TWENTY-THREE
Callie

"So how did you meet your husbands?" I question Elodie, curious as to how she managed to marry two men.

"Well we met here, I became their submissive, and long story short we fell in love!" She beams. "Did you know I nearly died as well? Some crazy lady was after us for some time." My mouth falls open as she stares at me with a bright smile on her face.

"Oh." That is all I can muster up as I continue to stare in shock. I take a second before asking her another question. "Do people judge you for being in a polyamory relationship?"

"Sometimes but we don't care. Killian usually beats them up." Sounds a bit like Phoenix. "How did you meet your boyfriends?" She shuffled closer to me and I come to realise that she's a very affectionate person.

Loves a hug.

"I work for them," I explain to her and she smiles.

"Are you having doubts?"

Am I having doubts?

I can't stop the dread that bubbles up inside me, worried that something could happen between us and ruin the relationship we have. Then I'd have to quit my job.

"You have to be optimistic. I'm sure it will work out for you." She grabs my hand and gives it a small squeeze. I can't help but throw my arms around her and embrace her in a tight hug.

There's something about Elodie that seems so warm and comforting.

"I love hugs." She pulls back and smiles.

"Darling?" Our heads turn and my eyebrows furrow when I see a tall brunette man hovering over us.

He's quite attractive with his freckles and nose piercing.

"Callie, this is my husband, Enzo." Elodie introduces, standing up next to him.

I watch as he wraps his arm around her waist and places a soft kiss on the top of her head. Now I have a sudden want for the three men at home.

"Lovely to meet you." I stand and shake his hand.

As the night continues, Elodie ends up going home due to passing out. I was mortified as I saw her collapse from the bar into her husband's arms. From the look of his face, it was nothing new, but I couldn't help but still admire the loving look that was on his face as he carried her out of the club.

"Cal?" Poppy yells over the music and I can see her eyes brimming with tears.

"What's wrong?" I quickly sober up and hold her face in my hands. "Poppy, speak to me? What happened?"

When she doesn't say anything I look around the club that could give me any indication of the reason why Poppy is upset.

I see it straight away.

River's six-foot frame storming out the club, her high ponytail swaying with every angry step she takes.

I sigh.

"What happened?" I drag her to the toilet and grab some tissue to dab away the stream of mascara that trails down her pale cheeks.

"Is she okay?"

"Are you okay?"

"Oh my God, you're crying! What man should we kill?!"

Poppy and I giggle as all the other women in the toilets worry about her distressed state.

"I'm good." She gives them a thumbs up, and we hug them all before they leave the toilet, leaving Poppy and me the only ones in here.

"Now speak to me."

"We kissed." She whispers like River is around the corner and will hear us. "I-I told her I'm not into her b-but I am, Callie! I am but I panicked." She covers her face and begins to cry into her hands.

"Aw, Poppy." I pull her hands back and pull her into a tight hug and let her sob into the crook of my neck. "We've been drinking, everything's a bit all over the place. You can talk to her tomorrow, yeah." I pull back and look at my best friend in concern.

"I don't think she wants to speak to me, Callie." She whispers in disappointment.

"I'll talk to her." Her face brightens a little. "Let's go home."

"Please." She releases a tired sigh.

I groan as I send my hundredth email this morning. I'm hungover, and I could die for a coffee.

I would go with Phoenix, but he doesn't seem to be working.

None of the men are around today. Not only that, but I've seen a lot of security walking around lately but no one has explained to me what's going on.

I spot Luca walking past my office, so I get up from my chair and run after him.

"Luca!" He turns around with wide eyes and raises his eyebrows, making his way back over to me.

"Are you okay? What's happened?" He questions.

"Do you want to go and get coffee with me? I've got a crazy hangover and could do with one." He scratches the back of his head and I give him a pleading look. "Please."

"Fine."

I grin and grab my things, and we make our way to the coffee shop that phoenix and I always go to. I release a satisfied sigh as the smell of coffee fills my senses as soon as we step into the warm building.

I order myself a drink and I giggle when Luca orders a hot chocolate, a blush etching onto his face. As I stare at him, I can't help but think again about how much he looks like Everest.

"Are you and Everest long-lost brothers?" Luca chokes on his drink and stares at me with his wide amber coloured eyes.

"What?!" He says a little too loud as people around us turn to look at us with furrowed eyebrows. "No." He whisper yells, and I stare at him in amusement.

"I know. Just wondering." I shrug and take a sip of the steaming hot coffee.

Conversing with Luca has made me notice how funny and relaxed he is. As I already know about the other half of the business he told me how he's a hacker, but he also does other things which he didn't go into much detail in — considering we're in public.

Now I'm back at work and as I make my way into my office I jump in fright when I see an angry-looking Phoenix sitting at my desk.

"Nix? You okay?" I put my coat on the hook and slowly make my way over to him.

"Why would you take him for coffee and not me?!" He exclaims and my eyes widen. "That's our thing!" Jealousy is laced into his tone and to say he looks angry would be an understatement.

"You weren't here." I defend myself and frown. "Phoenix, there's no need to be jealous."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"Okay, can you blame me?" He tilts his head and I try to hold back my smile. "That's our thing." He whispers.

"So you've said." I nod and go over to him and take a seat on his lap.

He wraps his arms around my torso and buries his face in my breasts causing me to roll my eyes.

"You know what I've realised with you all?" I say.

"What?"

"You're all just babies in disguise." I run my fingers through his soft hair and hear him release a sigh.

"There's something we need to talk to you about, princess. It's not good."

My mood falls.
