CW: cursing, blood and explosion mentions, death

==========================

"Are you being serious right now?"

"You're going to do this now? Better yet, before I go to work? Can't you see that I have other things to worry about? My gosh you're so irritating."

I frowned, before shouting back, "Not everything is about you, you know? I have things to attend to later on, too. I just thought that we should talk about it now instead of later."

"But right now it seems that you're too mad to even think straight."

He turns towards me, pinching his nose bridge angrily. He opens his mouth, presumably to say something, but he shuts it again.

Turning away from me again, he walks towards the balcony door, flinging it open.

He steps onto the ledge, not before he says, "You know, you always get on my nerves. I'm not sure why i'm still with you."

And with that, he takes off, disappearing from sight.

I stared into the distance, clenching my fist. "Well, fuck you too then," I murmured. His words obviously stung, but i'm trying to not let it get to me. Wanting a distraction, I decided to get ready to go to work.

An hour later, I arrived at the location I was assigned to for my mission. I tried forgetting all the things he had said to me, since I didn't want it to affect my work in any way. Putting my feelings aside, I ran towards my partner.

Patting them on the back, I asked, "Ready to head in?"

They nodded, and so the both of us prepared ourselves.

Today's mission was a little different. We were dispatched here to collect intel from someone in the League of Villains. Why the higher-ups trusted them, i'm not sure. But since i'm not one to question, I accepted this mission.

We started heading towards the agreed meeting spot, which was the top most level of the building. It was said that music would play, ensuring that we wouldn't get lost. We headed up, climbing stairway after stairway, until we finally stood before a door. What seemed like classical music was echoing out from the other side. Composing myself, I pushed open the door.

The room was dark, save for the light coming from our torches. I walked in first, followed by my partner. The both of us then headed towards the source of the sound.

However, as we got closer, we did not see anyone. Instead, there was only a portable radio on the floor. My heart sank.

I'm not sure why, but I started pressing some of the buttons. That's when the music stopped and a recording started to play.

"If you're listening to this, it means you really fell for it! I can't believe it; I thought the so-called 'heroes' were smarter than this. Well, hope you enjoy our explosive gifts!"

I recognise that voice anywhere... Tomura Shigaraki.

Shit. This whole thing was a trap.

Just then, a loud 'boom' was heard from behind us, and we were thrown forward by the force of what i'm assuming was a bomb. My ears were ringing, and everything hurts. I looked back, my face paling in horror. Our only way of leaving the building was blocked.

The both of us were in full panic mode. Neither of us had explosive quirks capable of unblocking the doorway. There weren't any windows either, so we were now trapped in the room.

With no way to escape, I resorted to pressing my emergency back-up button. But once I pressed it, I realised something: I don't think the other pro-heroes would be able to reach us in time; this building was set in a really abandoned district that not many have heard of. Fuck, if only we weren't so gullible.

I tried thinking of anything else that I could do to salvage the situation, but my thoughts were all over the place, so obviously I couldn't do much.

That's when I thought about him. I hesitated, not sure if it would be a good idea. So I stood there, hands hovering over my pocket, when the building shook again. More explosions could be heard, this time coming from the ground floor. I had to hold onto my partner for support, but the both of us ended up falling anyway.

We looked at each other, scared out of our minds. As pessimistic as it sounds, I knew this was it. Our mission was sabotaged, and we're stuck in a building that's doomed to collapse soon.

I stood up and dusted myself off, despite how hard it was to balance myself. Whipping out my phone, I dialled the number that I had memorised by heart.

"Hello?" I said, voice trembling.

"y/n?" The voice said, sounding a little irritated.

"If you're going to continue that stupid fight we had just now, stop. I have no time to deal with more bullshit-"

"Keigo!" I interrupted him, "Please, listen to me. I'm being serious right now."

I was shaking all over. I couldn't even hold my phone with one hand without fear of it dropping, so I leaned against the wall for support.

"Keigo... I'm... I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry for everything," I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down as I willed myself to tell him.

"Fuck, my mission, it wasn't suppose to go wrong and, oh my gosh I can't stop shaking."

I sobbed harder, realising how bad everything was. He was silent, likely confused about what was happening.

It was so hard to form coherent sentences, but I tried my best. He had to know, at least before I met my unavoidable doom.

"The building i'm in... We didn't know but there were bombs and they exploded and there's no way out. I, I don't know what to do so... so..." I trailed off, sinking down onto the floor once again.

He laughs nervously, "You're joking, right?"

I let out a shaky breath, not saying a word.

I couldn't do it. I couldn't get those words out of my mouth, and tell him that I was going to die. A brutal one at that.

Lucky for me, he seemed to have understood what I was trying to say.

Though he still was not saying anything, I could hear him shuffling around in the background. He must have put his phone down, since he was now shouting at someone, saying something that I couldn't hear clearly.

I placed my phone down too, pressing the 'speaker' button so that I could still hear him. I finally let myself relax against the wall, closing my eyes as I pretended everything was alright. I pretended that he was here, right next to me. I pretended that we were resting next to each other, taking a break from our hectic schedule. I pretended... that all of this was just a dream, that we never fought, and that I never came for this mission.

It's funny, because the more I tried to pretend, the more tears I cried.

I sat on the ground, listening. I listened as one by one bombs around the building went off. I listened as my partner cried next to me. I listened to whatever sounds were coming out of my phone. It sounded like... the flapping of wings. Oh, I can probably guess what he's doing right now.

Finally giving up, I sighed.

"Keigo... I love you so much..."

And those were the last things I said to him, before the floor below me finally gave out.

By the time he arrived at the scene, there was nothing except for the remains of the fallen building. He couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that I was long gone. Well, isn't he the hero that's too fast for his own good? So, shouldn't he have been able to save his soulmate in time? The more he stared at the scene before him, the more he blamed himself for everything.

How could he let this happen? He thought, as he took a step towards the whole mess in shock and disbelief. Slowly, he found himself digging through the debris, flipping over as much of the fallen concrete as he could. He continued clinging onto the hope that I was still alive, so he never stopped searching for me, even though his hands were starting to bleed. He didn't stop his search, not when his blood started dripping down his arms and stained his clothes. Not when his whole body was aching.

Not when he found my now shattered phone that had blood splattered all over it.

He only stopped when fellow pro-heroes arrived at the scene hours later. He had to be restrained, as no one was strong enough to hold him back; he kept struggling against them, ignoring their concerned remarks as he tried to continue his futile search.

When he finally grew tired, he sunk down onto the ground.

Letting the reality of the situation hit him, he buried his face into his hands as he cried his heart out.

"I'm sorry... Please, i'm so sorry..."

"y/n, I love you so much, so please come back..."
