimed.

"I don't remember being childish" I retorted. She chuckled before putting her tablet down.

"I'm surprised that you're not angry now. You know, knowing that Allison is going to marry Henry in a short period of time" She walked explained with her arms crossed.

"I decided to respect whatever decision she will make. If marrying Henry makes her happy then it's okay with me" I said after shrugging my shoulders.

She nodded in understanding but I can see on her face that she's not convinced by what I said.

"Are you sure?" She asked suspiciously.

"Yeah I'm sure, there's no use of sulking because I have Missy with me now. Also, I already forgave Allison from lying to me" I said truthfully.

"So you feel good now?" She asked. I closed my eyes to think for moment.

"I'm sad, I'm still sad because I love Allison, but I have to move on" I said after with a sad smile.

I frowned when mom finally arrived. She looks tired, and she's wearing a black dress.

Why would she wear a black dress in a Saturday morning? Did she attend a wake? I asked myself.

"I like your dress mom" Cassandra said smiling.

"Did you attend a wake? If yes, who?" I asked curiously.

"No I didn't, I just went out to buy something, window shopping I mean" she said hastily.

Window shopping in the morning? Weird. I said to myself again.

"Window shopping mom? In the morning?!" Cassandra said amused. I rolled my eyes at her because she voiced out what's on my mind.

"Yes Cassandra, window shopping in the morning, so please stop asking me questions because I'm tired" mom said irritably. She's hot in her dress and the sweat on her face is dripping.

"But the mall isn't ope—" I covered Cassandra's mouth to stop her from talking.

"Shut your mouth Cassandra! mom don't want you to be nosy so stop talking" I whispered to her. I removed my hand on her mouth when she nodded in understanding.

Mom didn't talk to us after and busied herself on preparing our lunch. It's weird because she's always talkative and lively every time I visit them. I'm still not convinced with her alibi that she went window shopping. I have a feeling that she's hiding something from us.

We started eating after an hour. Cassandra and I are talking about random things and we suddenly ended up talking about Allison and Cassy again.

"You just told me earlier that you already forgave Allison, so why are you cursing Cassy now?" she said frowning.

"Yeah that's true, but I didn't say that Cassy was included. She's the reason why Allison is hurt, why I'm hurt. She's the cause of all the pain that I'm going through" I said irritably.

"That's not right. It's true that she's the reason why Allison was hurt, but she's already dead so give her a break" she argued but I shook my head in protest.

"She deserve to die" I said bitterly. Cassandra and I are startled when mom suddenly slammed the table.

"Don't say such rude things to Cassy, Salt" she said with a serious look on her face.

What's her problem? I asked myself.

"What's wrong? She wanted to die right? She kept her secret to her girlfriend, she refused any operation ergo she wants to die" I said hastily. She stood up and pointed at me.

"You say things as if you really know what happened to her. Don't judge her just because someone told you their side of the story. No one deserved to die, she doesn't deserve to die!" She blurted out. I'm baffled by her reaction. She's really acting weird right now.

"What's your problem mom?! Why are you so affected that Cassy is dead?" I asked angrily. She fell silent for a moment and the expression on her face changed from being angry to sad.

"Yeah mom why do you care?" Cassandra asked her as well but in a polite tone.

"I...I just don't want you saying such things to people that you didn't even meet" she said before standing up. She then brought her plate to the sink and started washing it. I followed her and brought my plate as well.

"Whatever mom, she deserved what happened to her. She chose it—" I didn't finish what I'm saying because I am interrupted by a hard slap on my face. My plate immediately fell to the floor and broke into pieces.

"Mom!!" Cassandra ran to me. I'm stunned because it's the first time that she hurt me.

"I told you to shut up and don't say such things to your—- to Cassy!" She said sternly. My tears started to fall because my cheek hurts.

"Why? Why do you care? I'm your daughter and you hurt me just because I hate her. You yourself don't even know her mom so why do you care?" I asked her crying.

"I know her! She's not just someone, she's your sister! She's your twin sister and she didn't deserve to die just like what you keep on saying!" My body froze upon hearing what she said.

Cassy Montreal, Allison's dead girlfriend is my twin sister. I opened my mouth and about to say something when Cassandra interrupted.

"Sister?! Seriously mom?!" She exclaimed. Great Cassandra, it's my moment to say something. She's making our situation funny. I tapped her shoulder to shut her up.

"What are you saying mom?" I asked her in a calmer tone now.

She sighed before walking towards the living room. Cassandra and I followed her.

"Cassandra can you leave us for a moment?" Mom requested but she shook her head in objection.

"No mom, I need to know everything too. She's my half-sister, I need to know the details" She insisted while stomping on the floor like a child.

I don't know why there's something off with the way she's acting. I can't tell if she's really concerned or she just want to make me laugh.

"Cassandra! Just sit down and stop making funny reactions" I ordered.

"Mom tell us everything, please" I said patiently. Her tears immediately fell the moment she spoke.

"Frank is the only son of Bernardo Montreal. We're both in college when we became lovers. He introduced me to his father after we graduated from college, but Bernardo didn't like me because I'm poor. Frank fought for me and he was disowned in return" she paused to blow her nose.

"So your pop is rich!" Cassy again.

"Shut up" I said irritably.

"Frank died after I gave birth to both of you due to a vehicular accident. Bernardo came to the wake and wanted to get both of you but I didn't allow it"

"So how come Cassy's not with us? This is exciting!!" Cassy said ecstatically. I closed my eyes to calm myself.

"If you speak again I swear I will kick you out of this house Cassandra!" I said before slapping her right shoulder. She smiled at me and made a peace sign afterwards.

"Please continue" I said to mom.

"When Cassy and you turned one, she started to be sick and when I consulted a doctor he said that Cassy has a hole in her heart and it needs to be replaced immediately. I don't have money for her medication so I called Bernardo. We agreed that I will give Cassy to him because he can afford your sister's medication"

I can feel her sadness and regret as she talks. She didn't have a choice that time, she loves Cassy and wanted her to live desperately. I walked to her and hugged her tight afterwards.

"I want her to live. It's very hard for me that she died without me by her side. I thought she will be cured, the doctor said she will be cured" I caressed her back as my tears started to fall as well. It's the first time that I saw her cry like this.

"Missy told me that Cassy refused any operation" I said softly, hoping that somehow it will reduce her regrets of giving Cassy away to our grandfather.

"That's the thing that I want to know. Why did she refused the operation? We communicated for months before she died and she never told me about it. Your sister is a very kind person Salt. Please don't be angry at her because you're more fortunate, you're alive and healthy" she said sobbing.

It makes me sad that we will never know the answer to our question. Knowing now that she's my twin sister immediately erased the hate that I am feeling towards her. I now feel guilty because of the bad things that I said to her.

"I'm sorry mom, but why didn't you tell me about her before?" I asked her with a hurt tone.

"That's not true, the moment I saw her again I wanted her to meet you but she said she's not ready yet. She's so happy when she found out about you and Cassandra. She longed for a sister, it's her dream" she said hastily while looking at me seriously. I sighed and massaged my temple.

"This revelation is so shocking, and I'm feeling a bit awkward knowing that my ex-girlfriend is my twin sister's ex as well. Great" I said still in disbelief.

I'm not longing for a sister because I have Cassandra, but I'm sure that it will be great to have a twin sister as well. I smiled when a memory from two years ago suddenly flashed back.

"Mom where are we going?" I asked confused. She's crying while changing her clothes. She told me to wear a black shirt.

"We're going to a funeral ceremony" she said after wiping her tears.

"Funeral ceremony of whom?" I asked curiously but she didn't answer me. The person must be important to her because she's crying.

I frowned when we arrived at the cemetery, it's one of the most expensive cemeteries here in our place, I didn't know that mom had a rich friend. I frowned more when we stopped in a distance.

"Mom why are we here? We should be there" I said while pointing to the bunch of crying people.

"We're fine here" she said between crying.

We watched the ceremony from afar and I sighed in relief when the funeral staff started rolling down the casket in the pit after half an hour.

"Let's go" mom said when the funeral staff finished covering the casket.

"Bye whoever you are" I mumbled.

"So the ceremony that we attended at the cemetery two years ago was for Cassy?" Mom nodded in response.

"Tell me more about her" I said gently. I know it's too late, but I still want to know what kind of person she is.

♥♥♥

Sunday came and the weather is very cold. I'm walking slowly with my left hand inside my pocket and the other one holding a basket of flowers. I didn't sleep well last night because I kept on thinking about Cassy. I decided to pay her a visit today.

It sounds crazy but I feel nervous as I walk closer to her grave. I placed the basket on top of her grave and sat on the ground afterwards. I smiled when I saw her picture engraved on the center of the cross.

"You really looked like me" I said in amazement. The eyes, nose, and the way she smiles is so identical with mine.

"This is awkward, but I want to say sorry even if you can't hear me" I said while scratching my head.

"It's funny because we both fell in love with the same person, I'm sorry for hating and cursing you without knowing the real reason why you chose to die instead of having your heart replaced" I said as my voice started to break.

"I believe that whatever it is, there's a good reason behind it. I wish I had the chance to meet you. Mom's right because I'm more fortunate than you"

"I'm so sorry" I said as my tears started to fall. I cried in silence and I don't know how long it is but I stopped when I heard a sound of a car driving away in full speed.

"Allison" I mumbled.

"See, Allison still visits you. I guess you're not that unfortunate huh" I joked while wiping my tears, as if she can hear me.

I told her all of my favorites as if I'm filling out a slam-book. Anyone can mistake me as being crazy if they see me right now, but it's fine because I am happy.

❤️

Monday came and our final examination is getting near. Our teachers are busy reviewing us, and I need to study well In order to maintain the scholarship that I have. I'm already used to not talking to Allison, there's no point in talking anyway because we both have different partners and goals now.

I'm busy taking notes for my reviewers when Missy sat on the chair next to me. I greeted her with a warm smile before I continued what I'm doing.

"Hey" she said while poking my cheek.

"Hmmmm" I said simply.

"Let's talk" she said almost whispering. I stopped what I'm doing and faced her afterwards.

"Is it important?" I inquired curiously.

"Very" she replied simply.

"Okay" I said before fixing my notes. She told me to follow her to the greenhouse afterwards.

She picked up the hose as soon as we got there and started watering the flowers.

"What are you going to tell me?" I asked cautiously.

She looked so serious right now and it made me realize that she's more matured now, compared from the Missy that I met months ago.

"Everything" she said without looking at me.

"Everything? What do you mean?" I asked her confused.

"I've been a very very bad sister to Allison" she's still watering the plants.

"What do you mean? You're the very kind person that I've ever known so don't say that thing" I said anxiously. She smiled at me then sighed before speaking again.

"I fell in love with Cassy the first time I saw her" she started to explained.

My eyes widen in disbelief but I didn't say anything. I'm just waiting to what she's going to reveal next.

"But her eyes are for Allison only. I even tried to threaten her that I will tell Allison about her illness if she don't
