NINETEEN
Callie

"Why did I just see someone running across the roof?" I break the silence and turn to face Phoenix and Miller who look at me with furrowed eyebrows.

Phoenix turns the computer off and moves me from the window and pulls the nets back to look himself.

"Fuck sake!" He grits his teeth and storms out of the room.

My eyes widen, and I look at Miller who shrugs his shoulders.

"Are you not at all concerned at the fact that there is someone on our roof?" I question Miller and he shakes his head.

"I know exactly who is on that roof." I furrow my eyebrows.

"Who?"

"You'll find out soon. Anyway, when can you give me another tattoo?" I shake my head at his question.

He's already addicted.

"That's the only one you're getting, Miller." I point my finger and he pouts lightly. "Stop looking at me like that." I huff and sit down in Phoenix's chair.

Miller makes his way over to me and I look up at him. He smiles gently and reaches forward to stroke my cheek, I can't help but lean into his touch as I feel the sparks travel through my skin.

"You're my good girl. Mmm?" He tilts his head and grabs hold of my face with one hand, squeezing my cheeks.

"Yes," I whisper, and he leans down and places a hard kiss on my lips.

"We've got an event this evening. Casino." He simply says and I frown.

"This isn't legit, is it?" He shakes his head gently.

"No, it's not." He admits and I slowly nod my head.

"Are people going to get hurt?" I continue to question Miller as he rubs his thumb along my bottom lip.

"If you're worried about you getting hurt, I can promise you that won't happen." I raise my eyebrows. "I mean it, Callie." I stand up from the chair and bite my bottom lip.

"I trust you all." The biggest smile etches onto his face, and he goes to say something, but we're interrupted by the door being thrown open.

"Let me go, Phoenix!" I stumble a little in shock as I watch Phoenix drag in a teenage boy by the ear.

"Phoenix, let him go!" I cover my mouth in shock as he throws the boy to the floor.

"I'm gonna tell my brother about this shit, Phoenix! This is bullshit." My mouth falls open at the profanities coming out of the young boy's mouth.

"Well, your brother ain't fucking here! How many times have we got to tell you to stay away?!" Phoenix yells at him and I feel Miller press his front against my back as we watch the two argue.

"I want to be a part of the business! I'm shit at school." Then realisation hits me when I see that he's dressed all in black.

He was the one on the roof?

"Who is this?" I interrupt the conversation of the two and they both turn to look at me.

The young boy looks at me and smirks.

"Hello, my lady." He bows, and I can't help but watch the boy in amusement.

"Shut the fuck up!" Phoenix hits him around the head. The boy winces and rubs the spot that Phoenix aggressively hit.

"I'm West, Ellis West." He winks, and I laugh at his James Bond impression, but my smile soon falls.

West.

That's Everest's surname.

"I am the better-looking brother, by the way." He tells me.

Now I can see the similarities, from the dark brown wavy hair to the piercing blue eyes. He looks a lot like Everest and River.

"How come Everest never told me he had a little brother?" I look up at Miller, but Ellis decides to answer for me.

"One, I am not little -" He's shorter than me, definitely about five-seven. "And two, he must be jealous of my better looks that's why he's kept me secret."

"Lovely." I force a smile and look at Phoenix who glares at the boy.

"You need to go back home, Ellis. Finish school, this is not a job you want to get stuck in." Phoenix says in a serious tone and Ellis huffs in frustration.

"Phoenix, ple—"

"No."

"He's right, little man. Your brother has tried so hard to keep you away from all this, don't piss him off by going against him." Miller reasons.

"Well, I would go home, but I don't have one." I think my heart almost breaks in two at the boy's words.

"What do you mean you haven't got a home?" Phoenix frowns.

"Mum has run off with one of her boyfriends and she sold the house." I sigh, slowly closing my eyes.

That woman is good for nothing. I remember Everest telling me how he had to raise his sister and himself alone. I'm guessing he had to raise Ellis too.

"Wait, Ellis?" Miller says in a warning tone. "Everest left here to check on you, so why the fuck are you here, and he's not?" As if this couldn't get worse, it does.

"I drugged him. It was the only way I could leave. Don't worry, it's not harmful, it will wear off in —" he looks down at his watch. "— about five minutes."

I cover my mouth in shock.

"You're a little shit, do you fucking know that?" Phoenix grabs hold of his collar, shaking him slightly. "He might have trained you to be some little assassin, Ellis, but he did that so you were able to protect yourself. Don't fucking forget that."

"We need to get ready, or we're gonna be late," Miller speaks out and Phoenix lets go of the boy and nods his head.

"Can I tag along with you all? Especially the pretty lady over there." He winks and I shake my head in disbelief.

"Of course you can." Phoenix smiles and the boy's eyes brighten.

"Really?!"

"No."

I hold back my laugh.

My phone begins to ring, and I look at the caller ID to see it is Everest, so I answer straight away.

"Are you okay?"

"Tell that boy I'm gonna kill him."

Then he hangs up.

A couple of seconds later I get a message.

I miss you, my sunshine :)

I can feel a long night ahead coming.
