"Take a left!" Hye instructs and, at the turn, we all follow her instruction.

"Shit...there are a couple of guys coming in from the right end of the hall." Namjoon rushes, "turn as soon as you can if you wanna avoid them."

Before we reach the end of the hall, we all take a turn in the divet of the wall beside us. My vision is completely lost as we cautiously navigate through the new dark passage.

"Anything you can tell us?" Jimin asks our guides.

We wait a few seconds. There's no response.

"Namjoon...Hye...confirm that you can hear us." I whisper in a panic.

"Stop walking." One of the cops say and we do so. "New plan. We'll turn back and deal with the members, and when the coast is clear, you guys come back into the main hallway. Jun Seo, Jihu, you're with me. Jimin, Kyung Mi, stay here and wait for further instructions." They run back into the main hallway, leaving us in the dark.

A shrill giggle suddenly echoes through the hair, making the hairs on my neck rise. I shiver before Jimin's hand catches mine.

A cold breeze creeps around in a rushed motion, as if its excited to make us even more uncomfortable. I can almost feel the presence of dangerous figures dancing around us, getting close but not touching. Just looming.

It feels like hours that the shadows are threateningly close before they seem to disappear as a light switches open, blinding us for a moment before we regain focus.

Ahead of us is a single man, smiling wickedly. He looks at me and turns his head slightly, as if studying me. He then chuckles before walking towards us.

"Ahh, so you're all grown up now, aren't you Kyung Mi?" He asks, and I look back at him, confused. Do I know him?

Jimin takes a step ahead of me and takes his palm out of mine before forming it into a fist in front of him, ready to pounce and punch if necessary.

The mysterious man laughs, the same shrillness as his original dreadful shriek of joy. "I suppose you wouldn't recognize me. After all, the last time I saw you was when you were a baby. Can't believe my target is an adult now."

"J-Jung Hyukjae you don't scare me." I say hoarsely, causing him to smirk.

"Of course. That's why you needed a bodyguard, right?" He moves his arms behind him and stretches casually, taunting us even more. "It's okay. I understand the frustration you feel of all those years of self-defense classes going to waste. If it's any consolation, I think you've gotten much better."

He's trying to freak me out by how much he knows about me, and it's working. Have the Sparked Mafia really had eyes on me my whole life?

I blink away tears from my eyes as he inches even closer. Ugh, why aren't the cops back yet?

"Well, before we hold you both captive are there any...questions you have for me? You know, things you guys haven't been able to find out about the Sparked Mafia?"

We need to stall him until the cops get here. Just play into his assumptions until its time.

I swallow my fears and look at him dead in the eye. "Why? Why did you target me?"

A look of pride washes over his face as he pauses to collect his thoughts. "You were the perfect candidate in many ways than one." He clears his throat and fails to hide the disgust on his face. "For one, Jung Daeshim getting my best friend to turn against me that day on the swings." Hyukjae starts tearing up as he remembers how Hye's father caused Appa, his only friend, to turn against him. Hyukjae is still angry about that elementary fued?

"That was the first time Daeshim proved to be an ass." He suddenly starts fiddling with his ring finger, as if touching an invisible band. "Then he stole the love of my life, my fiancée."

What the hell?  Hyukjae inhales a sigh. "The woman he is now married to. Kim Minsu, she was...she was..." He trails off and I think in horror of the witch that is Hye's stepmother. She was Hyukjae's former lover? Ugh, they'd make a perfect wicked couple. "She was amazing, but she was attracted to Daeshim's money. Ended up leaving me for it. She'd be regretting breaking up with me now, huh?" He spreads his arms out wide and looks around his empire.

"Lemme get this straight. You started the Sparked Mafia to prove to your ex that you could be successful?" Jimin asks.

"In part." Hyukjae says boredly, trying to play off his pride. "Anyway, Kyung Mi was perfect. I mean, after all, Hye was Daeshim's daughter, so it was too obvious, and I didn't want to hurt Minsu in any way. Kyung Mi, however." He looks back at me and I shiver. "Well, she was Hye's best friend and therefore connected to Daeshim. With Kyung Mi I could hurt him and Lee Beom Soo at the same time, just like they hurt me when I was just a kid."

Feeling lightheaded, I allow my knees to break my fall to the floor. Shooting pains erupt from them as they make contact with the concrete, but I ignore them. For the first time, everything about me being a target of a criminal organization has become real. It wasn't that Appa was rich and famous. It was so much deeper, and Appa and I took the brunt of that depth.

I can't believe Appa is now mentally ill.
