A blaring alarm rang through two rooms early Monday morning.

It was 6:30, time for the twins to wake up and start their day.

Jada woke up first, yawning quietly as she stretched. She rubbed her eyes as she looked at the empty side of her bed.

The small Freeman was slowly getting used to not waking up with her boyfriend next to her. She didn't like that fact that he was still gone, off to college, and she was here, still in high school. But she knew, she'd see him soon enough.

Jada went to the bathroom, getting ready to shower.

Riley then woke up, groaning that he had to go to school. He honestly hated school now that his girl wasn't there. It was like school wasn't worth going to anymore now that she's gone.

Riley, however, did like having more time with his twin sister. Being in a relationship was time consuming and he never had time to spend with Jada as much anymore.

Anyways, Riley got up, rubbing his eyes, as he walked to the bathroom. It was normal for him to talk into the bathroom the same time Jada was in there. Since it was only the Freemans in the house, they tried to make less messes due to their lack of help.

"Morning Reezy," Jada greets.

"Sup."

Jada finishes showering, and as if on cue, Riley hands her her towel as he brushes his teeth.

Jada wraps the towel around her as she opens the curtains. Riley continues brushing his teeth as Jada exits, going to get dressed. He puts on a white and burgundy hooded t-shirt with faded ripped gray jeans and burgundy and white timberland sneakers. He also wore a black Gucci watch.

After Riley finished, he goes to his room to get dressed and goes downstairs and waits for Jada in the living room.

He sits in front of the couch as Jada comes down, sitting behind him.

She wore a green sweater that was puffy at the neck, black jeans, black boots, black earrings, a crown ring, and silver bangles.

She had beezwax and a rat tail comb in her hands. She takes his braids out, re-doing his hair.

"Did you wake up Huey?" Riley asks.

"Yea, he should be down in a second."

A couple minutes later, Huey comes downstairs, going to the kitchen.

Jada finishes Riley's hair, taking the supplies back to the bathroom and washing her hands.

The twins go into the kitchen where Huey was making them breakfast like he did every morning.

"You have to walk home today," Huey says as he places an omelet in front of the two. "I'm too tired today."

The twins nod, too tired to argue. After eating, the two grab their book bags and say goodbye to Huey as they walk.

School was only a couple blocks away so walking only took 20 minutes.

"You study for Mr. Brewer test?" Riley asks.

"No. ELA isn't really a class you need to study. Plus he said it was open note."

Riley nods, looking straight ahead.

"Freemans!" A voice calls. The twins groan, turning around.

"London," They say with fake enthusiasm. The skinny Freshman runs up to them, a smile on his face.

"I feel like I haven't seen you two in forever!"

"You saw us Friday, London," Jada reminds him, "You followed- I mean, walked us to school like you do everyday."

"Wish he didn't," Riley mumbled.

London Alexander lived across the street from the Freemans and would always pester the two. With him being younger than them both, he was very immature and he would always act as though the twins were gods to him.

Another person appeared, the fourth person that joined them on their journey to school,

"Hi Taiya!" Jada greets, happy to see the small girl.

"Hi Jada. Hi Riley!"

Taiya Scorpio was more of Riley's friend than Jada's. She was a quiet girl that loved to draw and that was often what she did with Riley whenever she was with the Freemans. She believed in black rights and often talked politics with Huey and Jada. Taiya was well liked by all the Freemans.

"How was your weekend?" Jada asks.

"Calming. I sketched and listened to Lauren Hill all weekend."

"You ain't call me over to sketch," Riley said.

"I'm sorry, Reezy," Taiya giggled, "I just wanted a bit of alone time."

Riley chuckles, telling her it was okay.

The four finally get to school, Jada walking to chemistry alone while Riley and Taiya went to art.

"Yea, I'll see you all later!" London says, as he's left alone.

Jada get's to chemistry where she's greeted by Simone. She smiles at her, sitting in the seat next to her.

"Long time no see, Freeman," Simone greets. "You ain't text me all week."

"Caesar came to visit this weekend," Jada replies. "Sorry."

"How is your little Jamaican?"

"Good. He says he has a break soon with Christmas coming up."

"Ohhh! Ya'll bout to get freaky!"

Jada slaps the girl's arm.

"You're gross!"

With Riley~

Riley and Taiya sat next to each other in art as people started to pour in, waiting for class to start.

"What're you drawing?" Taiya asks.

"Cindy."

Taiya nods, a bit disappointed. She had had a crush on Riley, even though she knew he had a girlfriend.

"Have you seen her lately?"

"No," Riley asked. "But she should be here by Christmas."

"That nice."

Riley glanced over at Taiya.

"What's wrong, T? You been a bit more quiet than normal."

"I'm fine," Taiya puts on a smile. "Just, ya know, tired I guess."

Riley looks at the dark skinned girl next to him and shrugs.

As the day went on, it was last period, the only class Jada and Riley shared together. ELA with Mr. Brewer.

Scott Brewer was the only white teacher at Lincoln Park High School in Chicago. He was a slim man, 24, and a lot of girls thought he was the hottest teacher ever.

"Mr. Brewer, can you help me?" A girl asks, flirtatiously. Jada rolled her eyes,

"Slut," She mumbled. The girl whipped her head to look at Jada who stared right back.

"Class started 10 minutes ago and you already starting something," Riley chuckled, leaning back in his chair.

"You got something to say, Freeman?"

"I said you were a slut," Jada repeats. "Better?"

"You just mad because nobody wants you!"

"Nobody wants me but your nigga," Jada points to the girl's friend, "Your nigga and her nigga all was in my phone only 2 days ago."

"Bitch, ain't nobody trynna get with you!"

Jada shrugs.

"Ladies, please," Mr. Brewer tries.

"She always got sum to say," the girl huffs.

"And I will continue to talk," Jada replies.

"Ugh! Riley get yo punk ass sister," the girl's friend said.

"Hoe don't talk to me like we friends!" Riley barked, "And don't talk bout my sister like dat either."

"Well you needa handle her before she get's handled."

"Pause!" Jada and Riley put their hands up.

"I don't swing that way," Jada says. Everyone laughs.

The girl got mad and jumped at Jada, who dodged and pulled the girl by her wrist, swinging her into the white board.

"Here we go," Brewer groans.

The girl's friend tries to help but Riley grabbed her by her shirt pulling her back.

"Nah, hoe!"

Jada continues to beat the other girl while security came in, hauling her away. Riley get's up, as if on cue, and grabs Jada's book bag, following the security guard.

"I'll grab our work after school," He tells his teacher who only nods, shooing him away.

"I was starting to think you weren't gonna fight today, Ms. Freeman," Principal Hogan said.

"Well, I like to speak my mind and most of these girls don't like that," Jada says with a shrug.

"Should I call your brother today or do you got it?"

"I already text him," Riley says.

"Thank you Mr. Freeman. You already know the drill, Jada."

"See ya next week, Mrs. Hogan!" Jada smiles as she leaves. She was used to getting suspended for fights but it never really bothered her since she still got her work done.

As Jada and Riley wait for Huey, Riley put his arm around his sister's shoulder, smiling.

"Today was pretty good," He says. "Sucks you won't be at school tomorrow but you know her nigga is gonna start something with me anyways, so I'll join you."

Jada giggles, putting her arm around her brother's waist.

"You're right. Hopefully Huey doesn't care."

"That nigga should be used to this by now," Riley says. "He knows we find every excuse to get outta school."

"To be fucking honest."

The twins laugh. Jada looks up at her brother and a soft smile is planted on her face.

"I'm glad we get more time to spend together," She says.

"Me too, sis."
