"Would you like a slice of key lime pie?" The server asked, his hand swooped low with a sweet treat laid atop the sparkling platter. With a slight shake of my head the man walked away to find someone who was interested in his dessert.

It'd been nearly twenty minutes since Emiko had dragged Keigo and I to that back room and none of us had found any sign of Cane or Moria. One second they were there the next they were gone like a cool breeze on a hot summer day. Anxiety dripped from my body as I moved through the crowd of clueless reporters and heroes, their lives easier not knowing that death lurked around the corner, stalking their every move.

My eyes scanned over the people: Most talked quietly among themselves while drinking expensive fine wines and whiskies, but several were like me, searching for the dangers hidden somewhere in the building. Emiko moved through the dance floor, elegantly moving from partner to partner as she searched for a man or woman much older than her.

Would they have left the bomb here and gone? No, Cane wasn't a reckless man so a stupid plan like that wouldn't make sense for him. There wasn't a point behind it, if the bomb had been found any earlier then both the heroes and civilians could've been evacuated. If they had actually left, then what could I do to get that bomb out of range before it blows up.

Thoughts spiraled inside my head as I racked through every possible solution, none of which seemed to be the right course. There wasn't enough time to save the lives of everyone inside the bombs range and no one had any idea where Moria or Cane was. I have to find them, quickly, so that there's time to fight and get the bomb disarmed. If I can't find him then I won't be the only one dying tonight.

"Emiko." My voice was low but it reached the girl standing beside me, her head perking up in recognition. "Send out a mass notification telling civilians to evacuate and-"

My eyes shot to the side as I heard the distinctive clatter of chains ruminating through the air. Instantly my arm wrapped around Emiko's small waist and pulled her body close to mine. With a single flap of my wings we shot into the air above the crowd as chains snaked their way around the guests. It was nearly instant, leaving little time for anyone to react.

"How perceptive of you birdie." As the party goers below us struggled in their chains, a single voice spoke louder than the rest: Sounding mellow and gentle but holding a dagger between it's words. "I thought surely my chains would trap everyone but it looks like you saved that friend of yours. Too bad you couldn't save your little boyfriend as well."

One of the many chains wiggling around the room shot up into the air, wrapped tightly in it's bound was Keigo. His red wings held tightly against his back by the metal chains. Anger wrote itself across his expression as his muscles strained to free himself from the confines. "You bitch! Let me out right now before I use these chains to strangle you."

"Not very hero like, birdman." Her smooth voice was calming yet terrifying. As of this point she had the ability to kill everyone in this room but she was so calm and collected you'd never know that. "It'd be a shame if someone heard their number two talking about murder. Ruin your public reputation."

"What's going on Moria?" I spoke to her but kept my eyes on the chains moving around below us: LIke snakes trying to get their next meal. Out of the Talon's, Moria was by far the scariest. She was short and as beautiful as the morning sun but if you looked away for even a second two long you'd be dead. A murderer with the perfect attitude for assassinations: Beauty mixed with brains and brawn into the perfect combination of a woman. "Why here. Why now."

What I had meant as a question had become a statement of utter hatred towards Phoenix. Had Malik and Esther really meant that they'd all decided to help us: If so would Moira actually follow through with it? Though I'd never be able to completely trust the two lovers, I did believe they wanted to help me instead of Cane. As much as I wanted to leave, it was likely more so for them.

"Cane had a plan birdie." One of the chains shot up from the ground, it's tip a sterling dagger made of metal I already knew to be from my wings. I grabbed a larger feather and used it to clash with the weapon doing everything I could to protect Emiko from Moria's grasp. She already had the leverage in this situation, so there was no need to give her one more thing to use against me. "When you ran off that plan went down the drain, so he improvised. Now he's got all the high ranking heroes in his clutches and he has you. Birdie, he's here to kill you."

"Tch, thought he'd at least try and torture me before killing me." The dagger tip circled in the air around us, suspended in the air by a nearly unbreakable chain. I'd hoped a hero would find a way out of them but apparently I'm not the only one who can't destroy those binding links. "So he'll kill me, the bomb will go off and kill the heroes, and then you two will have free reign to take over Japan. Without the Commission's head and Hito it'll be a free for all."

My eyes left the chains and went to Moria, her short figure leaning on the top railing of the stairs. Her medium length brown hair loosely falling from her head as she lazily looked down across the captured heroes. The chocolaty brown sunken eyes bored from a life she never wanted to live, in the sixteen years I'd been around her I'd never seen such an expression. Once she'd been alert and prepared for any action to be taken against her but now she seemed so far away in a different world: One where she had never joined up with Cane.

"Where is he?" I'd expected another one of her chains to come for us but the remaining ones, not trapping any heroes, moved back towards her. They spiraled around her dress for a second before moving wrapping around her skin, in an instant they seemed to melt onto her tanned arms and neck, painting themselves along her body like an elegantly drawn picture. If needed they could raise from her skin and once against become the deadly chains.

I'd fought with Moria many times and every single one of them I'd lost, beaten and bruised far worse than if I'd trained with Esther or even Cane. For a long time I thought she'd hated me, but now as I look at her saddened facial expressions I couldn't think that way. Finally I understood, it wasn't hatred, but remorse. She had trained me so hard for so long because I was supposed to survive. My fate was to live on in place of my mother. That was why she'd been cruel to someone who she loved. Sacrificing a part of herself for a girl she had no responsibility over.

"(Y/N) I need to put that girl in chains." Her voice was a warning, not because of something she would do, but of something Cane would do. Her sunken brown eyes told me a story that she'd never say aloud. "If you want to keep her safe I need you to trust me for now."

"And why should I do that? No one in Phoenix has ever given me a reason to trust them, you least of all." Though I argued with her request I still descended towards the ground. My heels clacked against the floor as I softly set Emiko down, her body stiff as she clung onto my arm as if I was her only protector; Which I was. There was a moment of hesitation as her mouth opened and words weighed on her tongue. "Emiko let her take you."

"What!" The short girl only grasped tighter onto my arm, her nails accidentally digging into my skin. I ignored the holes in my dress and the blood running down my arm as I turned to face her. My eyes softened as I saw the anxiety and fear dripping from her, she'd never admit these feelings but I could see it as if it were as clear as the sky. With only a nod she softened and released my arm, her claws stained with my blood as she stepped away from me. A chain softly wrapped itself around her arms and chest. "If you die, I'll never forgive you (Y/N)."

"I made a promise to two people that I'd stick around a bit longer, so don't worry about me." I looked towards Keigo, his body long since lowered to the ground as he continued to struggle. He attempted to stand up but was forced down onto his knees, every motion to get near being rejected in an instant. "When this is all over, pretty bird, you want to go and get some ice cream?"

"(Y/N) don't you fucking dare!" He shouted, tears blossoming in his eyes like roses. So beautiful yet so harming with thorns sharp enough to cut. "You said if you go out there then you'll-"

I shook my head and took a step towards him. All chatter inside the hall had fallen still as they listened to my every word, hanging to it like a child on monkey bars trying their best not to fall. The words I'd used to comfort Emiko wouldn't work on Keigo, he already knew that I didn't plan on surviving this night. "I know. I know. I know. Just keep on living, okay?"

"(Y/N)-"

"I love you." My voice cut through the room like a dagger through skin, reports taking mental notes in case they made it out of here alive: Too bad I wouldn't be able to do the same."God do I love you, Keigo Takami,"

Moria took gentle steps down the stairs, her barren feet padding against the floor softly as she walked towards me. Her height was only slightly shorter than Keigo but even without a towering height she was mortifying. The coldness of her eyes dripped in a snake like venom, but the closer she got the more it dripped to the ground in a show of concord.

"He's waiting in the garden." She looked into my (E/C) eyes with those piercing, glowering brown orbs catching my gaze. Even if I wanted to look away I just couldn't bring myself to do so. "If it comes down to it, do I help?"

"No." This was my final showdown with Cane, if I got help from a Talon this wouldn't mean much. If I die then I was supposed to: Cane is my fight and I'll be the one to take him down. I don't give a damn whether he beats me to death or captures me as a prison, I refuse to ask for help! I'll kill him. I'll end this once and for all.

"Okay. You better not regret saying that (Y/N)."

"I won't. Tonight I'm ending this war, I'm ending him."
