"Cal, you're really late." My best friend, Poppy frowns as I step out of the lift with four coffees.

She sits behind the reception desk and looks at me with wide eyes.

"Mr Young is also disappointed that you missed having coffee with him." I mentally roll my eyes.

Phoenix is obsessed with these coffee dates β€”as he likes to call them. Considering the man never likes to speak, I'm surprised he likes to go out and get coffee.

"Are they already in the meeting?" Poppy nods her head and I bite my lip.

I've been working for this company for three years and not once had I been late.

Until today.

"You know what, I'm going to go and hide in my office. If they ask, please tell them I've called in sick." I place the coffees down on her desk and Poppy looks at me with raised eyebrows. "What?"

"You and I both know the minute they come out of that meeting they're going to be on the hunt for you." She laughs lightly and I sigh because she is completely correct.

"When does the meeting finish?" I tilt my head and watch as she checks the time.

"In about five minutes." However, I freeze at the sound of a door opening and multiple footsteps and chatter. "Or now." She gives me a sheepish smile.

That's when I take the moment to run to my office. My heels echo against the black marble floor as I run down the corridor.

I run past the massive office with the initials, M.L, E.W and P.Y etched on to the double black doors. I open the door to my own office which is massive.

I asked for a smaller one but my three bosses declined, telling me that I don't deserve to be working in a small cramped environment.

I shut the door behind me and take a deep breath. It's only a matter of minutes before they end up barging into my office β€” so I turn the lock.

I take a seat behind my desk and rub my temples in frustration.

Not only am I late today but I have very much gone against the uniform policy.

I couldn't find a clean blouse that fit me, so now I'm wearing one that is about two sizes too small. I've had to unbutton the first couple buttons so the whole shirt doesn't burst.

That would be humiliating.

A hard knock makes me jump and I freeze looking at the door with wide eyes.

"Open the door, sunshine." Everest's voice sounds on the other side and I gulp. "Open the door or you're fired." I roll my eyes at the man's empty threat.

I slowly stand up and make my way to the door. I take my time when turning the lock but as soon as they here the clicking sound the door is thrown open.

Miller and Everest walk in with furrowed eyebrows.

"Where have you been, love?" Miller questions, looking at me in concern and then his eyes avert to my cleavage poking out of my shirt.

"Fucking hell, Callie. You do realise that you've gone against the uniform guideline." Everest's eyes widen as he also stares at my chest.

I begin to feel self conscious, so I grab my cardigan and put it on, wrapping the front part tightly around me.

"I was in a rush and I couldn't find anything." I huff.

Miller slowly nods his head and then gives me his breathtaking smile. He runs his fingers through his wavy brown hair before adjusting his suit jacket.

I look over at Everest to see him in his usual all black suit with a black turtle neck. My eyes fall to his expensive gold jewellery that he always wears β€” from the watch around his wrist to the chain around his neck.

"You missed our meeting, love. We were getting quite worried when you never showed up, you've never been late before." Miller questions, his voice filled with concern.

"I overslept. Busy weekend." I keep the story short. "Where is Phoenix?" I frown when I don't see the last one of the trio.

"You've upset him." I raise my eyebrows so that Everest can elaborate. "Monday, Callie. He likes to go for coffee with you on Mondays. You know what the fucker is like when shit like this happens." I bite my lip when I finally understand.

I'm really surprised that Phoenix likes to do this when we just sit there in silence and people watch.

"Well it's not that big of a deal. We'll just go next week." I shrug, not seeing a problem with missing one day.

"What about dinner? Are you coming to ours for dinner this evening?" Everest questions, a hopeful glint in his deep blue eyes.

"Why do you always do this to me? I'm your assistant, not your friend." I sigh.

"Ouch, sunshine." Everest holds his chest and I roll my eyes.

"Follow me, Callie." Miller orders with a stern look and walks out of my office.

My eyes widen and I look at Everest who shrugs.

Idiot.

I speed walk and try to catch up with Miller's long strides as he walks to his office.

I can feel Everest close behind me and my breath hitches. I walk into the men's office and look around at the dark interior.

Everything with these men is dark.

The closing of the door grabs my attention and I turn my head to see Everest blocking my exit.

"I've got work to be doing." I say in a bored tone.

"No, sweetheart. You're going to sit here and explain to us what you were doing this weekend and why you came in late." Miller takes a seat on his chair, his legs spread a little.

"It's none of your business where I went this weekend, Miller." I throw my arms up in the air, suddenly confused as to why he's so bothered about what I got up to on my weekend. "Let me get on with my work." I huff, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Sunshine." Everest steps in front of me and tilts my head up with his finger. "We worry about you β€” that's all. We want to make sure you're safe." He whispers and my breathing begins to increase at the close proximity between us.

I step back and look at the two men with wide eyes.

What in the actual fuck is happening?!

"I went out drinking, now I'm going." I tell them and then rush out of the office.

It's freezing cold. It's pouring with rain and I'm waiting for a bus to come because I was too tired and hungover to drive into work.

The roads of London are busy as people drive home from work. I look up at the bus timetable and groan when the bus I need won't be here for another seventeen minutes.

Soon a sleek black car pulls up in to the bus stop. A car that I recognise a little too much.

The window to the passenger side rolls down and I crouch down to look at the driver.

"Phoenix."

"Get in."
