FORTY-ONE
Callie

"You wanna tell me why you've been throwing up the past few days?" Miller questions in front of me, shrugging a bulletproof vest on.

It's only us two in the room and the tension between us is on a high. What do I even say? And how the hell did he know I was throwing up?! All I can do is sit with my hands on my lap and fiddle with my fingers as I listen to Miller huff to himself.

"Look at me." I take my time but eventually lock eyes on him. His muscles flex under his shirt and I watch as he walks over to me, the stern look still etched on his face. "Answer my fucking question, Callie." I raise my eyebrows at his tone.

"Why are you so pissed off?" I stand up from my chair and look up at him with a small frown.

"Pissed off? I'm fucking fuming. Your health is important to us, Callie, so why do you feel the need to keep the fact you're throwing up a secret?" He rasps and I shrug my shoulders, igniting the already angry burning flame. "Don't piss me off further. How long have you been throwing up?"

"A day." I lie.

Miller flares his nostrils and turns away from me. Okay, maybe that wasn't a good idea.

"Don't insult me. How. Long?" He questions in a low voice and I swallow hard.

"About three weeks," I mumble and his head turns so fast to face me I'm surprised he didn't get whiplash.

"Three weeks, you've been throwing up for three weeks and you didn't think to tell us?!" He exclaims, throwing his hands up in the air and I sigh gently, running my hands down my face.

"There's been a lot going on." Miller continues to stare at me in disbelief. I have to sit back down, my head starting to throb.

"Nothing is more important than your health! What is going on with you Callie?!" He shouts and the door swings open, Everest and Phoenix walking in with concern painted all across their beautiful faces.

Great.

All I need are two more men to scold me.

"The fuck is going on in here?" Nix questions and makes his way over to me. He steps in front of Miller and crouches down in front of me. He caresses my cheek so gently with his tatted hands. "What's wrong?" He tilts his head and I look over his shoulder at Miller then back to his sea-green eyes.

"I'm just a little sick. That's all." Another mistake.

"Don't be stupid, Callie. I know you're not fucking stupid!" Miller continues to yell and I look to Nix who has his jaw clenched tightly—his hands rubbing up and down my thighs in a comforting manner.

"So what are you saying then?" Nix asks him, keeping his eyes on me. I nibble nervously on my bottom lip.

"She's pregnant!"

"I am right here, you know!" I shout at Miller and he furrows his eyebrows and looks at me like I've said the most terrible thing ever.

"You're pregnant?" Everest grins and I huff.

"I haven't done a test. I'm probably just stressed with everything that's been going on recently." I try and reason but Miller chuckles with no amusement on his face whatsoever.

"Why are you being ignorant as fuck?" What type of Miller is this because it's far from the gentleman I know.

"Why are you being such a cunt?!" I blurt out and quickly cover my hand over my mouth.

"I'm being a cunt? For worrying that my girl could be carrying our baby?!" He throws his arms up in the air and my breath hitches.

Now that he's said it, it's as if realisation finally dawns upon me. It doesn't matter who's it is, but there's a huge possibility that I could be carrying a baby.

"Why don't we all fucking relax?" Phoenix stands back up and stands in front of me, blocking my view of an angry Miller. "We don't know for sure if Callie is pregnant, let's not jump to conclusions —"

"I'm not jumping to conclusions, Phoenix, it's fucking obvious." He points at me and I scoff.

"Miller, just stop!" I groan in frustration.

"We haven't got time for this. As soon as we're back, we're on the next fucking plane home!" Miller picks up his gun, shoving it into the back of his trousers before storming out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

"I have never seen that man so mad," Everest whispers, releasing a small breath. "It's okay, sunshine."

"It's not okay, Ev. We've all been through so much, most times I find myself putting all of you before me and I don't regret doing that! There was no need for Miller to get so mad at me. We couldn't have just spoken like decent adults?" I place my hands on my hips and look up at the ceiling, breathing in deeply.

"Do you think you could be pregnant, princess?" Nix asks, placing his hands on my cheeks.

"Possibly. I know, shit timing, but there have been times where we've had unprotected sex. Most fucking times." I drop my face in my hands and feel the stinging in the back of my eyes. Then the tears begin to fall and I'm suddenly a sobbing mess.

"Shit, baby, it's okay." Nix wraps me up in his arms and continues to hold me until my cries have quietened down. "You know what Mill is like. Crazy overprotective, we all are. We love you so much." I pull away and sniffle.

"Please be safe. Don't get killed." I plead with them, wiping my eyes. "Make sure Miller doesn't do anything stupid, please." I panic and Nix shushes me, kissing the top of my head.

"We'll be okay."

Everest

"Hey, could you slow the fuck down before you get us killed?!" River exclaims next to me from the backseat.

Miller is driving like a fucking maniac. He hasn't calmed down from his argument with Callie, if anything, he's ten times worse. Then all of a sudden he's pulling up on the curb, tyres skidding and climbs out of the car. He rips open the door. River looks at him in confusion, I shake my head in disappointment, and Nix curses under his breath.

"You drive the fucking car." He grits his teeth and my sister looks at me with questioning eyes. I shrug my shoulders and watch her step out of the car and climb into the driver's side. As soon as she's adjusted her seat, we drive on.

"Miller, you need to get a fucking grip." Nix turns his head to look at our friend who looks as if he's about ready to kill the lot of us. "Callie doesn't need this stress. So what she hadn't said anything, she hasn't even done a pregnancy test, Miller. So she wasn't keeping anything from us."

"Apart from the fact she was throwing up." Miller retorts and I roll my eyes.

"Shut the fuck up." Phoenix groans, running his hands through his hair.

After fifteen minutes we pull up beside the rest of the team in the underground car park. I don't hesitate to jump out of the car as soon as it comes to a standstill.

"Seems a little tense. Did Callie not suck you off?" My eyes slowly close as Mason opens his fucking mouth, aimed towards his brother. I don't even have to look as I hear Miller's fist connecting with Mason's cheek. "What the fuck?!" Now the other brother is angry. Great.

"All of you shut the fuck up or I'll blow your kneecaps." We all go silent at the sound of Annie's voice. "Now listen and listen very carefully. You wanna make it out of here alive, you need to stop acting like idiots. We're in then we're out. This shouldn't be any longer than an hour. Those people aren't coming out here alive."

Annie's eyes fall on me and she gives me a sympathetic smile. My so-called mother is going to die tonight, then my sibling and I will be orphans. Well, we've always been orphans but still.

"This place has been wired. As soon as you step foot through that door you have an hour and a half to get in and out. Then we all need to get out of this country as soon as possible." We all nod our heads at Annie. There's no time to fuck around now.

Stealthily, we move into the building, guns in our hands aimed out in front of us. We make our way down to the basement and I hold my hand up, causing everyone to freeze behind me.

"Where is the fucking safe?! She said it was here!" The sound of my mother's voice has my jaw clenching so tight, that if I clench any tighter my teeth will shatter.

"Don't fucking move!" I shout and John, Penelope, and Chloe all slowly turn with their hands raised in the air. We have them surrounded, there's nowhere for them to go.

"Son." I grimace at her.

"I'm not your son. You don't have children because you never deserved them." I slowly step forward until my gun is being buried into her chest. "I've suffered all my fucking life because of you, I raised my siblings and made sure they had everything they needed in life. But who did I have? No-one. Because you chose drugs and men over us."

Her eyes begin to water.

"I promise you'll never have to see me again, just tell me where the safe is." I chuckle in disbelief and turn to look at my family with an amused face.

Miller and Phoenix step up either side of me and stare down at the poor excuse of a woman.

"I didn't deserve what you did to me, all I wanted was to be loved and you took that away from me and made me grow up way too fast. Then you try and take that love away from me again and try to kill my Callie?" I push the gun further, causing her to whimper in pain. "That's where I cross the line."

"Everest." Her arms try to worm their way around me so I pull the trigger. She staggers back with wide eyes and looks down at her chest which is pouring with blood. She looks at me like I've betrayed her and I smile. How the tables have turned.

"See you in hell." I grin and tears start to stream down her cheeks for a few more minutes before whatever light was left drains from her eyes.

"I-I didn't, she forced me to do this!" Penelope cries out, making a run for the exit.

River pulls her gun out and shoots her square in the head.

"Fucking bitch."

Then there's John.

John, who has a detonator in his hands.

"How the fuck?" Miller mutters under his breath.

The fucker is trembling, tears and snot all over his ugly fucking face, his thumb hovering over the button that could blow us up at any second.

"I loved her." He points at my dead mother and I roll my eyes.

"No you didn't, John. You were here latest fuck toy, get with it, big man." I click my fingers and he clenches his eyes shut. "You wanna kill us all?"

"Ev." Nix hisses, his face telling me not to piss the man off more than he already is.

"I'll do it."

John is too distracted to see Mason creep up behind him. Mason gets him in a chokehold and tries his best to remove the detonator from his hand.

"Get out of here!" Mason yells, his eyes are frantic.

Fuck.

"Mason, what the fuck are you playing at?!" Miller exclaims in anger.

"Does it look like I'm playing, brother? For once, let me be the favourite child and help!" Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Miller's eyes water and he shakes his head.

"You're a fucking idiot!" He points his gun at his brother and looks torn between grabbing him and risking us all dying or leaving him and saving the rest of us.

"Miller. Get the fuck out and makeup with your girl. Life's too short." My chest deflates.

Mason was an idiot.

A decent idiot.

"We need to go." Annie pulls a distraught Miller away and I give Mason a small nod as he struggles with John and the detonator.

"See you all in hell!" Mason laughs as we leave.

Even when he's about to die, he's cracking jokes.

The minute we're all piled into cars and driving off, the building ignites. Debris and paper raining over us and the road behind us. Passers by look on in shock. I close my eyes and rest my head back against the chair.

It's over but at what cost?
