I woke up the next moring to sunlight streaming in through the window. I stretched and threw the blanket over me and stood to my feet. My room was in the homestead because both Alby and Newt said it would 'keep me safe'. The room was simple, a medium sized window that overlooked the glade, a bed that big enough to fit two people, a couple crates that had some clothes and necessities for me. I was really glad that the creaters thought to give me extra clothes. If not, I would've worn the guys clothes or worn the same one I arrived in.

I got up and walked down the stairs of the homestead, and out to eat breakfast before I start my next job. Today I would be trying to be a runner. I've been waiting to try this specific job for a while. The fact that they have been trying to get out for a little over a year worries me slighty. Okay, maybe not slighty. It worries me a lot.

I walked toward the kitchen and got in line for breakfast that Frypan had made. From the smells in the air, I could tell he made bacon and pancakes. I inwardly sighed as I smelt the air. Frypan's bacon was the best. I always looked forward to mornings where we would have breakfast. As I stood in line, Newt came up and stood beside me.

"Morning greenie." Newt said looking slightly tired.

"Morning Newt." I replyed while smiling at him.

"You ready to try out being a runner?" Newt asked

"More than ready Newt." I said determined. I needed to get this job! I needed to help find a way out of this place.

"Good. Minho will be taking a break from running and will be testing your endurance and speed." He explained to me.

I just nodded my head and grabbed the plate that Frypan held out to me. I quickly thanked him and walked back to my usual table ignoring the other gladers. I sat down in my usual seat and Newt took a seat in front of me. I started eating my bacon and pancakes and moaned quietly. This bacon is really good.

As I was stuffing my face, Minho took a seat beside me, "Woah there greenie. Foods not goin' anywhere."

I just rolled my eyes at him and continued eating. Minho was really annoying. He kept bugging me cause I'm the only girl. I looked back at Minho only to see him staring at me.

"What?" I asked feeling my face to see if there was anything on it.

"Nothing. I just can't wait to make you so tired that you can't even walk. Maybe that will teach you to stop rolling your eyes at me"

I glared at Minho but ignored him. What ever he throws at me, I would embrace it with open arms.

"Whatever." I mumbled and finished my last piece of bacon.

After we finished breakfast, Minho and I walked Newt to the Maze doors that were about to open. Newt was fully prepared in running shoes, a backpack with food and water (which I helped pack) and his weapons. Newt had been running the past few days that I have been working with each keeper.

As the doors opened, I made sure that Newt would be careful out there.

"Be careful Newt."

"Don't worry about me Vick. I've been a runner for a while." He reassured.

"Yeah, but you never know what could happen." I stated wisely. The maze was unpredictable. I may have not gone out there, but I know that something horrible could happen if he runs into a griever, or worse, doesn't make it back.

"I'll be okay." He said as he pulled me into a hug. He smelt good, like grass, sweat, and man. I continued to hug him back, not wanting to get out of this very comfortable position.

As if to wash reality up on the two of us, Minho coughed lightly.

"In case you lovebirds haven't noticed. The doors opened like a minute ago. Newt you better leave if you want to finish your route." He said with a noticable smirk on his face.

I looked down and blushed before saying good bye to Newt. I watched as he ran through the doors, his head held high, legs running with confidence, and a determined face. It was beautiful to watch him run, as creepy as it sounds, But one day, I hope I could run with the confidence that Newt has.

"C'mon greenie. Time to start running." And just like that Minho ruined the moment once again.

"Okay greenie. Your gonna need to run around the glade two times and I'm going to time how long it takes you. Got it?"

I nodded.

"Good that. Now get ready to run."

I stood there beside Minho preparing myself for the run. We were situated near the middle of the glade, facing the east wall. I would need to run toward the east wall and then run around the glade from there, following the wall. The glade was huge. I knew that from the first time I saw it. I would most likely be tired after this long run, but I needed to do it.

I looked at Minho waiting for the signal to go. He nodded his head as if asking if I was ready. I nodded my head and took a couple deep breaks. He raised to fingers to his lip and let out a loud whistle. I took off running fast, but not at my limit. I didn't want to tire myself before I even made it to the east wall.

I noticed the other gladers had formed a group and were watching me. Some looked sympathetic, others looked like they were enjoying the fact that I was running, while very few were cheering me on. Gally and his group were snickering and pointing at me. I just ignored them and pushed myself to go faster. I had just finished my first lap when I began to feel the burn in my legs. But I continued running. I only had one more lap to go. I took a couple deep breaths and pushed my legs to faster. Soon enough I was running to where Minho was standing and tapped him on the arm to signal to stop the timer. He stopped it and looked at me impressed.

"Your fast." He stated smiling.

"Thanks." I said while taking a sip of a near by water bottle.

"You got a good time. Most greenies take between 6 to 12 minutes to run the entire glade twice. Only took you about 4:30. Great job."

I smiled and felt proud of myself. I mentally patted myself on the back.

"Were not done just yet. Now do 25 sit-ups, 25 push-ups, and 25 crunches." Minho ordered.

I groaned but did as asked. The sit ups hurt after doing 10. I felt the tension in my stomach but still kept going. I moved on to push ups and crunches. By the time I was finished, my arms and legs were slightly shaking.

"Now, were going to go eat lunch, then we will have a small race." Minho said with eyes that showed mischief. I nearly cheered with happiness. Finally food! Running took most of my energy away. My eyes narrowed in on Minho's. He thinks he's going to win? My pride won't let me lose.

"Your on." We shook hands and walked toward the kitchen where food was awaiting us.

After eating, Minho and I stretched. I knew I was going to win. I was quick on my feet but Minho was taller and could take larger strides. A group of boys surrounded us and were making bets on who would win.

"Ready to lose Victoria?" Minho said smirking.

"More like ready to win." I rolled my shoulders and got into position.

"On three, both of you will run around the glade and back. First one back is the winner." Alby stated while crossing his arms.

"One." I breathed in.

"Two." I breathed out.

"Three!" I took off running with Minho in quick pursuit. I slowed my pace slightly and let Minho run a bit ahead. We both followed the Maze walls and our quick breaths and footsteps were the only thing heard. Most boys stopped what they were doing and looked over. Hushed whispered started breaking out. Many boys were pointing at us and betting.

I saw Alby a little bit ahead. From Minho's breathing pattern, he was tiring. While I was running a little under full out, he was running his full speed. Minho was a couple steps ahead of me, and I quickly filled the distance. Minho looked over suprised and I smirked before giving myself a push. I was now ahead of Minho and Alby was close. I ran quickly and stopped in front of Alby. He looked suprised, as did the rest of the gladers.

Minho stopped beside me and leaned over putting his hands on his knees. He seemed shocked that I beat him. While everyone stood there gobsmacked, I did a small victory dance and shot Minho a victorious look. I won! I won against the keeper of runners!

"Wow greenie. Who knew you had it in you to beat our best runner, better yet, the keeper of runners." Alby said while patting me on the back. I smiled before offering my hand to Minho to shake.

"Nice race." He reached for my hand and shook it.

"You too. I think you would make a good runner with some more proper training." Minho said with a goofy smile on his face.

"Thanks!" I smiled brightly.

"C'mon. Let's go meet Newt by the doors and tell him how you beat me in a race." Minho grabbed my arm and linked them. He pulled me to the door where we waited for Newt to arrive.

An: There's another chapter! This one is super long (well for me) so I cut it off there. I'll probaly post another chapter today. What do you think of her being a runner?

The picture to the side/above is of Victoria. Just imagine her with green eyes so she fits the character.
