"Hey, Karishma right?"

Turning around, my eyes met with the guy named Gavin from the other night. He jogged over towards me. I was, once again, walking by myself whilst Jai did his own thing. This time, I was walking alongside the swimming pool that was outside the hotel.

He soon began walking beside me but we were both silent. We walked over to the vacant chairs under the huge umbrellas that hid us from the blaring sun.

"So, are you here in Goa alone?" he asked, sliding down and placing his arms behind his head, getting comfortable.

"I—no," I began awkwardly, "I'm actually on my honeymoon." I fumbled with my shawl as soon as I saw Gavin snap his head towards me from my peripheral vision.

He then sat up straight, peering at me with a sceptical look.

"Hold on, let me get this straight; you're here for your honeymoon but your husband isn't here?"

"Well, he's here," I quickly clarified, "just..not with me." I peeked a glance at Gavin from under my eyelashes, who had an eyebrow raised.

"It's kind of complicated," I trailed off and he nodded, not pushing it any further.

"Hey, Gavin, come on!"

We both turned to look behind his shoulder and saw two guys gesturing for him to go to them.

I shot him a questioning look and he flashed me a forced smile.

He shoved his hands in his black jeans, as he looked up at me from his blonde hair, flopping over his eyes.

"I'm, uh, actually leaving. That's why I came to find you."

"Leaving?" I repeated, shocked. In the short time I knew him, he made me feel more welcome than the man that was supposed to be my husband. "So soon?"

He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, I've been here for a month. I took a break from work and yeah, it's about time I head back."

"Oh."

If I was being honest with myself, I was disappointed. I had made a friend and here he was, already leaving.

Everyone in my life seems to eventually leave...

I resisted the urge to laugh sarcastically at my own remark and smiled at Gavin, genuinely.

"Well, I hope you have a safe flight home."

"And I hope you have a great time here with your non-existent husband," he said with a wink.

It didn't register in my head that he was joking until he reached out and patted my head, gently with a chuckle.

That gesture of affection ultimately caused me to let out a little timid laugh.

He then held out his hand and I stared at it, confused, but he reached out and grabbed my hand, shaking it.

Before pulling his hand out of mine, he placed a piece of paper in it before winking at me and walking away.

"Wait, excuse me!" I called out after him but he only lifted a hand up in a wave, not looking back as he walked on, his figure disappearing.

My eyes naturally trailed down towards the small piece of paper he placed in my now open palm.

You don't know me and I don't know you but you're interesting and I'd like to know more. So call me. ;) ps. as friends, of course.

My eyes were wide but they were even wider when they spotted the phone number scribbled under his name.

I covered my mouth with a hand, looking around to see if anyone had seen it.

I didn't do anything scandalous...did I?

Sighing, I folded the piece of paper before holding onto it tightly. I had no pockets in my Salwar and so that was the only thing I could do.

Turning around, I resisted the urge to gasp out of instinct.

Jai?

Squinting my eyes, my mouth dropped in shock to discover that it was indeed Jai.

He was with a fair, Caucasian girl with beautiful brown hair that she had twirled around her finger as she leaned in towards him.

He doesn't like me anyway so..let him be.

I tore my eyes off of them and turned, hastily walking away from the awkward scene.

My mind was on other matters anyway. I opened my hand and stared at the number, contemplating on whether I should call him or not.

Don't be like Jai! Even if we don't like each other, at least I should be truthful. We are married, whether I like it or not.

Rolling my bottom lip in between my teeth, I stood there like a confused duck. All of a sudden, someone's breath fanned my ear and cheek, causing me to jump five feet into the air.

Whipping around, my heart beat wildly. I came face to face with Jai, who was staring at me whilst he sipped some alcoholic drink.

"Mom called," he said, swirling his drink.

I blinked at him. "H-huh?"

He stopped and stared at me. "My mom called."

Oh. Snap out of it Karishma!

"O-oh." I was trying to settle down my racing heart. "Right, uh, what did she say?"

Gulping down the rest of his drink, he glanced behind his shoulder at the girl who stood there in her white bikini, waiting for him, a flirty smile on her face.

I was mad that he didn't have the decency to act like a loyal and faithful husband. I didn't like him either, but I knew that I would never ever cheat on him.

I tore my eyes off them for a couple of seconds, disheartened at the idea of what my life had become. When I looked up, his bored gaze was on me.

He sighed, ruffling his hair and spoke in a bitter tone, lips pressed tightly together in a thin line. "She wants to see photos of us doing stuff together, and since we haven't done anything, do you wanna go out to dinner?"

He stood there, awaiting my response with no enthusiasm at all.

I was shocked to say the least. That was the last thing I wanted; to spend time with him.

"Oh, okay?" I said, unsure.

"Alright. I'll meet you up in the room," he said flatly, before walking away.

Sighing, I trudged up towards the room because I had nothing else to do. I refused to take the phone number out and call Gavin; I was going to embrace the silence and loneliness.

I opened up the suitcase and took out a beautiful black salwar to wear; I didn't want to wear a modern dress because they showed too much and they didn't suit me at all.

Just when I finished getting ready, Jai walked in through the doors and spared a glance at me.

"Ready?"

I just nodded, not really in the mood to talk to him.

He stood there, staring at me with his arms crossed, before he ran a hand through his thick, dark chocolate hair.

"Alright then," he mumbled, sighing exasperatedly, "let's go."

"Uh, Jai?" I stopped him from walking out the door. He raised an eyebrow at me, the corner of his eyes pulled down, revealing a bored expression. "Aren't you going to get dressed?"

He scoffed and looked me up and down with scorn.

"You mean, get dressed all fancy like you?" he questioned like he didn't really want an answer. "For what?"

Seeing my dumb-founded expression, he added, "It's just dinner and a couple of photos to show back home; nothing special. This shirt is enough."

He stalked away. "Don't come in with me, just meet me at the hotel on the upper floor."

I stood there like a deer caught in headlights. There was nothing I could do but listen to him, as much as I found him rude. There really wasn't any other option.

If I stalked back to the hotel, not only would I come off as a bratty child, but it would mean that I let him get to me.

With a sigh, I looked down at the bed and my eyes caught sight of that paper.

I shook my head, squaring my shoulders. I really needed a friend, and every single one of them forgot about me after they got married. But I knew I was stronger than that.

Snatching the small piece of paper from the bed, I scrunched it up and chucked it in the small bin near the bathroom door.

Ignore Jai's comments and have fun!

Nodding in determination, I walked out and headed towards the hotel shortly after, praying to God that things were going to be fine.

But, what I didn't realize, was that it was going to be the opposite and tonight was going to turn out horribly.
