Quick warning: this story is based on a horror film, so there's a lot of blood, gore, and torture of that nature. This is where we start getting into all of that, so be cautious.

Apparently you had nodded off sometime last night because you woke up to Blake's voice shouting something about the time and how you were all going to be late.

You crawled out of your tent and began to take all your stuff out so you could put it in the trunk. Blake was throwing things at Nick and Daltons tent while screaming at them, so that's always a joy.

Once all your stuff was out you collapsed and separated the tent and shoved it all into Blake's truck.

"You guys see my camera anywhere?" Dalton asked, walking around the area where all of you were loading your stuff. You, having not seen it anywhere, shrugged in response.

"Like i give a shit about your camera," Nick muttered.

You noticed that Carly and Paige were standing off with the trees talking so you decided to walk over and join them for a bit. As soon as you reached them that putrid smell from last night hit your nose.

"Oh, my god. There's that smell again," Paige gagged while holding her hand up to her nose. Carly was doing the same thing. You embraced the smell. Let it run all up in your nose and touch ever last corner. (I'm sorry.)

"I think it's coming from over there," Carly pointed towards the deeper part of the wooded area, sounding like she was trying not to gag.

"Yeah, let's go follow the smell," Paige said, rolling her eyes as she followed Carly nonetheless.

"Maybe we're about to see what happened to Charlie's abandoned chocolate factory," you joked with a shrug. Carly actually laughed a bit, so you felt that joke was truly a win.

"Maybe- besides, I want to see what it is," Carly shrugged as she went further and further into the lot of trees.

"Why?" Paige asked, holding back behind the two of you.

"Come on!" Carly didn't bother to explain, but Paige still decided to continue trailing along with the two of you.

"I can not believe you're making me do this... only you," Paige huffed, her nose curled up from the putrid smell that  haunted the area.

"I'm going to throw up..." she added, putting her hand back up to her nose. It was getting worse, even you were trying to block out that disgusting smell of decay.

Carly turned around for a second and ended up falling down a slope hidden by the underbrush. You heard her scream ring out as she went down.

You and Paige immediately started shouting Carly's name as you creeped through the underbrush so that you wouldn't fall along with her.

   "[Name]! Paige!"

"Are you okay???" You shouted down to her. She was stuck hands first in a pile of dead, decaying roadkill. While she was probably okay physically, there was no way in hell she was going to be okay emotionally now. It's a good thing that everyone in New York has a therapist 😎👍.

"I'm stuck! Wade! Please help me get out of here!" Her voice sounded completely of desperation.

"We're down here! Guys help us!" Paige shouted to where you're camping site had been set up earlier.

"Where are you!" You heard one of them shout back. Carly was still screaming help, her voice cracking everytime.

"Carly I'm coming!" You heard Wade shout, soon enough the four of them had made it over to where you and Paige were crouched.

Wade immediately slid down the slope, getting his foot in the pile of death, and picked up his girl, while whispering words of affirmation to her, who was now getting animal blood all over his nice shirt.

"Oh yeah that smells about right," Nick said looking between Carly and the pile.

For some reason Blake was comforting Paige of all people.

"Hey is that the truck from last night?" Blake suddenly asked as a truck began to pull up next to the pile of roadkill.

"Not unless he fixed his headlight." Wade said, standing suddenly at full attention.

The truck backed up into the pile and a country man got out. He walked to the back of his truck and unhooked the trunk. You watched as he climbed in and began to pick up and throw dead animals into the pile. Without gloves.

"Hey!" Wade called out to the man.

"Don't you see that," Carly said as she gestured to something in the pile that you hadn't noticed before: a human hand, "what is that?"

The man glanced at it before  looking back up at the lot of you. You grimaced as he climbed into the pile of dead animals and walked over to the hand.

"What are you doing man?" Wade asked as the guy began to pick up the hand. He ripped it off and it revealed itself to be a prosthetic.

"Anyone need a hand?" He asked. He did in fact have a country accent. At any other time you would've laughed at something like that, but right now you were just straight up disgusted.

"I'm just foolin, its not real, see?" He knocked on it showing that it had a hollow interior, "I found it on the side of the road a few weeks ago!"

You noticed Carly was going back behind the rest of y'all, she looked like she was going to throw up at any given minute.

"What are you guys doing around here?" The man asked as he went further into the pile to get closer to all of you.

" we were all uh... camping up through the trees," Wade told him, pointing back to where you guys all came from. You heard Paige tell Carly something about water from behind you. Then there was Dalton asking them about his camera.

"Hey by any chance is there a gas station around here," Wade asked as he put his hands into his pockets.

"Well I got some gas in the truck if you..."

"I need a fan belt," Wade said cutting him off.

"A what-" you asked, staring confused. (If you actually know what a fan belt is then pretend you said "what happened to yours?")

"Just busted, y'know."

"Of course, perfect," Carly muttered from behind you. You glanced over your shoulder and saw that Paige was cleaning off Carly's hands with water.

"Bo might have one. Runs a station in Ambrose." The man gestured up the road.

"Where's that?" Wade asked.

"15 miles up the road," he gestured again.

"Let's just get one in Baton Rouge, we'll put it on when we get back," Blake said, sounding fed up with all that was going on. Then again, you were too. The only reason you came was to hang out with Carly since she'd be leaving soon, and now you guys were apparently stuck with a busted fan belt.

"Man there is no way I'm leaving my car. What if that guy from last night comes back and strips it?" Wade asked, irritated at Blake for even suggesting something like that.

"Well, whatever man. You're gonna miss the game then"

"Yeah, we'll that's not why I came," Wade said glancing at Carly sheepishly.

"Alright then, look. I'll run you up to the station, but let's go now. Kickoff is in a couple of hours."

"Dude You're already late. You still gotta find a scalper and snag tickets. Y'all should just go now, I'll stay with my car. Just go and get me a fan belt on the way back. And make sure it's a 15 inch."

"Gotcha," Blake shook hands with Wade in a manly way.

"I'll give you a ride," the guy in the pile said awkwardly.

"You serious?" Wade asked.

"If you like."

"Well- yeah. That's cool."

"Can I come?" You asked, wanting to get out of watching the football game.

"The more the merrier," the man replied, nodding his head.

"I'm coming too," Carly said suddenly.

"Carly no-" Paige whispered.

"Alright let's go, Paige come on," Blake said beginning to leave.

You noticed Nick handing Carly his shirt and immediately turned back to where Blake was.

"Hey, I'll get you guys tickets and leave them at will call," he told you guys without looking back.

"Alright. Good man," Wade responded.

The man down in the pile stood there awkwardly, also staring directly at Carly as she changed shirts. You and Wade stood in between his sight line as Dalton held up her used shirt as a makeshift changing station.

Once she was finished changing Carly pushed down the shirt Dalton was holding up.

You and Carly followed Wade as he made his way down the slope in a manner that would allow for all of you to *not* touch the corpses just sitting there.

All of you slid in, Wade by the window, Carly in between the two of you, and you next to the bad smelling man. Soon enough the truck was going.

It was a very uncomfortable time in your life. You, Wade, and Carly all shoved up against each other to be away from the man, and him looking up and down Carly's body as if she were some sort of appetizer. Yeehaw.

"Can you roll the window down, please?" Carly asked Wade.

"Yeah," he said as he attempted to roll it down. You leaned over and saw that it appeared to be jammed.

"Sorry bout' that," the man said laughing, "trucks seen better days."

"Do you mind rolling your window down then?" Wade asked him.

"Not at all," he said with that bit of country charm in his accent, the window squeaked loudly as he rolled it down.

He glanced over at all of you before saying, "sorry, I kinda get used to the smell."

"Really? I don't think I could ever get used to it," Carly said looking away from him.

"Well you can get used to anything if you're around it long enough. Oh, if you get 'em early in the morning before the sun bakes them up, they're not so bad. If they're fresh though I just take them home, why waste the meat?"

"What do you do if they're still alive, but hit?" You asked him. You couldn't help it, you wanted to know.  Well you probably don't, but there was a removed line from the movie that I feel like using.

"That's why mercy kills exist. It's better to go out quick than leave them laying for for some other animal to pick at their breathing skin. Just put a gun against their head and bam they're out of their misery," he explained to you, cheerful as one can be.

"Are we almost there yet?" Carly asked quickly, most definitely done with this conversation.

"It's just up the road," the man said with a little point. "Yep, Ambrose used to be a pretty nice town before the interstate came in."

You felt Carly poke you and saw you point at the mans. You looked and noticed there was a sheathed knife and immediately looked away.

"You like knives!" He asked, looking at Carly and Wade who were still staring down at it.

    "Not really," Carly mumbled.

"Tools of the trade, wanna see!" He said with cheer in his voice. His hand brushed against your leg as he took the knife out of its protection. It was sharp. And And in your face.

"It's a bowie. A good knife that'll cut through anything," he did a little hand trick and stabbed the knife into the dashboard. This explained why the truck had seen its better days.

The truck suddenly stopped and you were thrown against the dashboard.

"Hey what's going on man, you said there was a town up here," Wade said, distressed.

"Well yeah there is, it's just around that bend. I gotta flip my hubs into four wheel. Mind giving me a hand?" He got out of the truck and stood at the door.

You were about to agree to help, but Carly spoke first, "when's the last time you were here?"

He laughed, but a look of offense crossed over her face, "well, you don't believe me? I forgot this way in's washed out, that's all."

"We'll walk the rest of the way there, then. You've done enough. Thank you," Wade said in a monotone sort of way.

"Now why would you want to do that?" He was smiling, but you could sense a sort of hostile tone to his voice.

"Look, we wanna walk, just let us out now," Carly said with a bit of force added into her voice.

His smile faded slowly as he grabbed the Bowie from the dashboard, "sure."

    Well that was promising.

He shut the door and walked around the back of the truck. When he opened the door, the Bowie was back in its sheath.

"Well, get out then! You try and do something nice for someone..." he stared down blankly at the grass while speaking. You followed Wade and Carly as they got out of the car and onto the grass. From what you could see, it would be easier to walk than drive, but you didn't pitch that one in.

"Look, man, it's not like that, all right? We appreciate it," Wade told him. His voice did not sound appreciative in the slightest.

     "Yeah. I can tell."

You awkwardly waved goodbye to him without saying anything as you made your way to the water, he waved back and kept eye contact with you until you turned your back to him.

Walking on the rocks was a bit difficult, but the water wasn't that wide and you were on the other side in less than 20 seconds.

"Is he still staring?" Carly asked as the three of you walked alongside each other.

Wade glanced over his shoulder before responding with, "yeah, keep walking."

     "Oh, like I'm gonna stop."

"Damn... now I feel like a real asshole," Wade said as you three turned the bend and saw the town standing there in all its glory.

"Well his car did smell like rotting animals, so you had a bit of a point," you said with a shrug.

"Yeah, and that guy was a freak," Carly huffed. You... you wouldn't have gone that far. He did drive you guys up here, and didn't kill you. At least yet. He might. People change y'know.

Once the truck pulled away completely, the three of you felt a lot more comfortable walking into your new surroundings.

(A/N: And here is where they all split more or less. They still follow the movie, but different. Luckily it's summer break so I have a concerning amount of time to work on four fanfics) but
