==========================

"Hey!" I waved excitedly, running towards him. "So... why did you call me here today?"

"Are we going on another date? So soon?" I asked cheekily.

I reached for his hand, holding it in mine.

I was waiting for his reply, but no words came out of his mouth. Confused, I shook his arm.

"Mirio? Mirio! Are you listening to me?" I asked, "Hey! Earth to blondie!"

"..."

"y/n..." He finally says after a minute of silence, eyes darting towards the floor.

"Let's break up."

I was confused. I stared at him, wondering if this was a joke. Well, he couldn't actually be serious. He did promise that we'd be together even if we became pro-heroes!

Brushing my thoughts aside, I laughed nervously, saying, "That's a funny joke! You don't mean it, right?"

He looks at me with a sad look on his face. Something was telling me that he was definitely serious.

I stopped laughing. My heart was beating out of my chest.

"... It's a joke... right?"

He looks at me, before looking away once again.

"I'm being serious, y/n."

"I... I want to focus more on my hero work. I don't think I'd have time for us, for this relationship anymore, so..."

...Oh...

So he chose his duties as a hero... Of course he did...

I knew this day would come, but not this soon! We were supposed to end our graduation on a happy note, not like this. It isn't supposed to end like this.

"But..." I trailed off. "You promised that..."

I stood there, letting everything sink in. I wanted to say something. Anything, just to make him stay a little longer. Yet, nothing could come out of my mouth. He was already walking off, heading back towards the classroom to collect his stuff. But I couldn't let him go. Not yet...

"I love you so," I told him, running towards him and reaching for his hand once again. At this point, I was just desperate, desperate for everything to just be a dream. Desperate for him to take back what he said. Desperate for him to stay.

And yet, he couldn't look me in the eye. Well honestly, how could he look me in the eye, after telling me all that.

I could feel my heart shattering even more.

"Please let me go..." He whispered.

I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to believe it.

I shook my head, looking at him as I silently pleaded.

He gently pulls his hand away from mine.

"I'm sorry, y/n..."

...

Ah, what a nostalgic memory. I don't remember much of it, but I still remember how heartbroken I was. It did take me a long time to get over the break-up, but I learnt to forgive and forget, sort of. Everyone has different priorities in life, anyways.

You know, ever since that day, I thought that it would be the last time I'd ever see him face-to-face. Well, until this happened...

I was waiting for my partner, who had gone off to get some snacks for us to eat. I was roaming around aimlessly, absent-mindedly looking through the windows of the different shops. That's when I bumped into someone.

When I looked at them to apologize, I was surprised by who I saw; Before me stood that familiar face. One that I had never seen since that fateful day. Well, not really, since I still see him on TV from time to time. He looks the same since I last saw him; blonde hair, blue eyes, and that same silly smile plastered on his face.

"Miri- Tōgata? Nice to... see you?"

"y/n!" He exclaims, his smile widening. I didn't know someone's smile could be that big.

"Good timing! I was trying to find a way to contact you, but it seems like I don't have to anymore."

Contact me? for what? I wondered. Does he need help with his hero work?

"Could you wait here for a moment? I need to get something before I say anything else."

Not giving me anytime to answer, he runs off, turning the corner towards who knows where.

I was left standing there, wondering what was going on. I didn't have much time to think of why he would want to look for me, since he was back in five minutes. He was holding... a bouquet of flowers? It wasn't just any flowers though, he was holding a bouquet of my favourite flowers.

I didn't think much of it, so I ignored the very obvious signs he was showing: blushing, lots of fidgeting and sweating despite being in an air-conditioned place. Generally being a nervous mess. Maybe if I paid more attention, then I would've realised what was going to happen.

"y/n," he says, "uh... here!" He places the flowers in my arms.

Again, he doesn't give me a chance to say anything before he continues, "I know it's been years since we've last seen each other like this. I uh... couldn't stop thinking about that day and stuff and you know... I've been thinking about it a lot recently and it's actually a really great timing that you're here!"

"I... I'd love it if you could give me another chance... So...Would you... Wouldyouliketogooutwithme?" He looks away, rubbing his neck nervously. His face was really red too.

I stared at him for a moment.

"Huh?" He said everything so quickly I could barely catch it. I was wondering if I heard him correctly, before it finally hit me.

He's trying to ask me out.

"Oh... I'm sorry, I don't think I can do that..."

"Oh, you must mean that you're busy then!"

"No I meant that-" I tried to tell him, but he kept interrupting me.

"Don't worry, we could always find another day to catch up and-"

I held onto his shoulders, stopping him.

"No, Mirio, you don't understand; I'm married."

I raised my left hand, showing him the ring that sat on my ring finger.

"I've... been married for a few years now. I met my significant other two years after graduating high school, two years after we... you know..."

I sighed, "We really hit it off and well, here we are now," I gestured towards my hand once again.

He stood there, likely taking his time to digest everything that I had just told him.

When he finally understood, he stopped rubbing his neck, and that look appeared on his face. That heartbroken expression, the same one I had on that fateful day. This time though, the roles were reversed.

I was now the one breaking his heart.

"But..." He looks towards my hand, then back at me.

"I love you so..." His voice broke as he said that.

I looked at him, shaking my head.

"I'm sorry, Mirio..."

"Please let me go," I told him, smiling sadly.

I pulled my arm gently away from him. I placed the bouquet back in his hands, lightly patting his arm as I did so.

Running back to my partner who was walking towards me, I looked back at him one last time. He was standing there, clutching the bouquet of flowers tightly. I waved towards him for the last time, before turning back to my partner as we walked off.
