I leaned against the counter watching Nandy pace the bathroom holding a pregnancy test and occasionally take a deep breath. Her eyes remained glued to the stick while mine remained glued to the two other tests that sat on the counter pending results.

"Why don't you just adopt? The world is overpopulated enough, maybe God wanted you to adopt" I said looking at the time on my watch. Nandy threw the pregnancy test in the garbage before walking over to the sink looking at the rest that were officially negative.

"With my luck I'll probably not be able to adopt. That'll just get my hopes up too" She sniffled and I stared at her for awhile before looking at the pregnancy tests again.

"It's something. Doing this is so unhealthy for your mental state, you told me yourself that you only wanted kids because you saw other people with kids and you weren't sure it was something you really wanted and that's a red flag right there" I remind and she slowly nodded her head.

"I just thought this was it. I wanted to at least try one last time before accepting that maybe it wasn't in the cards for me" Nandy explained and I took a hold of her hand pulling her out of the bathroom and she eventually calmed down.

"Wait right there" I demand and she took a seat on our bed. I walked into the walk in closet and picked up two Chanel shopping bags before carrying them out of the closet.

When Nandy saw them her eyes lit up and I sat them on the bed allowing her to open them up revealing two hand bags. I couldn't decide which she'd like more so I got them both, judging by her expression she liked them both.

"Thank you for being patient with me and I really love the bags" She said as she walked over and squeezed me tight before I felt her lips on my neck.

The door opened a crack and the puppy I'd gotten from Kaine's neighbor entered. Nandy had named him Princeton making him our second dog besides the dog we'd already had named Monty.

"Do you think you're ready to adopt and have a child?" She questioned and I looked away before folding my arms.

"I'll think about it some more just please calm down with the sex. I'm sore" I mumbled letting go of her and she nodded her head agreeing.

I walked out of the bedroom and headed for the kitchen where I poured myself a cup of coffee and cut the TV on. I pulled my vibrating phone out of my pocket and looked at my father's number before contemplating on ignoring it.

"If this is about the three fucking idiots then I don't want to talk about it. Now I have to do damage control and I really don't like talking to people. Also, why didn't you just walk across the street to talk to me instead of being lazy and calling?" I complained.

"Moriah I know. They'll be dealt with accordingly but you have to smooth things over, you and Zaire both have to because you know that not everyone likes Calvin and I don't feel like getting out of bed, I'm still waiting on breakfast" He said simply.

"That's not a secret. Look I can make a few moves but they have to do something, I'm not going to keep doing this shit, just because they're family doesn't mean they can keep doing stupid shit and everyone should keep running to their aid" I said before hanging up.

I shoved my phone back into my pants before sipping on my coffee. I heard someone ring my doorbell but I ignored it as Nandy came into the kitchen still smiling.

"Okay, don't freak out when I tell you this but I just got a good idea. I want to get a job!" She exclaimed and I stared at her for awhile before taking another sip.

"Okay? So get a job" I responded as I walked away to get the door. I frowned when I realized who it was an opened the door anyway being greeted by Kaine's younger brother who was smiling brightly and had a backpack on his shoulders signaling he was off to school and stopped by.

"Is it ready?" He questioned and I stared at him for awhile causing him to fidget. Slowly I stepped to the side allowing him to come in and he followed me to the back where my office was.

"How did you get over here so early? Don't you have school?" I questioned pointing to the name tag he was wearing and he smiled.

"Kaine is dropping off Knox at your parents place and he's also taking me to school. I asked if I could come over and check on our comic" Aaron explained and I sighed.

"It's your comic, I'm just drawing the characters for you" I tried to explain but it was obvious it went in one ear and out the other. I noticed he'd cut his hair into a similar haircut as Knox and looked more refreshed and happy as he shoved his hands into his pockets.

I picked up a sketchbook and opened it up showing him what I had so far. His eyes widened and he tried to hug me but I mushed his face away.

"If this is going to work I'm going to need you to not touch me, ever. I don't like hugs and I don't like people always breathing down my neck or showing up at my house" I explained and Aaron slowly nodded.

"So we can't be friends? Your friends with my brother so I thought we'd be at least friends by default" Aaron questioned as I let him take the book with him.

"We aren't friends, you're just someone I know and something tells me you're even weirder than your brother" I said with a sigh as I shook my head.

"People say I'm weirder" He smiled and I shook my head and motioned for him to get out. I flicked the lights off in my office and shut the door.

"Moriah can you ask your mom if she'll let me borrow her cookbook? I wanna get her recipe for something" Nandy called from the kitchen. As I pulled opened the front door I grabbed a jacket and walked down the steps of my home.

Aaron was fixing his collard shirt that he'd tucked into the khaki pants he was wearing that showed off his belt. The boy looked like a walking back to school poster minus the really expensive shoes he wore on his feet.

"If you're wondering why I'm dressed like this then it's because I feel like it" Aaron said as he tightened the backpack on his shoulders and I nodded.

"That's typically why most people wear what they want to wear, because they feel like it" I said and he nodded his head. I walked over to Kaine's car as he was brushing his sons head and straightening out his clothes.

"Ma, Nandy wants your cookbook. She's trying to get back into baking I think" I said trying to sound supportive and my mom smiled.

"That's good. I'll drop it off later or she can come over and get it whenever" My mom said taking a hold of Knox's hand.

"Ajani has a doctors appointment so she should be by to get them around noon" Kaine said getting Kieran's car seat and my mom smiled creepily.

"Tell her to take her time and go do something fun. I really don't mind watching them"  She said as my father came out of the house still in his bathrobe.

"I went into the kitchen, there's no breakfast and no coffee ready. What's going on?" My father questioned and I chuckled and looked down.

"If you want breakfast so bad why don't you make it yourself. I was busy this morning coming up with lesson plans for Knox" She explained and my father looked around.

"What the fuck does that have to do with you not making me breakfast?" He questioned and she narrowed her eyes at him.

"Jade get out of my face" She said simply and he took Kieran's carseat and diaper bag before walking back into the house mumbling things under his breath.

"Bye papá and Ron and Momo" Knox waved as he followed my mother into the house. I turned my attention to Kaine who closed his jacket up some.

"Wanna tag along? I'm driving Aaron to school and then I'm gonna go get some guns and explosives with Johan" Kaine explained with a shrug.

I glanced back towards my house where Nandy was before agreeing. Kaine made his brother get into the backseat as we all climbed into the car.

I sent Nandy a text message telling her I was leaving and to not forget to pick up Nate from the airport. He'd tried living with his mother but he said he couldn't do it any longer and so she was sending him back to me.

"Why is Ajani going to the doctor? Is she sick?" I questioned as Kaine pulled off and he shook his head no.

"Just an exam that's all, she said it was nothing serious" Kaine explained and I nodded and put my seatbelt on as he turned up the radio.

It was a thirty minute drive to Aaron's school and when Kaine's car pulled up a small group of four boys stood from their spots on the steps and adjusted their bags as they waited.

"I have football tryouts after school don't forget to pick me up please" Aaron said climbing out of the car. Kaine popped the trunk for him and he grabbed out a couple of large posters before shutting the trunk.

"When did you make friends?!" Kaine yelled in shock when Aaron approached the group of boys and he turned around and shrugged.

"It just kinda happened. I told you I'm likable" Aaron smiled. Kaine watched his brother join the group of boys and they all walked up the steps becoming engrossed in a conversation while a group of girls watched on in awe.

"I didn't take Aaron as someone who'd be into sports" I said as Kaine pulled off and he agreed with me.

"He's taken an interest in sports lately, he's also running for student government incase he decides to get into politics later on. He also has straight A's and apparently has more than just Saint and those two girls as friends. I didn't see this happening to be honest" Kaine responded.

"That's good. Does he want to go to college?" I questioned and Kaine nodded his head before smiling.

"Yeah, he wants to go to a college out of state. He's only a sophomore though so he might change his mind" Kaine said as he focused on the road seeming to grow stuck in his own thoughts.

New York wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, maybe it's because I wasn't living in the city but I just felt relaxed. People weren't always coming over to my place to bother me and if they did want to come bother me they'd have to take a plane ride and by then I'd already have a heads up and be able to leave before they arrived.

"What the fuck is Johan doing? He's always doing some shit" Kaine complained as he pulled up onto a dock after almost an hour of driving.

My gaze shifted to my nephew who was holding a man over the dock and a few people laid dead. Angelo squatted down and picked things from off of the dead bodies as Kaine and I exited out of his car.

"Put him down and explain this" I said in a bored tone as I avoided the blood splatter. There was too many dead bodies and the fact that they'd done this in broad daylight agitated me.

"It was a set up. They pulled out guns on me first which is why I made Angelo hide just in case some shit popped off. Now can I drop the bwoy?" Johan questioned.

"No you can't drop him. He's suppose to be giving us weapons, he's a dickhead but he's the only person with connections I know" Kaine complained.

"You think I'm going to sell you anything after these animals just killed my men and tried to throw me off of a dock? Get the hell out of here!" The man yelled snatching away from Johan's grip.

"He kinda looks you" I said glancing at Kaine and he made a face and shook his head in doubt before moving towards the black parked Audi.

"Pop the trunk Derek" Kaine requested again and the man continued to stare straight ahead ignoring him.

"You heard him, pop the trunk Derek" Angelo mocked as he flicked a lighter back and forth. My eyes scanned around the area before they rested on an axe.

"Go ahead and laugh now but if you want any type of weapons you're going to need me. Once word gets out about this I'll have the black market shut you out and then that's it for you" the man snapped.

"How tall are you?" I questioned walking over to the axe and the man seemed caught off guard as he looked around making sure I was talking to him.

"I'm 5'8 what does that have to do with anything? This is about business enough of the personal questions!" He snapped and I shared a look with Johan who took a discreet step away from the man.

"You'll do, I guess" I side as I swung the axe hitting Derek in the face with it. He stumbled to the ground and I preceded to hit him in the face continuously until he was unrecognizable while everyone except Johan watched on in shock.

"With the bwoys face caved in like that he kinda does look like Kaine" Johan explained and Angelo tilted his head.

"What does this hav- Oh!" He said in realization. Everyone glanced at Kaine who stood back and looked at the body.

"How the fuck are we suppose to get weapons now? Jenny bought bombs last week and we don't know what for. She has bombs we're going to need bombs too I could've finessed him" Kaine explained sounding irritated.

Angelo reached into the corpses pocket and pulled out the car keys before popping the trunk to the Audi. The three of them approached as I continued to look down at Kaine's look alike wondering if it was believable.

"You said you were worried about going to prison. He's your way out" I explained gesturing towards the body and Kaine squatted down and looked closely.

"I don't know about this shit, I don't always plan on being in the drug game. I wanna start a real life and I won't be able to do that if I'm legally dead" He explained.

"It's unrealistic to think that once you cut ties to the game you'll be alright. You know how many people still try and run up on my father? Why do you think he and my mother move around so much? People want to make a name for themselves at any means, make a choice" I said as he stood up.

"Being legally dead ain't that bad and that nigga laying there dead was going to retaliate on us anyway, you might as well get something out of it" Angelo explained.

"Well I don't think the bwoy should do it. Let's just take the weapons like we planned and approach this situation again. Kaine isn't going to prison" Johan explained and I raised an eyebrow.

"But when are we ever going to find someone who matches his description as much as this man does?" Angelo questioned.

"I wanna be able to take my kids to school and not have them lie about me being alive. What if when Knox is in kindergarten and he slips up and says something? There's too much that goes into this shit, you don't have kids or a steady girlfriend at that so this doesn't affect you as much and by the time O was bold enough to fake his death Calvin was already grown and it didn't matter. I can't do it" Kaine explained and I looked down at the body.

"Like I said the bwoy is dead now and we were going to kill him either way. Kaine doesn't need to fake his death, he's good and if he ever got into legal trouble we'd all help him out of it. He's good if anything the police are more interested in Harlem because he's the boss in their eyes, correct?" Johan questioned shoving hand guns into a duffle bag.

"Wow it almost seems as if you care about the nigga now" Angelo accused and Johan titled his head some before he shrugged.

"The batty bwoy isn't that bad, he's my brother in law and the gyal insist on staying married to him. He's also the father of my nephews and I love them" Johan explained and Kaine furrowed his eyebrows before he suggested we dropped the conversation.

"I hit him in the face with an axe" I said looking down at the blood that covered the weapon I was holding and they all nodded.

"I'll get rid of it for you" Angelo exclaimed excitedly as he took it from me before I could respond. He walked away with a pep in his step and I shook it off before joining Kaine and Johan as I looked over some of the illegal weapons in the trunk.

"He said he'd bring C-4 with him but there is none. That's what I was looking forward to the most" Johan complained.

"That's what this is about? You should've been more specific, I have a lot of C-4" I explained bluntly and Johan mugged me.

"Well let's hurry up and get it. I need to take care of some stuff and I think Ajani is going to give me my machete back so shit is about to get serious" he explained with a head nod. I chuckled before pausing as I sniffed the air.

"What the fuck is that smell?" Kaine questioned tossing the last bag into the trunk of Johan's car. My eyes followed the smell and I realized Angelo was tossing more gasoline into the fire making the flame bigger.

"Let's go before he blows something up and kills us all" I stated getting into the passenger seat watching Angelo cover the bodies in gasoline before dropping another match.

Once he finished he jogged over to Johan's car hopping inside and Kaine pulled off of the empty dock taking a back way while they trailed us.

After stealing illegal firearms I asked to be dropped off back at my place not wanting to miss out on the hour of quiet time I had where Nandy didn't bother me. Instead of going home I went over to my parents place and my father sat in the living room watching the news while Kieran slept on his chest.

I looked around the kitchen before sitting down my sketchbook and the other items I'd need for the current project I was working on. Right as I took a seat I heard the chair next to me screech and I paused before slowing glancing to the side of me at Knox who was pulling himself up onto the chair.

He had a box of crayons and a piece of printing paper. He set his stuff up by my stuff and I frowned and eyed him for awhile watching as he got situated. He had to stand in the chair because he was so short so I grabbed his booster seat and helped him set down.

"Are you copying me?" I questioned propping my face up with my first as I stared at him. He dumped all of his crayons out onto the table and and smiled at me showing his teeth and dimples before he nodded.

"I be quiet" he said looking at me innocently as he blinked. We stared at each other for awhile and I waited for him to look away but when he didn't I finally agreed and returned back to my work picking up a pencil.

Knox followed my lead picking up a orange crayon and he waited for me to do something else. He watched me intently as his tongue poked the side of his mouth and I sighed and sat my pencil down before picking up a crayon.

"You know how to make a turkey?" I questioned and he seemed confused. I made him spread his hand on his paper before taking the red crayon I'd picked up and traced his hand on the paper while he smiled.

"Now color it" I said lifting his hand up to show him the outcome. He scribbled into the hand with orange crayon while I went back to drawing another one of Aaron's characters for his comic book.

The peace and quiet didn't last long however because my mother came looking for Knox a few moments later. She was holding a book she wanted to read to him but he didn't look up from his scribbling.

"Knox, don't you want to read this book? This was your moms favorite book when she was little" my mother explained and Knox looked up.

"Um no" he said scratching his nose with his free hand and my mom frowned and sat the book down before looking at me.

"We're trying to have quiet time" I said in a dull tone and she narrowed her eyes at me as Knox held his pointer finger to his mouth telling her to shush before she could speak.

"Send him to me when he's done" she said and I nodded watching my mother walk away. I wondered how long it'd take before Knox started hiding from her, she could be overbearing sometimes and when I was little I put up with it for awhile
