I made it home. I showered and read a book before heading to bed. When I woke I cooked a little breakfast then spent half of the day bouncing from activity to activity. Around three o'clock in the afternoon I got a call from Cortney while I was watching a movie on the couch in my living room.

"Harv!" Cortney screamed.

"Huh, what's up Cort?" I ask curious at her sudden excitement.

"I just noticed we don't hang out much after school." She pointed out, In shock. "You should totally come over."

"U-Uh, sure. Where do you live?" I ask, not knowing the directions.

"One sec." She replied. A moment passed and my phone beeped, receiving the location on my GPS app. I checked it real quick.

"You live pretty close to me!" I notify in surprise. That would explain why she continues down the street after dropping me off.

"Mhm!" She agrees.

As I made my way down the street my nerves tensed with every coming step. I looked at my GPS, I was very close to the house. As I walked I noticed a large bright house peeking from around the corner. After getting close enough, the house came into full view. Gosh, she must be rich! On my way to the door I saw a man cleaning a sleek white car in the driveway. He had light brown hair and was dressed very casual. He noticed me staring.

"Excuse me... can I help you with something?" He asked. He looks extremely intimidating.

"I... Uh. Would this happen to be the Paydel home?" I nervously ask.

"Yeah?" The man said, waiting for me to answer his question.

"Oh, uh right, I'm here to see Cortney?" I say more as a question, wondering if she was home. He went quiet for a moment.

"I didn't think you were her type." The guy said, eying me up and down. His stare made me tremble a little.

"You're cute and all but you don't look man enough to date my daughter." He informed.

"Sir, I... I'm not dating your daughter." I clarify. He looked relieved and his hostile look dropped a bit.

"Why are you here then?" He questioned, folding his arms with a rag in hand..

"Cortney invited me over." I say. I began playing with my fingers, nervous.

"Alright, you can head in. If I find out you're lying though, you're dead." He says, motioning a finger across his throat.

"Sir, I can assure you, I'm not dating your daughter, nor do I plan to." I explain. His eyes narrowed.

"Are you saying she's not pretty enough?" He said, upset.

"N-No, sir I... T-That's not what I meant. She has the beauty of a goddess." I assure.

"Then why don't you want to date her?" He shot another question. Boy, this guy is a real hassle.

"W-well I... I'm not... Girls aren't..." I struggle, looking down twirling the tip of my toes into the gravel.

"Oooh, I get it!" He says placing his fist to his open palm in realization.

"Just don't let my wife know that. She isn't very big on gays." He warns. I was relieved he didn't make me say it, but now I have something bigger to worry about, their mom. I head through the front door and look around the house. I didn't see anyone, so I waited awhile to see if Cortney would come to greet me, but what I assumed to be her mom spotted me instead.

"Oh you must be one of Luke's friends." She said approaching me.

"Ah, yeah, but I'm here to see Cortney actually." I inform.

"Oh, right. Follow me, I'll take you to her room." She says dully. We made our way up the steps of the large house. We walked down the hall and stopped at a door. She knocked, but didn't receive a response.

"Hold on, I'll try asking Luke where she is." She said walking over to the next door over. She knocked at it and heard Luke's voices.

"Come in, Its unlocked." He said. The woman open the door. I walked in and saw Cortney laying on the floor drawing, while Luke sat in a chair placed in the corner of his room. They were listening to music, chatting.

"Oh, Harvey!" Cortney shouted, getting up from the floor."I didn't know you were coming over so soon!"

"Y-Yeah, I had nothing better to do so I came over. I hope that's okay." I ask shyly.

"Sure is!" She beamed.

"My, you two seem to be getting along well." Their mother said, speaking to her and Luke.

"Yeah, its all cause of this guy!" Luke said, pulling me into his lap. He brushed his hands through my hair, messing it up. It took me by surprise, I hadn't known Luke was this friendly. Their mom seemed to be happy to see them together. Were they not on good terms before i met them?

"We didn't do much together, we had different groups of friends, but when he became both our friends we began hanging out more I guess." Luke shrugged, still holding me.

"Oh my, you would be perfect for my daughter." She teased.

"Too bad mom, he's gay." Cortney rolled her eyes. Crap, their father said not to let her know. My heart raced as my eyes landed on her. The calm, natural, dull look was now shock, disgust, and confusion. The room went silent.

"So are you two dating." She scowled at Luke.

"No mom, I'm straight." Luke rolled his eyes.

"Though, I'm still comfortable doing this." Luke said, wrapping his arms around my waist, nuzzling my neck. I turn red and let out a weak whimper. He really knew how to tease. Their mother looked disgusted.

"Well I think its time you go!" Cortney said, pushing her mother from the room. She slammed the door in her face. I shot Cortney a strange look.

"Sorry, I'd forgotten how homophobic she can be." Cortney said in frustration.

"Your father told me not to let her find out." I notify.

"No wonder you made it inside in one piece." Says in realization.

"Our parents are so weird. My father hates any guy who comes here, unless he's gay, and my mom hates any gays, but loves when guys come over." She explains.

"They're such dramatic dorks." Luke says.

"The last time my mom took me to a meeting at work, she found out her new assistant was gay. She flipped, almost literally too." Cortney laughed.

We hung out in Luke's room for hours. Me and Cortney sat on the rug drawing. She was actually very good. Usually when I saw someone doodling in class it wouldn't look all that impressive, but Cortney is above average. Luke sat in his chair, listening to music from his phone through external speakers. He has good taste. He played some amazing songs from bands I'd never heard of.

Awhile later Cortney had finished drawing and pulled out her phone. I took the note book and placed it at my lap. I decided I'd draw both Luke and Cortney. I glanced up at them every once in awhile. They noticed me looking at them and every time I'd remove my eyes from the paper they'd look at me with smiles at their faces. I smiled at them smiling. This was a lot of fun.

"Are you drawing us?" Cortney questioned, amused. I gave an unintentional goofy smile and nodded.

"Let me see it." She demanded. I shook my head.

"Its almost done." I announce.

"Aw fine." She said, defeated. I spent a couple more minutes on the picture before it was finished.

A familiar song came from the speakers. It was a song I had looked for forever but could never find. I'd have to ask Luke what it was later.

(Play the song)

"Its done!" I beam at Luke and Cortney. They looked excited, and prepared themselves for the picture. I slowly turned it around, and held it in place when I had it facing them.

"Thank you guys for being my friends. My first friends especially." I say, growing a little smile on my face. They sat, frozen in their seats, in what I assumed was shock. I honestly didn't think the picture was all that good. Cortney held her mouth with both of her hands. Her and Luke looked at one another. She stood from the dresser and made her way to my side. She sat beside me and enveloped me in a big hug.

"Its beautiful." She said, still hugging me. The picture was Luke and Cortney sitting together in a field near a patch of flowers.

Soon after Cortney had wrapped her arms around me Luke came over and hugged me too. I sat on the carpet, in their embrace. I was suddenly feeling emotional.

"Thank you for being our friend." Cortney replied. I felt strings tugging at my heart.

"Yeah dude, you're awesome. You helped me, the person who put you through you so much. You comforted me during a dark time." Luke added. "I feel terrible for the way I've treated you these past two years."

The well filled and tears began flowing from my eyes. I was tremendously happy, I had never felt truly wanted up until this point. They noticed my sobs.

"S-Sorry, was it something I said?" Luke looked worried.

"N-No... I'm just happy." I respond, wiping the draining tears from my face. Cortney and Luke grew smiles of relief and hugged me once again. Luke stood from the carpet.

"Yo, Harvey, wanna play catch?" Luke suggested. Odd timing, but I nod.

"I'm joining in." Cortney said matter-of-factly. Luke gave her an odd look.

"You never play sports." He told her.

"Doesn't mean I can't start." She retorted.
